Tension is mounting in a village in Macuata Province after more men were taken in for questioning for the alleged gang rape of a 12-year-old last week.
Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed that a team of police officers in Labasa had been mobilised and sent to Lutukina Village in Dreketi to hunt five other men who are believed to be in hiding.
Six others are already in custody at the Labasa Police Station.
At this point in time we are trying to look for five other men who we believe also took part in the gang rape, Sokomuri said.
Tension is also high in the village and we have dispatched police officers to calm them down.
Sokomuri also said that the girl is still being questioned at the Labasa Police Station.
We expect the men to appear in court sometimes next week, hopefully Monday, because a lot of evidence is still forthcoming so this may take a while.
The victim, from Bua, went to spend Christmas at a relatives house in Dreketi when the alleged incident took place.
It is believed all the suspects were under the influence of liquor when the incident took place.
Well remember Janet “Butch” Reno brought down such crime rates with the mere term ......”unfounded” !
Dude. You hijacked your own thread.
The article has to do with Fiji, for heaven’s sake! I doubt if there are too many lesbians running around the islands...
here are some comments from the locals:

Comment: If being drunk when committing an offence, then why can they not be charged for drunk and disorderly as well. Lock them up and throw the keys away. Castration might be the answer for such heinous acts.

Comment: What a shameful act. Liquor should never be an excuse for this type of crime. They all need to be locked up in prison for good.

Comment: Some people just can’t help themselves so in order to assist them curb their violent behaviour and in this case - cut off what controls their brains which is by the way hangs in between their legs. Will certainly make others think twice when they want to participate in such behaviour which is not even seen in the animal kingdom.

Comment: For such heinous crimes they need a very very long time in jail until they are unable to have sex.

Comment: Crimes such as this happens all over the world. It is time for us to take a collective approach to address the issue and also remind our traditional chiefs, the vanua and our religious leaders to be active in policing the vanua and its members. Relevant government agencies should coordinate a “reach out” to re-educate members of our society. Our Fijian Affairs ministry or its multi ethnic arms should take note and include this issue to be co-ordinated through current administration down to the turaga ni koro level. Maybe this issue should also be addressed in the next Bose Vanua.
GMTA...that was the first story that came to my mind when I read the headline too.
Do they have any ROPers in Fiji?
Not all rapers are ropers.
That is why I posted it not because I care so much about what is going on with this case though I think it is disgusting as any human being with any sense of decency should. I could if I looked post dozens of rape stories. I don’t see the rape of a lesbian any more or less important but it is clear the press doesn’t see the situation the same way. They seek with every story to make a false impression that some how there is a crisis involving lesbians being raped. Also it is amazing how important rapes are when the allegations are against the military. I find the whole politicization of rape ugly.
Heck, in the US, having consensual sex with a woman who’s had a few drinks, let alone drunk, is considered rape in many jurisdictions!
Mark
Heck, in the US, having consensual sex with a woman and she changers her mind half way in the event it’s rape mans word no good yeah law is fair BS.
The article does not state this poor 12 year old girl is a lesbian.
She may be inclined to be one now. Most lesbians are that way due to sexual and physical abuse by *s*holes.

Nice to see that you have your priorities straight.
Gotta say though, I caught a lot of flack here when the lesbo rape story was first posted for pointing this fact out.
