After years of silence, conservatives are coming out of the closet.
“Hollywood Conservatives Encouraged to Come Out of the Closet”
Correction: Queers come out of the closet!
Conservative come out of the garage, the kitchen, the living room, the den, etc.....
But this guy writes for the Huffpo. Sounds like a set up to me.
Same tired tiny list.
Please. There's a conservative renaissance in Hollywood, and I just burped up an aria.
‘Some have suggested the purported anti-conservative tilt in Hollywood is overstated if it exists at all. Perez Hilton, the self-proclaimed “Queen of All Media” and author of his eponymous gossip site, said, “I think Hollywood is very tolerant. They may mock you for your political beliefs, but at least they’ll do it to your face!”It won’t ever interfere with people getting a job. Kelsey Grammer still works!”’
Just don’t support traditional marriage.
Yah.. Both of them. :D
On the contrary I’ve decided to stop discussing politics in the workplace at all. It’s a waste of time anyway. We now live in a socialist banana republic - what’s there to talk about?
The liberals are going to run everything even further into the ground than it already is. But the majority of voters seem not to care.
What I hate are idiots that get rich off of their hypocracy...Martin Sheen for example...hates war, unless he’s doing another war movie.
Ha! That’ll be the day.
Actors know there is nothing as rabid and militant as a hollywood know-it-all trying to impress his “friends.”
And Kelsey Grammar works because he makes them lots of $$$s. The whores in hollywood worship money more than anything.
If the ‘guy’ you are referring to is the author, SE Cupp, then you’re actually talking about a smoking hot young woman who is very conservative even though she writes at the NYT and lives in Manhattan.
She is an avid hunter with a very sharp wit and published her first book this year. She is regularly on Red Eye (at 3am EST on FNC) because of popular demand for he views and her looks.
No, Andrew Bretbart is a guy.
In the current political environment, if I were a Hollywood Conservative I’d bury myself deeper, not come out.
Give them no quarter. At all. Do not buy/frequent/watch the media of any leftist.
Read the classics and the founding documents of the US....while you still can.
If you are for both, you find yourself welcomed by the "Hollyweird" crowd; if you have a problem with both, you will never be accepted by any of them.
Even the so-called conservatives or RINOs in the "industry" decry social conservatives for their "out-dated morality" and "hate values."
We do not support them and they despise us, Republican or not.
They all prefer Castro, Chavez and all dictators to the pro-family crowd.
Contrary to popular belief...there are many Hollywood conservatives. I was one the 15 years I lived and worked in that town as a PA, Production Manager and then, a Producer. The conservatives kept it on the down low...but we all knew each other. Interestingly, you always knew who the conservatives were on set because they were the ones working their butts off, staying later than they needed to get things done and never bitched about the food or accomodations. Generally, they were happy and always had a ‘can-do’ attitude.... ;)
re: “can do attitude”
I don’t know Hollywood (beyond what I see of its entertainment output) but in other work environments I have certainly noticed that the resident liberals are most likely to be whiny, annoying brats!! It takes a more “conservative” attitude of hard work, accountability, and dedication to actually keep the economy and the country moving.
Liberals just stand around whining and then taxing whatever they can get away with.....
And they come home - after an honest days work! :-)
To do that you’d have to ignore virtually all cinema. Those are classics as well.
You don’t have to pay their salaries by distinguishing the actor/singer from the part/music.
As I said earlier, if you cherrypick in the Arts you have to ignore just about everything. I’m supposed to not watch Spielberg’s or Spike Lee’s films because of their politics? Those things are a big part of American culture.
>>In the current political environment, if I were a Hollywood Conservative Id bury myself deeper, not come out.<<
Honestly, I will never mention that my favorite actor is conservative again.
I want him to work. He has a wife and two kids to support.
I only boycott/ignore those who are truly obnoxious when they talk politics. Like Julia Roberts saying at some event something about finding “Republican” in the dictionary between “reptile” and “repugnant.” Also, the fugly Maggie Gyllenhaal, who was desperate to sound smart and said some crap about how we somehow “deserved” 9/11. Sean Penn — no explanation necessary.
But if a performer is just a Dem and doesn’t trash the country (or even Repubs), then it doesn’t affect my viewing decisions.
You nailed it! On set, there are times when one needs to be VERY flexible and able to handle many things coming at you at once. The Libs all get upset and wonder when the next break is while the conservatives are....Hey let’s work together to solve this problem!....LOL!
Well said — I’m not going to worry about entertainers & performers I may disagree with, however strongly. Live and let live. It IS a free country. But if they publicly trash and spit upon my beliefs and/or my country, if they express contempt and disrespect for me and my family etc., then I will try very hard not to let them have any of my entertainment dollars.
I only wish that Julia Roberts, Sean Penn, the Dixie Sluts and all of their ilk could crash & burn so completely that this simple little lesson could be learned.
Hollywood Reds are brutal.
Anyone who stands up to be positive about his own politics should feel no shame in outing the Communists among them (Penn, Stone, Fonda and others). Even Marlon Brando carried a copy of Mao’s little red book.
Stepin Fetchit got work in Hollywood too. They were still prejudiced.
Spike Lee is a bigot. Support him if you want. Support Lord Haw Haw’s family too if you like. But they are still rotten people selling rotten messages.
From what I gather, yes there are people behind the scenes. But if you want to be a mover and shaker, with cover stories on the press magazines, headline chair on the tonight show, favorable reviews, and awards, you have to play ball with the PC crowd.
“Have you now or have you ever been a conservative?”
“Tell us the names of your conservative friends and associates.”
Andrew Breitbart has sat in for Sean Hannity a few times and does a low-key job of discussing the conservative underground in Hollywood. He talked one night about there being hundreds of well-known stars that are not only Republican, but conservative Republican. He also spent some time talking about the Jewish influence in Hollywood and that if the current crop of Democrats fail to provide nothing short than 100% support for Israel, the Hollywood power-brokers will likely separate themselves.
Most of the Hollywood conservatives I know could give a crap about awards, dinners and the like. They love their jobs and work for others who have similar value systems.
The people who are loud, obnoxious and full of themselves are NOT the ones who make Hollywood run....its those you do not hear about who have the money and power that make it run....and many of them are NOT Americans....and are NOT liberals.... ;)
In a perfect world, there would be some kind of way for conservatives to network, to find (and/or offer) jobs at conservative companies, with conservative bosses, for conservative workers...and even extend that to the acting profession...where being a conservative is a help to your career, not a hindrance.
I got along with the liberal professors where I worked because I worked my fanny off for them and didn’t complain about their lousy work habits. I did what I had to do to get the job done and they liked that. I always signed my e-mails, ‘love,’ and several commented on how nice it was to see that in an academic setting. There ARE ways to show them your conservatism and especially Christian conservatism without shouting it in their faces. And, of course, there was my Bush door...LOL.
I don’t like a lot of artists’ personal beliefs. Regardless of his personality, Lee’s ‘25 Hour’ is one of the best American films of the decade. Poignant and one of the first films to deal with the immediate post 9/11 mood.
Lee has done some great work (25th Hour, Crooklyn, Do The Right Thing) some mediocre work (Malcolm X, Clockers) and some G-D awful work (Girl Six, Miracle at Santa Anna). Count me in also as someone who like "Bamboozled," which showed white liberal showbiz types for the racial hypocrites they truly are.
She is also one of my Facebook buddies! ;-)
We live in an unjust world where the powers that be choose a horse face no talent hack like Julia Roberts over a beautiful and talented woman like Jennifer Connolly. Don’t get me started on the public’s fascination with the likes of Will Smith and (until recently) Tom Cruise.
Speaking of NYC films have you seen ‘The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3’? one of the best NY films ever and a perfect time capsule of the era.
A damn shame the other great NY Subway film from that era ("The Incident," featuring a very young Martin Sheen) is not out on DVD.
Check out "The Celluloid Skyline" by James Sanders, THE definitive book on NYC in the movies.
I could watch Robert Shaw read the phonebook. Nobody of his calibre in Hollywood today.
Pelham 1 2 3 will be remade this year.
...So that they can be feed to the lions never to be seen (on screen) again
Yeah by uber hack Tony Scott. It’s going to stink to high heaven.
Breitbart's also the son-in-law of a guy I adored watching: Orson Bean. And Orson's conservative and married to the Mom from The Wonder Years, Alley Mills.

Bean was blacklisted by the Hollywood movie studios in the 1950s for his outspokenly liberal political views.[2] Ironically, now he is a conservative and has converted to Christianity, though he still considers himself "a dirty, old man."
He is father-in-law to Andrew Breitbart and describes his own children, who are all married, as "little communists."
What a tremendous and inventive sense of humor Bean has! He was always a great guest on talk and panel shows.
That’s the best connection detail I’ve learned all day! I like Breitbart even more now knowing who his in-laws are. If I was him, I’d ask his mother-in-law to call me “Kevin” (little boy from Wonder Years) in her sweet accent.
;)
"Wagon Train" actor Ward Bond was an intensely active member. Director producer Sam Wood (1883-1949) was its first president. Despite his film achievements, Wood's contribution to American cinema have been largely ignored perhaps because of his dedication to conservativism. His testimony before the HUAC in 1947 angered liberals since it helped underline the perception of Communist infiltration in the film industry.
Wood directed such diverse films as the classic Marx Brothers' A Night at the Opera (1935) and the poignant Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939). In the 40s, he turned out hits such as Our Town (1940), Kitty Foyle (1940), For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), The Pride of the Yankees (1942), Command Decision (1948), and the moving drama, Kings Row (1942) starring Ronald Reagan. Wood also was an early assistant to legendary director Cecil B DeMille.
Sam Wood's daughter is actress K. T. Stevens (who was married 24 years to actor Hugh Marlowe---The Day The Earth Stood Still). KT Stevens appears as Mrs O'Brien in the famous I Love Lucy segment in which Lucy pretends she is a chair. Son CHRIS MARLOWE is a sportscaster, and captained the 1984 Olympic Gold Medal Volleyball team.

Chris Marlowe with the Reagans.

The Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals was formed in the early 1940s by some of Hollywood's high-profile conservatives including director Sam Wood, Walt Disney, and Leo McCarey. When the House Un-American Activities Committee investigated the motion picture industry, the "friendly witnesses" came largely from the Alliance. Below is the organization's "Statement of Principles."
STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals.
We believe in, and like, the American way of life: the liberty and freedom which generations before us have fought to create and preserve; the freedom to speak, to think, to live, to worship, to work, and to govern ourselves as individuals, as free men; the right to succeed or fail as free men, according to the measure of our ability and our strength.
Believing in these things, we find ourselves in sharp revolt against a rising tide of communism, fascism, and kindred beliefs, that seek by subversive means to undermine and change this way of life; groups that have forfeited their right to exist in this country of ours, because they seek to achieve their change by means other than the vested procedure of the ballot and to deny the right of the majority opinion of the people to rule.
In our special field of motion pictures, we resent the growing impression that this industry is made of, and dominated by, Communists, radicals, and crackpots. We believe that we represent the vast majority of the people who serve this great medium of expression. But unfortunately it has been an unorganized majority. This has been almost inevitable. The very love of freedom, of the rights of the individual, make this great majority reluctant to organize. But now we must, or we shall meanly lose "the last, best hope on earth."
As Americans, we have no new plan to offer. We want no new plan, we want only to defend against its enemies that which is our priceless heritage; that freedom which has given man, in this country, the fullest life and the richest expression the world has ever known; that system which, in the present emergency, has fathered an effort that, more than any other single factor, will make possible the winning of this war.
As members of the motion-picture industry, we must face and accept an especial responsibility. Motion pictures are inescapably one of the world's greatest forces for influencing public thought and opinion, both at home and abroad. In this fact lies solemn obligation.
We refuse to permit the effort of Communist, Fascist, and other totalitarian-minded groups to pervert this powerful medium into an instrument for the dissemination of un-American ideas and beliefs.
We pledge ourselves to fight, with every means at our organized command, any effort of any group or individual, to divert the loyalty of the screen from the free America that give it birth. And to dedicate our work, in the fullest possible measure, to the presentation of the American scene, its standards and its freedoms, its beliefs and its ideals, as we know them and believe in them.
Leading Hollywood conservative Walt Disney.
