Global Warming: We're supposed to be living in fear of our coastal cities drowning because we refuse to give up oil and the modern machines it powers. Yet today's sea ice levels match those of nearly three decades ago.

According to DailyTech blogger Michael Asher, "Thanks to a rapid rebound in recent months, global sea ice levels now equal those seen 29 years ago, when the year 1979 also drew to a close." This isn't Asher's opinion, but fact based on data from the University of Illinois' Arctic Climate Research Center.

News about growing sea ice isn't exactly what environmentalists who predicted the North Pole would be free of ice in 2008 want to hear. Al Gore and his fellow alarmists have been telling us for years that melting sea ice and glaciers will dramatically and dangerously increase sea levels.

In his 2006 movie "An Inconvenient Truth," he needlessly stoked fear by claiming that global warming could cause sea levels to rise 20 feet "in the near future."

It was one of three dozen misstatements made in the Oscar-winning propaganda film that was promoted as a serious scientific documentary.

We would expect global warmongers to note, as Asher did, that because sea ice freely floats around the oceans, it has no effect on sea level.

(Unless, of course, the sea ice is melting. When that makes the news, the public is barraged with stories about how selfish humans are destroying their own planet as well as the critical habitats of many beloved animals.)

I encourage everyone to read, ‘State of Fear’ by Michael (RIP) Crichton. The best ‘novel’ based on Global Warming BS you’ll ever read.

The appendix and notes are worth the price of admission, alone. He was a terrific researcher and backs up his works of ‘fiction.’ ;)

I agree. The story was an average to better than average techno-thriller. However, the research links in the appendix (yes, I checked them out) were sobering.

Since reading it, anytime a family member or friend mentions GW I politely inform them of a few facts and suggest they check the references in the book.

I am very concerned here. The climate is cooling and I’m sure it must be caused by human (in)activity. I believe it’s imperative that the world’s population ramp up use of carbon fuels to balance out this potentially devastating cooling trend. The oceans are going to shrink!! Our coastal cities are going to be deprived of up-close water views! Oh, the HUMANITY!!!

These kinds of selective information opinion pieces aren’t worth the cyberspace they’re written on.

I have no doubt that the initial claim:

“global sea ice levels now equal those seen 29 years ago, when the year 1979 also drew to a close”

is true.

It’s winter, after all. And a cold one. The ice grows back. Problem is, it’s thin, new ice. A one-season regrowth means nothing, and any honest person who’s been watching this issue with a non-partisan view knows that.

This global warming/climate change issue is a real lemon for us Conservatives. It’s too bloody bad that idiot Gore became so involved in it. That made it a partisan issue, and it should be a scientific issue.

When every single scientific academy and society in the industrialized world AND the American Geophysical Union (and others) are telling me that climate change is real and human emissions are causing it, I’m going to believe it.

F#$k Al Gore and F@#k Jim Inhofe.

They’re a couple of partisan morons.

I know a lover of the free market and hater of socialism as I am should probably reject the science of global warming out of principle, but that’s the problem. It’s SCIENCE.

I’m going to embrace the truth when it’s apparent, and in this case it is quite apparent.

Time to deal with it.

A who’s who of charlatans and PR people.

Right at the top they got Tim Ball. He’s the retired geography professor who has been running around the world calling himself a Climatologist.

When a real Climatologist from the University of Calgary called him out in a letter to the editor, professor Ball sued him and the paper. After the statements of defense were filed detailing all of Ball’s lies and deceit, surprise surprise, Ball dropped his lawsuit.

The man is a long-retired geography professor from a backwoods university who’s gone on the global warming denial speakers circuit for the last 10+ years.

You put your faith in such people?

Ask yourself, are you interested in the truth, or are you just interested in giving fatboy Gore ulcers?

No Bama,

I must issue you my "Global Warning."

Global warming will erase your hard drive. Not the data, but your actual hard drive! Not only that, but it will scramble any disks that are even close to your computer. It will recalibrate your refrigerator's coolness setting so all your ice cream goes melty. It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, screw up the tracking on your television and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you try to play.

It will give your ex-girlfriend your new phone number. It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank. It will drink all your beer and leave its socks out on the coffee table when there's company coming over. It will put a dead kitten in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work.

Global warming will make you fall in love with a penguin. It will give you nightmares about circus midgets. It will pour sugar in your gas tank and shave off both your eyebrows while dating your girlfriend behind your back and billing the dinner and hotel room to your Discover card.

It will seduce your grandmother. It does not matter if she is dead, such is the power of Global warming, it reaches out beyond the grave to sully those things we hold most dear.

It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it. It will kick your dog. It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voice mail in your voice! It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

Global warming will give you Dutch Elm disease. It will leave the toilet seat up. It will make a batch of Meth in your bathtub and then leave bacon cooking on the stove while it goes out to chase gradeschoolers with your new snowblower.

Listen to me. Global warming does not exist.

It cannot do anything to you. But I can. I am sending this message to everyone in the world. Tell your friends, tell your family. If anyone else bothers me with fearmongering concerning Global warming, I will turn hating them into a religion. I will do things to them that would make a horsehead in your bed look like Easter Sunday brunch.

2) This season, the surface salinity is lots lower.

Read the whole article. The ‘delicate’ thin ice surprised the ‘experts’ and got thicker. They attribute this to Cold Air...no kidding. Do a little research. Political hacks and grant writers might believe in global warming, but plenty of scientists don’t. A hundred years from now, people will view this hoax as we view the Salem witch trials.

You must have missed this article week before Christmas by scientist questioning what is happening in scientific community about this issue.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2152182/posts

Canada Free Press also ran excellent series in June 08 about the politics of global warming. I have all these saved and many others.

It is very important that conservatives press this issue because it is the easiest fight to win. It is science and can be demonstrated. It will take us longer to re-educate public regarding all the economic and historic lies promulgated by our schools. Moreover fighting CO2 will cost a lot of money we don’t have. Once we have defeated the Left on this issue we will have taken the wind out of their sails and can work on economy and then history. It will take a little thought to turn Hayek’s Mirage of Social Justice into slogans.

“The temperature changes on mars that are referenced by global warming deniers have nothing to do with greenhouse gas.....Are you familiar with it? If so, please tell us how “global warming” on mars is just like our earth.”

You are very close to the answer in that “global warming on Mars has nothing to do with greenhouse gas”. Perhaps we should then look to causes apart from greenhouse gases. Hmmm. What else could cause Mar’s temperature to increase? (Oh - and Venus as well).

Okay - not to keep you all in suspense for any longer - here’s some excerpts:

*****

Two new developments in climate science are rocking the media driven “consensus” on global warming. National Geographic has an article from February 28, 2007 entitled, “Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says,” and a February 26, 2007 release from the Danish National Space Center announced “A new theory of climate change”, detailing the “remarkable results of research on cosmic rays and climate.” (See also: Climate Skeptics Vindicated as Growing Number of Scientists & Politicians Oppose Alarmism & Panel of Broadcast Meteorologists Reject Man-Made Global Warming Fears- Claim 95% of Weathermen Skeptical )

*****

Paleoclimatologist Labels Climate Fears Oversimplified.

Boston College’s professor of geology and geophysics Amy Frappier explained in February 2007, “The geologic record shows that many millions of years ago, CO2 levels were indeed higher - in some cases many times higher - than today.” Frappier noted that greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere do not consistently continue to have a warming effect on Earth, but gases instead stabilize in the atmosphere and cease having a warming effect. “At some point the heat-trapping capacity of [the gas] and its effect get saturated,” said Frappier, “and you don’t have increased heating.”

*****
CLIMATE SCIENTISTS: IT’S THE SUN
Astrophysicist Nir Shaviv, one of Israel’s top young scientists recanted his belief in manmade emissions driving climate change. “Like many others, I was personally sure that CO2 is the bad culprit in the story of global warming,” Shaviv said in January 2007. But Shaviv now points to growing peer reviewed evidence that the sun has been driving the temperature changes and said, “Solar activity can explain a large part of the 20th-century global warming.”

Could dig it up if you like. Don't know what the trends are the past 6 months, but I could make a semi-educated predictive guess.

What is even more disconcerting about the solar cycle (#24 - still waiting???!!!) is that the predicted minimum was modelled by some (during the middle of Cycle 23) to occur in 2005, and others by 2007 (Buehler? Buehler?).

If one looks at the long-term ice core data, our period of warm climate (between ice-age temperatures) has extended longer than ever in the past. But lets hope that the next (current?) cool period is more like 700 years ago rather than 11,000 years ago.

Obviously the predicted values on the chart need to be repredicted. When they shift the peaks to the right again, the maximum peak activity will be between about 40 and 75. They are not prepared to swallow that truth yet, but swallow it they must. My prediction is we wont get any net warming influx from the next solar maximum. The activity level in general needs to be at 75 spots or higher to see a net warming, especially at our current temperature levels. Nothing but neutral or net cooling for the next 13 to 17 years (unless the Oceans warm from Volcanic Activity). The Russians and Canadians are the ones that are gonna have real life and death problems to deal with.

For example
Record cold wind chills of -50 C recorded overnight in Saskatchewan
Except - Residents of Saskatoon woke up to the coldest temperatures since 1966, with a wind chill of -45 C, leaving the city shrouded in ice fog.

Ice Fog ? What planet is this ?

——Yeah, and there’s no SUV’s on mars.

Ummm... that is correct! There are no SUVs on Mars. With this glimmer of discernment you show potential to break away from your new religion! Keep pondering on this key fact!

I note that you suggest no mechanism that explains how humans are causing warming on those (unpopulated) planets. (Hint - there is a large gaseous ball in our solar system that emits a lot of energy and also operates on cycles...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_cycle)

-—The majority of Americans aren’t so stupid to believe the denial garbage.

If you think that less than 50% shows some kind of political consensus, you again demonstrate why your statistical ignorance knowledge leads you to fall for “global warming” junk science.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Forty-six percent (46%) of American voters believe that Global Warming is caused primarily by human activities. Thirty-five percent (35%) say it is the result of long-term planetary trends. Eight percent (8%) say there is some other cause while 11% are not sure.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/current_events/other_current_events/americans_divided_on_cause_of_global_warming
The majority of the British public is still not convinced that climate change is caused by humans - and many others believe scientists are exaggerating the problem, according to an exclusive poll for The Observer.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/jun/22/climatechange.carbonemissions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Read carefully - 54 percent of Americans do not believe that human activities cause global warming!!! Which is astounding since your religion controls the media. Redouble your efforts grasshopper!!!!

——This global warming idiocy is one of the big reasons we’re losing.

What do you mean “we”, watermelon? Republicans lost because of scandals, out of control spending, the mortgage meltdown, the media anointing “The One” and because McCain did not explain-internalize his conservative positions. He should have hammered Obamma about bankrupting coal.

Did you know that 50 percent of the energy that goes into making your alfalfa lattes is produced from coal?

BTW ——— Polls suggest that two-thirds to three-quarters of the nation wants to drill. McCain was gaining when he had this as an issue.

Your name calling simply shows your desperation and inability to really deal with complex issues.

The worst part is that a little real global warming would be far better than the global cooling that seems poised to occur.

No warming for the last ten years, but CO2 has continued to increase. The 2008 cool down and the massive ice recovery was not projected by the computer models used by the IPCC.

Could you explain this to the deniers?

I completely agree! I would MUCH rather have the warming than this killing cold. Someone here should have (and post) the numbers of how many more people are projected to die from the cold than any (incidental, imo) warming.

And I read where the warming will likely only occur in the areas that need it the most: the extreme north and south latitudes. Boy, a 20 degree “warming” trend would be exceedingly welcome here, and STILL put us below freezing temperatures! We can’t let the dog out for any period of time, even if she did want to play outside or run around, we can’t do any normal winter outside activities, gas mileage is terrible from having to warm up the car for forever, we’ve lost more productive work time to “snow days” than at any time in recent memory. I just want these eco-wackos to come up here with their thin coats and their arrogant assumptions about how the rest of us should live, and then start spouting their AGW nonsense! Grrrrr!

An old, cranky and contrarian geologist friend of mine (passed away in 2000) had done lots of research and was convinced of a rapidly approaching ice age. He was so convinced that he then got interested in developing cold-resistant crops and created hybrids of various crops (wheat mostly as I recall) that some university in Sweden tested and grew.
