FBI to investigate New Year's Day police shooting(update)

The FBI on Monday officially opened a civil-rights investigation into the shooting by police of Adolph Grimes III, according to Sheila Thorne, spokeswoman for the agency's New Orleans division.

Agents from the local office consulted with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney Jim Letten's office in deciding to open the inquiry, Thorne said.

The local bureau had been made aware of the shooting death shortly after the incident. Agents were trying to determine last week whether the incident warrants a federal investigation. The decision was made Monday.

In the video, they claim New Orleans is "one of the ports" where guns come in. As if they come in by boat from Uruguay.

I could count the guns coming in on a boat from some other country on one hand. That's not the problem. Murderous yoots are the problem.

No jobs, no skills, no future. They say they won't work at McDonald's for $5.15. Ain't no f*n jobs. So they kill. This is before Katrina.

The FBI investigating a shooting is like a wolf investigating a death in the hen house. Send in the Waco killers for a disinterested, objective look. Verdict: Police will be cleared of wrongdoing, a “good shoot.”

I have seen the New Orleans Exposed before. The guy who was shot down,Adolph Grimes, doe's not fit the profile. He is a high school graduate, has no police record, and no drugs are implicated in this incident. All the guns involved were legally owned. He went to Houston after Katrina, found a good job, and stayed to build a good life. He was back from his Houston home visiting, waiting in a car for his friend when he was jumped by the cops. He thought he was getting jacked and fired at them. The cops were in unmarked cars,of which they won't describe, and dressed for under cover ops.

They may have flashed a blue light but a few years back there were punks here flashing blue lights so they could jack unsuspecting people.

This is a tragic story all around.

I didn’t know about the Grimes shooting, perhaps this is something entirely different. If he did shoot at the cops, unmarked or not, the outcome is predictable. You can’t blame him if he thought they were criminals. I’d say the same thing about a bunch of recent no-knock warrant entries where unknown armed men break down a door in the night. Cops don’t do that, right?
