New online program can replace trip to a field office

WASHINGTON — The Social Security Administration, envisioning the near-future prospect of 10,000 baby boomers applying for benefits every day, has put together a new online service that will allow people to get their benefits without ever traveling to a Social Security field office.

The agency, in introducing the program Tuesday, said most people will be able to apply for their retirement or disability benefits in 15 minutes or less.

Guess what, folks? I went online to get the estimate of what I can receive from Social Security when I retire. Entered all my information and got, "ERROR. Information submitted cannot be matched to any known account." Swell. I've sent these doofuses a certified letter asking the WTF is going on. I get annual statements from SSA with this info, but it is unavailable online. Perhaps some criminal alien has stolen my account. Wouldn't be surprised.

I applied online in July 08. Even though the final instructions were to take the paper copies in to the local office, I got an email the next morning that my application was approved, giving the amount and dates the check would be deposited.

It’s kind of scary-the government knows enough about you to do all of the paperwork electronically-BC, DD214, etc.

Not sure if your statement is serious, but I applied by phone in November. I asked if they needed a BC, and they answered: "We don't need one for you", as if they might need a BC for some applicants.

Not sure what that meant, but I guessed maybe because they not only have earnings history, etc., but also I had military service they could verify. And, they asked for my mother's maiden name, meaning they could probably verify that my parents were citizens, had paid into system, etc.

I don’t know either as I also had to supply a DD 214. I applied on line in Nov and the instructions said I needed a birth certificate. When they called me to ask a couple of questions they said I no longer needed one.

I guess it varies. I also asked them if they needed a copy of my DD214, and they said they could probably find my service information. I just gave them the dates of active service, and they said that would probably be all they needed. They never asked for a DD214. Apparently, they were able to verify everything I told them with no documents from me.

Not too worry....As soon as the emperor has assumed the mantle of leadership, visits to the SS offices will entail a much stricter examination of eligibility.

The first security improvement will be a sign at the entrance that states: "This Office is no longer required to comply with the 'Don't ask, Don't tell' regulation.

A second sign behind the sign-in desk will state: "All male applicants are required to have one of our hands-free prostate exams."
