An Unnecessary War (Carter Barf Alert)
Washington Post ^ | January 8, 2009 | Jimmy Carter

Posted on 01/08/2009 7:14:38 AM PST by rightwingintelligentsia

I know from personal involvement that the devastating invasion of Gaza by Israel could easily have been avoided.

After visiting Sderot last April and seeing the serious psychological damage caused by the rockets that had fallen in that area, my wife, Rosalynn, and I declared their launching from Gaza to be inexcusable and an act of terrorism. Although casualties were rare (three deaths in seven years), the town was traumatized by the unpredictable explosions. About 3,000 residents had moved to other communities, and the streets, playgrounds and shopping centers were almost empty. Mayor Eli Moyal assembled a group of citizens in his office to meet us and complained that the government of Israel was not stopping the rockets, either through diplomacy or military action.

Knowing that we would soon be seeing Hamas leaders from Gaza and also in Damascus, we promised to assess prospects for a cease-fire. From Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, who was negotiating between the Israelis and Hamas, we learned that there was a fundamental difference between the two sides. Hamas wanted a comprehensive cease-fire in both the West Bank and Gaza, and the Israelis refused to discuss anything other than Gaza.

Israel launched an attack in Gaza to destroy a defensive tunnel being dug by Hamas

What a tool.
Somebody 'splain to me what a "defensive tunnel" is.

And I declared that you are an inexcusable serial appeaser of terrorists, and that your gross incompetence, foolish errors and self-aggrandizing ignorance, both as President and afterwards, are complicit in the terrorists' acts...

Somebody ought to toss a butterfly net over Carter, then explain carefully to him that he is no longer President and that it’s OK, he can leave the negotiating and international stuff in the capable hands of the sitting President. Then tranquilize him and put him in one of those rubber rooms, wearing one of those white shirts with the long, long sleeves that cross in front and fasten inconveniently at the back.

So the Israelis were NOT supposed to respond to repeated insults to their daily lives. These were potentially very deadly insults, but because the Hamas Palestinians were rather poor at actually hitting targets, preferring instead to induce a level of uncertainty and daily threat, there were actually very few casualties.

If a person is firing wildly a you, is it not time to go to the source of the threat and instruct them in the value of good neighborliness? Jimmy Carter would not tolerate this from any person adjacent to his house behaving so badly.

I guess the London Tube was a “defensive tunnel” during the Blitz during WW-II. Perhaps the Palis were digging one of those so they could escape the Israeli shelling...

...or more likely, they were digging it so they could break Israel’s blockade and smuggle in food & weapons, and smuggle out Pali Terrorists and Homicide Bombers.

Jimmah is just an anti-semite.

He could be talking about zoning restrictions on a city counsel, and if he could zone something to knock down a Shul, he’d do it.

It’s basic outcome-oriented thinking -— he has no moral compass. Carter just sophists arguments around until the desired outcome is reached -— hurt the Jews, however.

I wonder how he came to be like that.

After wading through that mess, what I take away, is that Gaza can’t exist with our food and aid shipped in. They can’t support themselves, so what is the point on living there, except to harrass Israel? Can anyone name anything supplied to the world by Gaza?

Jimmy thinks it okay to live in terror of rockets landing in your backyard, as long as only 3 people have been killed in 7 years.

This MORON is — or SHOULD be — an embarrassment to ALL decent Americans!

A partial list of CARTER screw-ups:

Destruction of the Ian Smith government in Rhodesia has given us the wonders of a starving ZIMBABWE and Robert “Zimbabwe is Mine” Mugabe;

The overthrow of the Shah paves the way for the return of radical Islam to Iran and its current status as a sanctuary for terrorists;

The former AMERICAN canal in Panama. Now the CHINESE Canal.

And, my personal favorite.

Back around 1975, Senator Frank Church held hearings on the operation of the CIA and found that — HORRORS — taxpayer money was being paid to foreign citizen snitches who had CRIMINAL RECORDS for vital human, on-the-ground intel on the activities of those who were planning the destruction of this country. Church commented at one session that “Gentlemen do not read other gentlemen’s mail.” Interesting how Church and his fellow Dimocraps viewed men who would destroy America “gentlemen.” Glad that a**hole didn’t serve during the run-up to WWII. (Although he may have handled the “delayed” communication to Pearl Harbor that the Japanese were on the way!)

When he became president, Jimmy Carter fully supported and enforced the Church Amendment. The sorts of people who consort with — and, more importantly, get cozy with — the leaders of terrorist organizations are not normally choir boys. Church moved the legislature to PROHIBIT any US funds going to these potential informants. Since it can take upwards of 20 years for these guys to move close enough to the top to be seriously valuable, we had virtually NO humintel on bin Laden’s plans for 9-11!

While there are still Church-like imbeciles (Reid, Pelosi, et come to mind) at the levers of power here, I THINK the law has been changed.

While the NSA wiretaps and eavesdrops on US citizens HERE, isn’t it comforting to know that in just 15 or 20 years we may be able to thwart a plan hatched THERE for some future 9-11 with information gathered THERE.

Anybody else see a pattern here?

The hope is that when further hostilities are no longer productive, Israel, Hamas and the United States will accept another cease-fire, at which time the rockets will again stop and an adequate level of humanitarian supplies will be permitted to the surviving Palestinians, with the publicized agreement monitored by the international community. The next possible step: a permanent and comprehensive peace.

Several points:

1. Why is it the USA has to accept a cease-fire?

2. Where are these humanitarian supplies coming from?

3. Who in the right mind would be talking about a permanent peace?

This article is pointless.

Oh, it’s much worse than pointless — this column is Jimmy Carter’s latest vehicle to advance his pro-Hamas, terrorist-loving propaganda.

He paints Israel as the villain in the piece and Hamas as merely seeking to ensure “humanitarian” aid to Gazans.

Carter knows exactly what he is trying to do here, and as usual he reveals himself to be the feces-smear he really is.

How do you ensure the continued “humanitarian aid’ by launching about 10,000 missiles at the nation that lets this aid get to you?

“We knew that the 1.5 million inhabitants of Gaza were being starved”

Who had total control of Gaza for the last 3 years? Think Jimmy, think.

They were given all the greenhouses that provided Israel 15% of its agricultural exports and what did they do with them…destroy them! This was a gift from Americans!

Israel bomb arm caches and it was so apparent when this war started that U Tube remove the film clips from their site.

This article is the type of drivel that perpetuates the Palestinian misery. If they were held to account for their actions and if “the Jimmys” of this world forced them to stand on their own merit or be cut off for the billion of welfare payments
Gaza would quickly become a society instead of a terrorist camp.

Why change when the UN (Useless Nations) Organization called UNWRA is at the forefront of excusing all your crimes and attacking the nation that you have victimized for the past decade. And then you have the Jimmys of this world rushing to your defense!

Hey Mr. Carter how much was this article worth. How much money was sent to your foundation / library from your Arab friends?

Well heck, of course the Gaza assault is unnessary—if you aren’t Israeli and your citizens (men, women and children) are not being rocketed on a daily basis.

I wonder what really happened to this man to make him turn against his country the way he has. Anybody have any thoughts?

I’ve hard mutterings about his not having a good experience in the Admiral Rickover Nuclear Navy, but am not aware of anything else. In any case, it appears he became very anti US military. But, in the absense of any other info it does not seem to explain his apparent disdain for anything American.

Jimmy “the dumbest president ever” Carter has had a screw come loose and can't seem to get it back in place.

In reality, Carter wants to try and rehabilitate his disastrous image by speaking up when he thinks it will score him points with the media. He waits to see what way the media wind is blowing, and then tries to inject himself into the conversation.

I think the falling apart Carter built homes is testimony enough to Carter. Remember it was Carter who started the CRA thing in 1977.

I’ve always wondered whether there might be a lot more to the tale of how he left the US Navy than we have been allowed to know. It’s said that he left b/c his father died and he (Jimmy) went home to run the family peanut farm.

But if your whole career to date was focused upon becoming a naval officer and you were just approaching the point of getting some serious responsibilities, why opt out to be a peanut farmer? Not saying people don’t change careers (I’ve done so myself), just that there may have been more there about Carter’s relations with fellow officers and Rickover, not just a sudden impulse to go home and raise peanuts.

I do “know” 2nd-hand from someone who worked for his Carter Center and now utterly despises him that he is a real nasty POS behind the scenes: arrogant, overbearing, cold and callous, egomaniacal.....

Yes! Tons upon tons of organic fruits, vegetables and flowers each year are shipped to Europe and abroad.
