OAKLAND, Calif. Protests over the fatal shooting of an unarmed man by a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer turned violent Wednesday night with windows broken, fires set and train stations closed.
A few hundred protesters took the streets of downtown Oakland to condemn the shooting and call for criminal charges against 27-year-old officer Johannes Mehserle. Oakland police reported at least 15 arrests.

No one who actually lives in northern California considers anything south of Napa, “northern California”.
I'm from Virginia and I know THAT'S not right!
When I lived in Calif., I thought anything north of Santa Barbara was Northern Calif.
Anything north of Oxnard is “Northern California.”
Anything north of the Tehachapi’s is Northern California.
Violence is not the answer. It will only convince more people that Oakland is a place to stay out of.
I’ll see your Oxnard and raise you a Santa Barbara.
Thank you California. Ya’ll been slacking on the riots lately.
It will only convince more people that Oakland is a place to stay out of.
Doesnt most of the counry know that already??
Hale wit just shopping on "Black Friday", when a brutha git kilt or beat down by dee po-leece, EVERY day is Black Friday, Saturday, Sunday...
Long live the secessionist State of Jefferson!
Rural Northern California, and the Sierra foothills, have nothing in common with the rest of California.
There was actually a movement in 1941 to create a 49th state out of portions of N. Calif and S. Oregon. It was gaining momentum, but unfortunately got sidetracked by an incident in Honolulu on Dec. 7th.
How ironic that it was protesters who created the environment that led to the shooting in the first place.
I’d love to see the cops of Northern California begin a protest for the 1000’s of unarmed civilians killed by gangbangers in the area.
I say let them riot. Police and the light of skin just stay out of the way and let them burn, loot, and maim their own and clean up after its over. The citizens that are unarmed and can’t protect themselves have no one to blame but themselves for creating the liberal environment that exists.
“...windows broken, fires set...”
Not a peace or justice movement.
blame the citizens, that's right. The bystanders were just people waiting for their trains at a busy station - the young lady who captured video of the shooting was lilly white, btw.
Grant's family has filed a $25 million wrongful death claim against BART and want prosecutors to file criminal charges against Mehserle.Damn, that filing was quick. I find myself wondering if they stopped off to sign the papers for the claim on their way to the funeral or on the way back home afterwards.
Earlier in the day, about a thousand of Grant's friends and family members attended a funeral for Grant, the father of a 4-year-old girl, at a Hayward church.
So that’s what was going on last night. I walked down to the store and I noticed a lot of police/helicopter activity, so I knew something was up.
It usually turns out to be a lot of ado about nothing, though.
I was thinking, with all the money we owe China, I wonder if they would be willing to take California and call it even. Not like CA isn’t Kommunist anyway.
“about a thousand of Grant’s friends and family members “
geez, that’s a lot of friends and family
“I was thinking, with all the money we owe China, I wonder if they would be willing to take California and call it even.”
I think Mexico has dibs..........
Bull$h!+. Many bystanders were causing a disturbance and creating an environment of chaos.
Get used to riots. I predict this is only the beginning. With The Marxist Onada in the White House the dysfunctional Black community will be emboldened to take the law into its own hands whenever it suits it.
Faux Revs Sharpton and Jackson—and other Black rabble rousers— have a new lease on life and will be leading the charge.
Oh come on. It’s the new math, you know.
It could have been much worse. There was no looting as far as I know, the property damage was limited primarily to cars, newspaper boxes, trash receptacles and store windows. I live near “ground zero” and could see a car go up in flames from my bedroom window. I was expecting to see much worse damage this morning than there actually was.
There are always those who blame the victim. What do we call them?
And another one down, and another one down...
.....Another one bites the Dust!
