Pelosi "urging" Obama to repeal Bush tax cuts

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tells Politico she's "urging" President-Elect Barack Obama to quickly repeal Bush administration tax cuts for the wealthy -- not wait for them to expire in 2010, as Obama has suggested he might do.

"He has the full package of what he wants to do, and we'll respect what he is saying, but put me down as one who is urging repeal," said Pelosi, ducking into her Capitol office suite to watch Obama's dour speech on the economy.

Pelosi supports Obama's push to include $300 billion in middle-class tax relief but she has long been a critic of Bush's cuts for families making over $250,000 a year.

Obama said he would get rid of the cuts during his campaign, but has softened his stance in recently weeks, saying the dire state of the economy could force him to abandon the idea of quickly repealing them, for fear of worsening the contraction.

Earlier on Thursday, the speaker told reporters the Bush cuts were "the biggest contributor to the budget deficit" and said the threshhold for a prospective House repeal would be in the "$250,000 to $300,000 [family income] range."

I’d rather the country do well now, rather than to see the incompetent GOP back in power.

In order for that to happen, Americans need to remove their heads from their ass. That didnt work all that well as the Presidential election proved.

Jack up my taxes and then give me a $500 crumb from it. Thanks, Nancy.

Earlier on Thursday, the speaker told reporters the Bush cuts were "the biggest contributor to the budget deficit" and said the threshhold for a prospective House repeal would be in the "$250,000 to $300,000 [family income] range."

BS. The biggest contributor was eight years of the Congress under both parties spending like drunken sailors. Now it is time for the ship of state to pull into port to replace the old captain with Captain Morgan.

And you thought the sailors were drunk before...

I don’t think there are enough of us working Americans to out vote the ones that want his handouts. And some of those working Americans also want government health care, so we are basically screwed.

Why doesn’t the super-rich Pelosi set an example by signing over half her wealth to the government?

Look for Obama & Co. to drive the economy into the ground in order to nationalize everything.

I don’t see a lot of new clowns coming along. The ballsiest Republicans nowadays happen to be female. One isn’t a politician (Coulter) and the other is in Alaska (Palin).

Yeah, thats all fair and everything. Lets not give anything back to the people that pay the most. Lets give it all to the people who pay nothing!

Then, when that money goes to buy crack instead of investing in companies and hiring new people, we'll know exactly what happenned!

Yep, great idea Nancy. Now stfu you over-botoxed imbecile.

Because she wants all you money.....not just some of it. Keep the people broke and you have them under control. People need to demand to see where every penny of their tax dollars is being spent. Especially in the states.

I think we've reached the full amount of people fed up enough to vote out the clymers in favor of conservatives. Anyone who gets fed up after this point will be looking for more government to fix the problem not less, therefore any voting out will be done to vote in big government types. It's tragic, but $1 trillion or $10 trillion later in bailouts and this is where we are.

Watch the bastards do an immediate repeal and drive up the taxes extracted from your paycheck...immediately. It could be worse. The repeal could be enacted in June...retroactive to January. Your tax liability will exceed what your employer has taken from your paycheck. You'll spend the balance of the year with the higher rate and additional withholding to "catch up".

gmentPelosi "urging" Obama to repeal Bush tax cuts

Pelosi's ignorance promotes more confusion. Her ignorance this time causes her to confuse tax rates with tax revenues.

Many people share this ignorance but they are not people in leadership positions within our government. There is an old saying, "expect more and you will get more". We would be well without our rights to apply that axiom to our government leaders. I certainly expected more wisdom in judgment from House Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Does anyone have data to debunk the “tax cuts for the rich” myth? Does anyone know how the average family was defined and what they got back?
