ST. LOUIS - Michigan saw the nation's most outbound migration in 2008, with 67.1 percent of interstate moves heading out, according to a migration study released Wednesday.
It marked the third straight year that Michigan, hard hit by the economy and layoffs in the auto industry, has seen the highest percentage of outbound migration.

I’m riding it out.
I moved to Alabama from Michigan.
73 degrees today here in Southern Alabama.
And the political climate is nice too!
I’m forced to ride it out because of house and wife’s desire to remain half froze.
Go if you can. You won’t be sorry.
A bunch of Wolverines landed here recently (NE Mississippi). Nice folks but their football priorities are a little misunderstood.
My girl Jenny’s got a magic touch, doesn’t she?
And good ‘ol Kwame, the ex-mayor of Deee-troit.
It’s home. I’ve lived elsewhere but always come back so I gave up on leaving.
I feel the same way about the NYC-area. I’ve visited 43 states and have lived in five. Some things are more important than politics (although the taxes and gun laws keep pushing me to the brink of leaving yet again).
Moved at the end of 07 from Dearborn, MI to Louisville, KY. Best thing we ever did.
My family is here and that’s what it’s all about. Christmas was all about comparing unemployment checks but we were together as a family.
Besides Michigan is a beautiful state.
Thx for the laugh. I do need some laughs now and then as the Democrats take the country to utter and complete destruction.
It’s going to drop down to 43 here in Arizona tonight, so I know you all will be feeling sorry for us.
I lived in Saugatuck for 5 years. It is a beautiful state, but...Michigan needs to do something about who they are electing, that is the only way to turn it around. I still remember my kids making fun of Debbie Stab-n-ow! Do miss driving up to the UP in October, I was in awe at how beautiful the trees changing colors was. Probably will never see it again since my reason for being in Michigan in the first place is now my ex....
We tried to reelect a good conservative congressman with Tim Walberg. Unfortunatelt the GOP threw him overboard and withdrew campaign money because they said he was a lost cause.
He lost by 2% in a 4 way race.
it is debbie stab-a-cow
I'd love to come back (especially from Seattle's dark winters)... but not until there's hope for the place.
MI ping
Shhhh!
Left Howell, MI in 2002, it took a yr to sell my home on acreage & lost quite a bit of $$ back then - cannot imagine trying to sell now!
Love it here in Round Rock, TX & would never move back!
Over 200 days of sun here in Central TX yearly - not to many in burrrrr MI
We’ll probably stay here (MI) but all our kids will probably have to go to find jobs...I don’t mind that...but dang it...they’ll take the grandkids with them...THAT I resent!
this story is WAY, WAY, WAY underplaying how bad it is.
It’s not ‘third consecutive year’ of outbound net population. This is the THIRD CONSECUTIVE DECADE!!!!!
Wiki...
In August 2008, Money Magazine named Round Rock as the 7th best American small city to live in.
funny. I have been chuckling remembering my kids running around pretending to stub their tows and saying stab-n-OWWW. Even now, 8 years later we see her on Cspan or something and my kids will say isn’t that stab-n-OWWW.
Tourism is what will keep that state afloat. I always thought great place to visit but wouldn’t want to live there and think the opposite of my home here in Kansas, great place to live, but wouldn’t want to visit there....
1/3 of the moves were INTO the state? Who are those loonies??
I think you should of moved a little bit further south, but anything is better then living near the Detroit area.
Found memeory as a kid of going to the UP every year after year for vacation at Brevort Lake for fishing.(Parents couldn't afford much of a vacation.) A lot of cheap things to do like going to the county dump and watch the bears come out to raid the dump. Actually about a dozen cars would show up. Yep those were the good old days.
Especially north of the Bridge. Hopefully Obama's infrastructure initiative overlooks extending any 4 lane highways through Wisconsin into the U.P. . It would bring up too many FIBs.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Let's start the pool: How many Congressional reps are we going to lose, one, two or three? Any takers?
She did say we would be blown away. She meant it.
Wow, clicked on your name, read your story about your grandson... I am praying thru my tears for you, and Josh.
Yeah, she sure wasn't kidding when she said we were going to get blown away was she?
Thanks. Ya it’s been a long 14 months. Not a whole lot of progress. The Drs told us to reevaluate at 1 yr. but he’s there...I KNOW he is...What do Drs know...
Moving trends: Leaving Mich. heading east, west
Fleeing another dem-o-rat paradise.
****
Really soon “all America will become dem-o-rat paradise” if people don’t stand for something firm and fight for their God given rights!
I left NYC and just moved to Michigan my body is weak but my WILL remainds intact this problem will only turn around when people honor their Creator Council!
Isa. 29: 13.
13 ¶ Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Titus 1: 16 (15-16).
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Can’t even imagine..and what you feel is what is important, not what the Dr. tells you to do. He is a living breathing part of your life, and always will be, no matter what shape he is in physically or mentally. I pray for strength for you, truly I do.
Wait ‘til the global warming hits you this summer.
Thanks for prayer. He is able to hold himself in a sitting position now for very short times. That’s HUGE! A non thinking person doesn’t try to balance themselves and jerk if they feel themselves falling.
So much for Drs...
I have good friends who moved down to Spring, TX 10 years ago. They have been trying to get us to move down since. I visited a few times and loved it. Trying to convince my husband to leave. Now that the Wall Street industry is dying (or just about dead), I may have a shot at getting him to go. The hard part is leaving the kids and grand kids.
Spring is a now town. Its just outside of Houston so you will have lots to do. Next time bring your kids to visit they may like it too.
It’s a great state away from the cities.
“great state away from the cities.”
That it is. I lived there many years.
