...Obama has to be involved in this, but why bring this to a head again when it was almost rectified. It's just reopening a stupid decision for renewed criticism.

I do not believe that Obama has anything to do with this. At least not the current senate mixup. I think his original statement was his attempt to 'pick the winner' and appear authoritative. That failed so he is wise to stay out of this and let the grownups handle things. Reid is simply being truculent, and wants to have his way, being the big cheese and all. Durbin is just a pinhead. They'd like a delay until a conviction occurs, but may not get it. Obama, with his limited contribution displayed his ignorance of state law, the Constitution, and even senate rules. He's in over his head now. God help us all later.

Obama may or may not be involved directly or indirectly with the sale of the Senate seat, but I'd bet Blago has a bunch of other goods on him. Obama has been entrenched in Chicago politics for two decades -- Blago was governor for over 6 of those years. If it will reduce the horrible prison sentence he may be faced with, he'll talk.

"If Blagojevich does have something on the Liberal Messiah, then His apostles may go Vince Foster on Blago's ass."

I had thought the same thing until very recently. Given his attitude and behavior--he is NOT bluffing or posturing--this is the most dangerous type of guy you are going to meet: the man who knows he has nothing to lose. IF Blago is holding a face-down card bearing the Kenyan's likeness, the both of them know it. The lad at the top elect cannot afford to have anyone below him act on his or their own behalves, as you can bet Blago has multiple copies of everything he knows secreted away in multiple locations with the instructions that "In the event that ANYTHING should happen to me. . . ."

That this has gone this far for this long and nothing has happened to Blago, I'd say odds are beyond good that he has become "untouchable." Neither the party, the players, nor the system have shut him up or shut him down. There is a reason for that. It isn't that they can't do it but that they can't afford to do it. He has NOTHING to lose; his silent partners in crime have EVERYTHING to lose, and if one of them falls, they all come tumbling after. This is high-stakes chess with a vengeance.

“Maybe he can be Chicago’s poet laureate after his stint as Gov. is over....LOL”

I think he’s hoping some professor of English Lit or Humanities might be on the jury to vote for acquittal on grounds that a Tennyson-spouting governor can’t be ALL bad...

What I meant was the current Reid-Burris argument. His history as a politician, that’s a whole different thing. Some here say he is driving the Reid stuff. I contend he isn’t remotely capable.

Your #231—I believe they are expecting the removal of Blago to move along and still are hoping to put their own candidate in as Senator, so it was bounced back to Sec. of State White this afternoon to certify the Burris appointment for him to be seated. They also want to look into a Blago connection to some contributions Burris received awhile back. Supposedly its the kind of thing that would have been “vetted” if there had been a campaign. Altho these types of things are rarely if ever vetted in Illinois elections....

I’m not going to agree with you here. The last thing Obama needs is the Blago & Burris issues carrying over into his administration. I believe that’s why he changed his mind about Burris this week. But Burris was not on Obama’s short list for his seat. And Burris would be a weak candidate come 2010. I can see Obama meddling in the Senate’s business.

Obama is in over his head. And so are Reid/Durbin on this. They’ll get a short delay, but I give it until the end of the month at best. Then, we’ll go through another “awakening” as we did on Tuesday or whenever. And Burris will get his seat. Who knows, they may even cave and give him seniority commensurate with the rest of the newcomers this past Monday. After all, he showed up to work...

I agree with their wanting to wait on the Senate trial. But they're playing with fire. That could go on awhile, and that Senate seat will stay vacant. But regarding the Blago/Burris contributions, that was the point of their condition that Burris pass the Illinois House meeting of yesterday. By all accounts, he did pass. That, and Jessie White's signature, were the only two conditions placed on Burris. The Illinois Supreme Court eliminated the condition of White's signature. Thus, they have no leg to stand on beyond posturing.

As for vetting, there was no campaign. It was an appointment and there is no law, state or federal, barring the person selected from taking the seat. Only procedural Senate rules which aren't law. They're not on shaky legal ground, they're out to sea.

“Obama may or may not be involved directly or indirectly with the sale of the Senate seat, but I’d bet Blago has a bunch of other goods on him.”

Article 6 of the impeachment relates to Illinois Health Facilities Board—the very same Board Obama corruptly sponsored legislation to have dialed down to 9 members to facilitate all the pay-for-play games that ensured. Obama’s role is not included in the impeachment report, but you can be sure that when Blago gets to tell his side of the story, he will have the choice of whether to tell a bigger story (that starts from the beginning and explains Obama’s role in it) or a much narrower story. You can rest assured BHO and RE will be watching this like a hawk.
http://www.ilga.gov/house/committees/Documents/Final%20Report%20of%20the%20Special%20Investigative%20Committee.pdf

The nice thing about this is that even if BHO figures out a way to shut down Fitz (by firing or a backroom deal), this same little bit of corruption can come around to bite him on the behind from a completely different direction. I sure hope he’s not prone to nervous face tics....

Kudos on excellent work. I encourage you to post your new and improved version at pbwiki.com. It really is about as easy as making a peanut butter sandwich AND it’s free! https://secure.pbwiki.com/signup.wiki.

The advantage of doing this is that others here can help you. Unlike Wikipedia, which is often beset by driveby vandals who like to post garbage just to see how long they can get away with it, pbwiki lets you control who is authorized to post so that you have more hands to make light work without necessarily inviting the whole world in to deface or obliterate what you’ve done.

IMO BO want Burris seated SAP so that no one investigates what Burris has been up to.....It points to BO.

Blank-O knew exactally what he was doing....trying to win points with Fitz...direct him in another direction.

“Wonder what poet he will quote at his next performance? Maybe a little Maya Angelou for good measure”

Ah, but Maya Angelou is American. Methinks there is method to Blago’s madness in selecting BRITISH poets. After all, BHO was born a British dual citizen.

I may be wrong, but I think Blago is jerking BHO’s chain by sending a little message that legally, he has a far more legitimate claim on the governor’s seat than BHO ever will on the president’s. If Blago next quotes from William Shakespeare, John Milton, the Bronte sisters, or even JRR Tolkien or the Harry Potter series, this will be a clue that he’s got BHO’s number and isn’t the least bit inhibited about broadcasting this fact.

No doubt Blago belongs behind bars, but let’s at least give him credit for entertaining the masses as he desperately seeks to tap dance away from the Big House.

Would Blago be able to get a fair trial in Illinois? Can federal trials have a change in venue?
