Apologies to the regular readers of this blog.

This is a political post, which I don’t usually do. I live in Israel. I love the fact that technology brings people together, and I have several online friends from countries considered enemies of or hostile to israel (syria, iran, lebanon).

With the recent conflicts between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza, You’ve probably seen this map being thrown around in various forums.

I thought this was an interesting political post on a software development blog discussing the Israel/Palestine situation from someone living in Israel. Some of the comments are barf worthy too - not sure why but most programmers seem to be left wingers.

1. It was all Jewish land at one point in history.

2. More jews have been kicked out of arab lands than palistinians. They resettled in israeli. Where is THAT map?

The obvious conclusion is that, in the Stage 4 map, there’s still way too much green.

Most of the land in Israel was never privately owned. 90% was owned by the Sultan when the Turks ruled Eretz Israel and then by the British Mandatory government. They passed onto Israel when it became a state in 1948. The land then belongs to the entire nation. That is still true today.

This map series is rubbish.

In 1946 the British controlled a large area (including present-day Jordan) of former Turkish territory. There was no country Palestine. It was called the British Mandate of Palestine and was not yet divided into countries. A small piece of subsequently given as a home for the Jews -- Israel -- and a far larger piece was given to the Arabs and called Jordan.

The other maps show the result of territorial gains made during wars started by the Arabs in 1967 and 1973. Israel gave back much of the land conquered from those wars.

What is Eretz Israel?

It is Hebrew meaning "the land of Israel".

Sheer fantasy. Until sometime in the 1960s, “Palestinian” meant “Jew”.

This area was ruled by Muslim Turks until they sided with Germany in WWI, when they lost it in war to the UK.

European Jews began development as early as the the 1860s, when up to 30-40% of the inhabitants were Jews who had never left.

The so-called Muslim Palestinians are mostly outsiders arriving since the beginning of European Jewish development.

About equal numbers of Jews expelled from Muslim lands changed political sovereignty with Muslims fleeing at the urging of their Muslim brothers in other artificially created Muslim states after 1948.

The “Palestinians” have a country. It’s called Jordan.

I think this is a point that many people either don’t know or just plain ignore: there has ALWAYS been a two-state solution and there is already an Arab state. It’s called JORDAN.

Exactly, and the little Prince needs to be forced or coerced to take his fellow Jordanians home.

It is pointless for Jewish or Palestinian supporters to keep dragging out maps and writs and resolutions and keep up this continuous haggling over who shot who first and why.

Might makes right. That's the reality. The Israelis are more powerful and therefore have a great ability to effect change and peace.

There will never be peace until the two societies separate. Israel likes the cheap Palestinian labor too much to wall themselves off too much.

Eventually, there could be peace if you could ethnically cleanse areas that could then be contiguously joined. Israel would have to give up many settlements and Palestinians would have to end their land claims.

Not enough people are dead for that to happen.

The idiot running this seems to forget that in Israel, Arabs own most privately held land.
If this is bout sovereignty, he should strt with 1922, and note that 75% of the land is the Arab monarchy of Jordan, where Jews may not own land.
