A double slaying east of Colorado Springs on Thursday was the result of a gang-related clash over a stolen iPod, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said.
The suspect, 19-year-old Juan Vasquez, was arrested early Friday in the shooting deaths of two male high school students at a park in the Cimarron Hills area, sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene said.
The victims were identified as 18-year-old Uriel Rascon and 17-year-old Luis Burciaga. Rascon attended Sierra High School, and Burciaga went to The New Horizons School, an alternative high school. Both schools are in Harrison School District 2.
Vasquez is being held in the El Paso County jail on an immigration hold placed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, jail records show.
He is due to appear in court Monday. An arrest affidavit was not available.
Autopsies determined that Rascon and Burciaga each died of a gunshot wound in the chest. They were shot with an SKS semiautomatic rifle, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said.
Sevene said Vasquez and the two victims were members of rival gangs. They met in the Cimarron Eastridge Park off Constitution Avenue, Sevene said, in what apparently was a brawl set off by a fight involving Sand Creek High School students the day earlier over an iPod music player.

You laugh, but Mexicans really will kill each other over the stupidest stuff. A few years back, here in the Triangle area, we had a news story in which one Mexican guy killed (can't remember if he shot him, or what) another over whose village back in Mexico was better. Seriously.

Nineteen year olds should not be in high school.

I expect a lot of school shootings and stabbings will increase now that Obama is President. Especially among inner-city schools where black teens will be empowered.

I live in the country also but work in the city. About a year ago at 0200 AM I had a blacked out SUV coming at me at about 80mph the wrong way on a one way street. I hit the lights and he turned down a deadend. Dude had just left a bar and was drunk as a skunk - had puked all over the inside of the SUV that had out of state plates. Couldn’t even stand up - had no DL only ID was from out of country. Stories like the one from Colorado are tragic. Even more so when perp. shouldn’t be here in the first place.

I'm soooo glad law-abiding citizens aren't allowed to carry weapons in parks. Heck, that way the gang kids can feel safe. :-/ These laws are so effective, thank heavens there was no rash, quick-thinking citizen there with a firearm. Why, they might have shot poor Vasquez. Chalk up another life saved... :-/
Seriously though, that park is just off Constitution Ave. and heck, I drive right by there on C. on Sundays on my way too/from Church! Great, just flippin' great.

Somebody’s kid was forced to sit next to these thugs. Would you like it to be your kid?
Finally, there are school with a social, moral, and ethical environment that is sooooooo toxic that it would be better for the child **never** to go to school! This is true even if it meant that child was illiterate and innumerate. ( I **seriously** mean it!)

Most people never saw an SKS let alone fired one. The MSM has made it the poster child for naughty anti-gun phoey. My question is was it Russian or Chinese? Chinese made couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn from 10 feet but can be bought for under $100. That’s why it’s the choice of most wannabe rapper/gangbangers.

You missed my satire. BTW, I had an SKS too, many years ago. The fact is that the MSM catagorize them as assault weapons. I don’t call anything other than full auto an assault weapon.

Come what may, such a tool would be a useful implement on any front line. In fact, considering the sorts who would be coming after my nut, I could probably be dead tired and full of fine rum and still pop the fools before they came as close as a barn turned sideways to me.
