WASHINGTON – Every president leaves unfinished business. For George W. Bush, the list includes two wars and the war on terror, saving Social Security, establishing an enduring Republican majority, and much, much more. In some cases, like immigration reform, he concedes tactical miscalculations. Mostly, though, Bush maintains that he did his best and did the right thing, even when it cost him. "I know this, that I never sold my soul for the sake of approval ratings, which matter not one whit to me. Evidently they do to a lot of other people, but not to me," he told The Dallas Morning News last week. "What matters most is the principles that you adhere to in life, particularly if you're the president of the United States." It's a certitude his fans admire and detractors find maddening. As Bush reviewed his tenure the other day in the Oval Office, he projected confidence that history will judge him more generously than his contemporaries. But for now, the country is clearly ready to move on. Barack Obama's inauguration in nine days will draw record throngs. Millions are counting on him to dismantle the legacy of cowboy diplomacy, to mop up after Bush's recession and end the wars he started. Bush wishes him the best. He hosted Obama and the three living former presidents for lunch last week to usher his successor into their elite fellowship. But Obama's victory represented a sharp turn, in both style and substance. The country's unease with the outgoing president stands at odds with Bush's own assessment of his performance.

He did just that and did it well. The rest of his domestic policy was great considering his burdens.
As for the recount, he won fair and square and Obama is coming into a much more safe government. He won’t have to deal with terrorist attacks (like Bush did) or prosecute two wars. He can continue with the system Bush successfully set up and could round up more vermin. Gitmo is set up and running. I don’t think Obama sees this and I imagine we’re gonna get hit sooner or later after the inauguration.
The last time the terror scum hit it was just after Bush took office. Obama is going to be similarly tested. I don’t see him succeeding though.

his administration has kept us safe, but has also done nothing to secure the border. if millions of illegals can come back and forth across the southern border, what’s to prevent terrorist from coming across, and lying in wait, just like the 911 terrorists.
anyone who already works for the border patrol, or military has to wonder about the support or lack of it toward those who protect the border, the best they can.

I love Boston. I lived in Cambridge for 2 years.
71 percent of the American people now endorse and support and believe in Oprah’s Choice. It’s nice to be with the 29 percent, but some of them will switch over yet.
Cambridge was okay years ago with lots of good stuff there and even the people weren’t too offensive. These days it’s a lot of old Volvos held together with Obama, Kerry, Gore and Clinton stickers, and most of the denizens are plastic liberal script adherers. Today, Cambridge is worth a visit but you wouldn’t want to live there.
On the other hand, Boston for such a small city, is better than ever, fairly prosperous with continuous growth and renewal.
Glad you love Boston.

On CBS’s Sunday Morning, correspondent Thalia Assuras examined President Bush’s historical legacy and relied on two historians in her lengthy piece, both of whom labeled Bush one of the nation’s worst Presidents. Douglas Brinkley declared: “I think it’s safe to say that President Bush is going to be seen as the very bottom-rung of American Presidents...As a judicial historian looking at what’s occurred on his watch, it is almost void of genuine accomplishment.” Joseph Ellis contended: “I think that George Bush might very well be the worst President in American history...He’s unusual. Most two-term Presidents have a mixed record...Bush has nothing on the positive side, virtually nothing.” Following these Bush-bashing historical assessments, Assuras exclaimed: “And that’s not a minority opinion. In a 2006 Siena College survey of 744 history professors, 82 percent rated President Bush below average or a failure. Last April, in an informal poll by George Mason University of 109 historians, Mr. Bush fared even worse; 98 percent considered him a failed president. Sixty-one percent judged him, as Ellis does, one of the worst in American history.” The only positive assessments of Bush’s legacy came from former Bush advisors Dan Bartlett and David Frum, not any historians who viewed Bush more positively.
