Forced abortions - America's secret epidemic (Homicide Leading Killer of Pregnant Women)
One News Now ^ | 1/11/2009 | Charlie Butts

The Elliot Institute has released a report that exposes America's forced abortion epidemic. Elliot Institute spokesperson Amy Solby tells OneNewsNow that one study found 64 percent of women who had abortions reported they felt pressured to abort by others. "Something like 80 percent of them said that they didn't get the counseling they needed to make a good decision, that often they were not given counseling at all, or that the counseling they had was inadequate," she explains.

... a Georgia mother forced her pregnant 16-year-old daughter to drink turpentine in hopes of aborting her baby. She was later arrested for criminal abortion

Wouldn't attempted murder be a better charge? Turpentine is more likely to kill the daughter than to induce abortion.

“64 percent of women who had abortions reported they felt pressured to abort by others.”

I knew a pregnant woman once who was engaged and looking forward to having her baby - to being dumped by her fiance, and told by her own father “if you don’t have an abortion you cannot live her and I won’t give you one penny to help you”

So she aborted.
sigh

Back in the late 70’s my niece was pressured into having an abortion. Years later it became known among the extended family that this happened. In her late 20s she became a strong Christian and about 10 years after than her parents accepted Christ as well.

This abortion has been a source of very great sorrow for the entire family, **especially** my niece and her parents. There is always that nagging tugging on the mind and soul.

My niece died last year of lung cancer at the age of 46. She never did have any children.

10. Changing Lives Through The Making Abortion Rare TV Series

In 2003, Elliot Institute director Dr. David Reardon and Dr. Theresa Burke, founder of Rachel's Vineyard post-abortion ministries, filmed a six-part television series called Making Abortion Rare for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). The Making Abortion Rare series has helped to raise awareness of pro-woman / pro-life issues—including widespread coerced and unwanted abortions—and helped viewers better understand why abortion is so traumatic and life-altering for so many women and their families.

Each time the series has aired, we have received calls from viewers who want to know more about our efforts, including a woman who had previously had an abortion and happened to stumble across the show while flipping through the channels on her TV. Her call to us was the first time she had ever talked with anyone about her own story of coercion, lack of choice and significant post-abortion heartbreak. Making Abortion Rare is now available on DVD through EWTN.

“Homicide leading (or 2nd leading) cause of death among pregnant women” headlines are misleading. Sometimes, although perhaps not always, intentionally on the part of the writer.

Pregnant women are almost always young women between say 15 and 40. This group just doesn’t die very often. Heart attacks and cancer are rare. So other causes of death move up the ladder.

Homicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among women of this age, whether pregnant or not, as for that matter it is among men of the same age, in both bases with accidents as number one.

The statistic about pregnant women is meaningless unless compared to similar non-pregnant women.

Suspicious people also note that when ranking rather than rates are discussed, it’s usually because the rate (murders per 100k population, for instance) isn’t very impressive.

These stats are usually used to beat up some group or promote a cause. Usually the target is those evil men who in massive numbers kill their pregnant wives or girlfriends. In this case it appears it’s being used to support a pro-life cause.

I guess that’s an improvement over male-bashing.

Interesting choice of words for a "crime"

I guess that’s the term Georgia statutes use for attempted abortion with turpentine or a baseball bat, instead of abortions that legally and “safely” take place in facilities that don’t have to meet the sanitary standards of veterinary clinics.

Thank you. Sometimes I am almost tempted to get cable or broadband so I could know what's going on.

Then I figure, "What's the good of that?" and pour another Margarita.

Going to an abortion clinic for “counseling” will result in only one “choice” being marketed. And I do mean marketed.

Just reporting statistics: most legislators and Supreme Court justices are men. Therefore, abortion law was, and is, made by men.
