The man arrested at Los Angeles International Airport with a trunk full of guns and nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition said Saturday that he is a law-abiding weapons enthusiast who had no idea he might be breaking the law.
A day after he was arrested for suspicion of felony transportation of an assault rifle, Phillip Dominguez said he's confident he'll be exonerated.
"Our Second Amendment rights are being trampled in the name of law enforcement," Dominguez said. "I'm a law-abiding, taxpaying gun enthusiast. I have no felonies - up until now."

Hell, here in GA now you can take a loaded weapon into the airport all the way to security as long as you are a CCW holder. Boy did that make the Dems here scream bloody murder. That and your employer can not prevent you from parking on property with a weapon in your car thanks to a lawsuit.
He was picking up a friend at the airport on the way to the range.
The airport here is close to 70 mi from my house. Am I not allowed to protect myself from here to there ?
You would think, wouldn't you, that a gun enthusiast in CA would try to make himself aware of the laws? For his own protection?

It wasn’t the guns or the ammo that was the problem so much as the registered, and thus legal,”assault” rifle he had.
He claims that he was unaware of the law on such firearms that states that they may only be transported to and from a legal activity, i.e. to and from the range. However, it isn’t legal to do so when the range is one of several stops on the trip. It is arguable that the law is obscure, vague, and thus unknowable. As such, it would be unconstitutional. Also, IIRC, the State includes a whole laundry list of warnings about what isn’t legal to do with one’s registered “assault” rifle along with the registration documents. Excluding that one activity, transporting the rifle, implies permission to do so.
Of course, he might have had less trouble had he also been carrying a copy of the Koran, but I digress.
In CA I think you’re still allowed to...with a handgun.

There is a move afoot to make a zone AROUND all airports where guns cannot be carried, transported, or possessed.
Imagine trying to get to Camp Perry or any out-of-state competition (like the Olympics) if you cannot get your guns NEAR the airport!
This is not intended to keep us safe, I think.
This guy just became a poster child for that concept. Many people will now jump on the bandwagon for special exclusionary zones (hey, the Heller case said it was constitutional to do so) around airports, schools, parks, churches, bus stops, cement plants, gas stations, streetlights, or public or private land. 0bama wanted a five mile exclusion zone, keeping evil gun stores five miles from a “school” however that’s defined.

I think the article mentions that the specific part of the law he broke was not mentioned on his “permission letter”.
“Dominguez said he got state permission to own and use the assault rifle last month but the approval letter didn’t mention it was illegal in California to make a pit stop while transporting the weapon from his home to the gun range.
That code requires that “registered assault weapons may be transported only between specified locations,” according to the Web site of the California Attorney General’s Office. “
First, where is the law about "declaring" legal, unloade weapons in the trunk of your car on airport parking lots?
Second, a thousand rounds of ammo can fit into a small shoebox. The hysterical writer is trying to drum this into something it's not.
I hardly ever go to the range without at least 1000 rounds of ammunition. That’s 50 rounds into 20 targets; A good afternoon of shooting.
Unless his guns are fully automatic, they are probably legal.
One of the many reasons I left SoCali for North Florida.

Did you read the whole article. I am flabbergasted what they did to this guy just for having some LOCKED UP guns in the back of his truck!!!!
At an airport? Doesn't he own a radio or TV?
I guess he didn't see the video of guns loading themselves up and climbing out of car trunks to prey on innocent citizens.
