SLEDGE, Mississippi (CNN) -- James Presley stands amid chopped cotton, the thick Mississippi mud caked on his well-worn boots. A smile spreads across his face when he talks about voting for Barack Obama and what that might mean for generations to come. His voice picks up a notch. He holds his head up a bit higher.
"There's a heap of pride in voting for a black man," he says.
At 78, Presley is a legend of the past living in the present and now hopeful for the future. A grandson of slaves, he's one of the few men left in America so closely tied to his slave past, still farming cotton on the same land as his ancestors. He's picked cotton since he was just 6 years old.
He and his wife of 57 years, Eva May, raised 13 children and six grandchildren in a cypress-sided house in the middle of cotton fields in northwestern Mississippi. He was a sharecropper most his life, but rarely qualified for food stamps.

He's lived a raw-knuckled life where hope moved at a molasses-slow pace. The last time he had hope for a better future was four decades ago -- first with President John F. Kennedy and then with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Obama has changed everything to the poor in these parts.

I believe he represents the WORST of both!
I believe some of his white ancestors owned slaves.
Everyone is so big talking about how groundbreaking it was for America to election a black man. It is even MORE groundbreaking that the majority have elected a Red Pinko.
His father’s tribe sold slaves, his mother’s ancestors bought and worked them. Great bone fides to please black people don’tchaknow.
I still wonder where the white half is being counted...it perplexes me to think that 50% = African American.
To be factually correct, he is Kenyan-American and not eligible to be President.

Walking a mile in this man's shoes would open a lot of eyes; can't say I'd feel any different if I were in his position. He grew up in a time and place where racism was more than an excuse for failure to perform; it was real and somtimes deadly.
But acting on feelings rather than facts will be the downfall of many.
That is what I read when his geneology was being dug into to early on....so why don’t these people get it??? Intelligence seems to be missing in these worshipping the false Messiah people.
Another thing that sounds suspicious is that they say he was called “Little Man” because his father died when he was five and he had to step up and be the man of the house, yet it becomes clear later on that he was in fact the YOUNGEST of a large family. He had older sisters and brothers and evidently was called “Little Man” as a term of endearment for the baby of the family.

Well, we know that he is 50% white on his mom's side, but how did you arrive at the figure of 10% black from his father's side?

There are alot of “special people” whose low IQ leads them to believe that “Obama is an Arab.” Hello, he’s HALF Luo (a group not known to intermix with Arabs).

He has lived a hard life alright but I wonder what kind of life he would have lived in Africa, had his chief not sold his ancestors into slavery.
My ancestors came here very early, before 1700 and I wonder where I would be had they not made the trip.
The thing is; The Obamessiah’s ancestors probably caught and then sold into slavery this guy’s ancestors.

Could you please give a source for that information?
HOw about you give YOUR source that he is all black other than thinking the color of his skin.
