The earth's magnetic field impacts climate: Danish study

COPENHAGEN (AFP) – The earth's climate has been significantly affected by the planet's magnetic field, according to a Danish study published Monday that could challenge the notion that human emissions are responsible for global warming.

"Our results show a strong correlation between the strength of the earth's magnetic field and the amount of precipitation in the tropics," one of the two Danish geophysicists behind the study, Mads Faurschou Knudsen of the geology department at Aarhus University in western Denmark, told the Videnskab journal.

He and his colleague Peter Riisager, of the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), compared a reconstruction of the prehistoric magnetic field 5,000 years ago based on data drawn from stalagmites and stalactites found in China and Oman.

The results of the study, which has also been published in US scientific journal Geology, lend support to a controversial theory published a decade ago by Danish astrophysicist Henrik Svensmark, who claimed the climate was highly influenced by galactic cosmic ray (GCR) particles penetrating the earth's atmosphere.

Svensmark's theory, which pitted him against today's mainstream theorists who claim carbon dioxide (CO2) is responsible for global warming, involved a link between the earth's magnetic field and climate, since that field helps regulate the number of GCR particles that reach the earth's atmosphere.

"The only way we can explain the (geomagnetic-climate) connection is through the exact same physical mechanisms that were present in Henrik Svensmark's theory," Knudsen said.

"If changes in the magnetic field, which occur independently of the earth's climate, can be linked to changes in precipitation, then it can only be explained through the magnetic field's blocking of the cosmetic rays," he said.

I just realized they made a mistake here. Svensmark's theory involves the SUN's magnetic field, not the Earth's. It has to do with the sunspot cycle. However, it looks like the basic mechanism is more or less the same. See my earlier post above for more info on this.

That is, unless he has newer modified theory? But I doubt it because they describe it as being from 1998 or so. This would mean they are wrong then. In any case, it is definitely the same concept: magnetic fields repelling cloud-producing cosmic rays from space.

Amazon isn’t selling the Magnetic Reversals book yet.

How do you know about it?

Possibly something of interest that may link the two

A possible correlation between solar activity and Earth's oblateness

Recent observations demonstrate that Earth's dynamic oblateness (J2), which has exhibited a decrease since 1979, suddenly increased around 1997 and the increase is still continuing. The decrease is attributed to post-glacial rebound from the mantle, and several causes, all of terrestrial nature, have been suggested to explain the sudden change in the trend. But the observations remain puzzling. On the other hand, close relationships are known to exist between many phenomena on the Earth with solar activity, and unusual behaviours of other planets have also been demonstrated to be correlated with solar activity. We show here that solar activity is significantly correlated with J2, and is possibly responsible for the sudden increase in Earth's dynamic oblateness around 1997, the latter being due to an enormous increase in the correlation.

I would think changing the shape of the earth would have an effect on the magnetic field

You can buy it directly from the author. I already have a copy (autographed) that I have read cover to cover.

What does Felix say about Tunguska?

Tunguska is a little "picnic" compared to what happens during a reversal. Felix also discusses the origins of "Carolina Bays". Their geometry and orientation has a specific explanation.

Isnt the polarity of the Earth’s magnetic field supposed to “flip” every 50,000 years or so?

The real problem is that Albore’s bloviations alter the earth’s magnetic field and that accounts for global warming.

So, you see, it is AGW or “anthropogenic global warming” after all — but it’s all caused by the Goreacle.

It is not just the Mayans
Other ancients have versions of an end times event
Now comes a 10th “planet” recognized in 2003 (but tracked for 20 years before that) with an projected orbit (by some sources) that will bring it inside our solar system, between earth and sun, closet point of approach to us - 2012
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2005/29jul_planetx.htm

http://www.detailshere.com/niburu.htm

Supposedly as it nears us, this body will become visible to the naked eye by this summer (2009)- just in time for the release of Hollywood's newest disaster film “2012” Now, conspiracy theorist or not- if there is any factual basis to this- it will be unavoidable to acknowledge it - soon. So keep an eye and ear out.

"...it can only be explained through the magnetic field's blocking of the cosmetic rays," he said."

I think that should be cosmic rays. Cosmetic rays are the ones you get from a tanning bed.

LOL!

You can just buy refrigerator magnet offsets from Al Gore’s multinational conglomorate.

Nope, just make sure the refrigerator and magnets are oriented to reinforce the earth’s magnetic shield when there’s ongoing global warming, and to cancel it partially when there’s ongoing global cooling.

Hope that helps. ^_^
