Alistair McGowan and Emma Thompson join protesters to buy a slice of Heathrow runway By JAMES CHAPMAN A coalition of MPs, celebrities, scientists and green campaigners has bought land earmarked for a third runway at Heathrow airport from under the noses of the Government. They say they will never sell the football pitch-sized plot to airport owner BAA, threatening to hold up the runway for years. The unlikely group of opponents listed among the new owners of the land include Justine Greening, a Tory Treasury spokesman, Liberal Democrat frontbencher Susan Kramer and Left-wing Labour MP John McDonnell. Impressionist Alistair McGowan has backed a campaign to scupper plans to build a third runway at Heathrow Airport after buying up a slice of the land They have been joined by actress Emma Thompson, impressionist Alistair McGowan, Conservative Party green adviser Zac Goldsmith, climate scientist Dr Simon Lewis and Greenpeace director John Sauven. The Cabinet is meeting today to consider whether to give the go-ahead to the runway project. Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon is expected to announce on Thursday that the runway and a sixth terminal at Heathrow have been given the green light.

And how exactly do these celebs flit around the world?
Private aircraft requiring a runway.
Eminent Domain?
Heathrow should just bar those new owners from flying into or out of heathrow, and urge the various governments to list these idealist-loons as a potential flight-RISK.
An afterthought...Just tell all the Luggage Handling Unions about these jerks. Hint that miss handling their stuff WILL be overlooked.
Gotta give them credit...they saw the opportunity and went for it.
I don’t think that suggestions of intimidation would do anything but encourage the forces of lawlessness..namely, the left.

I was stationed at RAF Croughton in the early 90s. It was a small base (no airfield). The nearest big base was RAF Upper Heyford. It did have an airfield. When RAF Upper Heyford closed in 94(?), I had heard it was going to be used as an annex to Heathrow. I’m assuming now it hasn’t. Upper Heyford is about an hour north of London.
