A lot has been written about George W Bush's unpopularity around the globe - but what about those places where the outgoing president was popular?
As he leaves office with a record high domestic disapproval rate - 73%, according to an October ABC News/Washington Post poll - President George W Bush can perhaps take some comfort from the fact that this feeling is not uniformly shared abroad.
While the shoe-throwing incident in Iraq may come to symbolise the world's opinion of a president who is often referred to as the worst in America's history, some corners of the world will miss the 43rd president of the United States.
He has approval ratings of around 80% in Africa, according to some polls, and in Kosovo a main street was named after him to thank him for supporting Kosovo's independence.
"It is generally accepted in the US that Bush has generated hatred for America around the world," says Peter Berkowitz, a fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution.
"But the picture is not black and white," he added.

Well, there’s a lot of morons out there. Even the BBC might start missing Bush when Gordon Brown picks up the phone and asks Obama for help defending Europe against some Muslim or Russian onslaught, and Obama replies, “Sorry, it’s above my pay grade. Do it yourself.”
Israel, though not on your list, might have scored the highest (or close to it) in confidence in Bush. Same for the Philippines - also not listed.
I will miss GW, a lot. But, while he was in office I would never say a word against him in either chat or on a message board. The reason was twofold, I did not want to be mistaken for a libtard puke. I also did not want to give libtards ammo and make them happy that my choice doing any less than a bang up job IMO. Now, the tables are turned and the libtards have no disipline whatsoever, they will be unhappy with a lot of things 0bama is likely to do and they will talk about it giving us a lot of ammo and making me at least very happy that they are upset with their choice.
After a year or two of Obama, the United States and lot of other countries are going to miss Bush a whole lot more than they do right now.
Bush was faced with the greatest threat to America since Pearle Harbor and he did a fine job.
a direct result of war...
Reagan, you'll recall, was also savaged by the MSM, but overcame it better by sticking to principles, which W failed to do in many instances.
Mexico and all the countries in Central America.
That’s interesting. I spoke with my best friend last night who just came back from a 2 week trip to India. Her consensus was that the Indian people admired President Bush and that they felt “protected” under his watch. The Indian people she and and her husband spoke to are quite fearful of Obama who is “not to be trusted “ and “talks too much”.
There are things I wish he'd done differently to be sure, but on the whole, I'm grateful we had him at the helm of government for the past four years, and I think history will treat him kindly. Most of all, I admire him for the enemies he has accumulated over the past eight years. When one considers the cast of characters that hate him with every fiber of their being, it becomes apparent he really did stand for a lot of right things.
“Finally, in their own way, leaders like Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, Cuba’s former president Fidel Castro and Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad may come to miss the man they loved to hate when they have to start dealing with his successor, the man that the world loves to love.”
hmmmmmm
Meanwhile, we all will suffer the consequences of his not defending his Presidency from Liberal hacks and the mainstream media. We got a Socialist who thinks he’s God and, who is in reality, Satan.
“But, I wonder whose popularity would be any different than Bushs had they been trashed by the MSM on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis? No one, IMO, could have survived that savagery.”
Amen to that. Truer words were never spoken.
Obama is a socialist Islamophile.
“He has approval ratings of around 80% in Africa, according to some polls, and in Kosovo a main street was named after him to thank him for supporting Kosovo’s independence. “
Great. He wasted a fortune of our taxdollars in Africa attempting to fight AIDS - which will never be succesful until they start behaving in a less promiscuous manner, and he propped up a second Islamic state in the bowels of Europe.
Great Show Jorge!!
Iranians do as well. 70% of Iranians had a favorable view of the US according to a poll by a Tehran-based company a few years ago.
I’m guessing Israel, Georgia, Macedonia, and the Philippines will miss Bush. They were the only 4 countries where a majority of people wanted McCain to win the election.
If Iraqis are smart they’ll be missing Bush when 0bama pulls troops out and terror begins again.
What I find funny though, is that while our approval rating in Kuwait was around less than 20%, it shot up to 60% in 2003, the year we invaded Iraq. Kuwait, of course, was invaded by Iraq a decade earlier, so they cheer when someone else invades their invader. LOL.
When the main stream media glowingly covers Bo appearing at Ft. Bragg,
on his bicycle, to proclaim a peace treaty with all the Amish terrorists in Lancaster PA., try not to feel insulted. This is a different time.
Be secure in the knowledge that months after we have been wiped out by those from within and without who hate us, a ship named after your father, will be raining death on every last one of them.
