Nana, if you’re watching this farce, Naifeh is sitting right next to Traitor Williams whispering in his ear at the rostrum. You can almost see his arm up his butt making him talk. Literal puppet. Williams doesn’t even know about parliamentary procedure, he has to ask everyone else around him. Total sideshow.
I’m watching this. This is awful. Somebody do
something. I’m watching my state go down the rathole....
The 1960s redistricting was credited by some observers with creating the first Republican majority in the Tennessee House since Reconstruction in 1968; this situation lasted only until the next election in 1970. The Speaker of the House is second in line to succession to the governorship after the Speaker of the Tennessee Senate. Tennessee's second longest-serving Speaker of the House, Ned McWherter, became Governor in 1987. Since 1973, all Speakers have been from a single Democratic faction in West Tennessee; this has become a source of some resentment. The Speaker, under House rules, has the right to appoint all committees and their chairs and assign proposed legislation to committees, giving the Speaker tremendous power to push legislation through or conversely, to block it.
And some freepers want these RAT overlords to control the FEDERAL government as well? Good grief. It's like Illinois where all our "statewide" RAT leaders (Madigan, Hynes, Obama, etc.) live within a couple of miles of each other on Chicago's south side. (interesting enough, embattled Gov. Blago's from the north side), with Mike Madigan as Speaker continually since 1983 (except the 1994 election fluke that resulted in complacent RINO Lee Daniels to be marginal Speaker for 1995-1996)
Looks like the TN Speaker has the same dictatorial power as the IL Speaker to control the agenda unilaterally and bring to the floor and basically pass or block whatever he wants, with the rest of his caucus rubber stamping it. In other words, the "house" wouldn't appoint the U.S. Senator, Mike Madigan and Dem sock puppet Kent Williams would make that choice themselves for our respective states behind closed doors, with the "vote" on the appointment predetermined. Scary stuff.
The problem I have with the "abolish the 17th amendment" gang on FR is they seem to lack the basic conservative principal that individual citizens can make decisions for themselves and don't need government to take care of it for them. Instead, they honestly seem have the same mindset as most liberals: that ordinary people are just too dumb and uniformed to determine their government, so we should be governed by a small group of like-minded blue-blooded elites that know what's best for society, and the citizens should just shut up and go along with it because they're smarter than us. That any "conservative" would have this as a core belief and trust in big government overlords is quite disturbing to me.
Shades of Harry Reid...
I knew the Williams bit...
Did you see that, Boss Hogg talking to Traitor Williams when gaveling out todays farce, “Good job !”
Tomorrow, we elect the Constitutional officers. Even with Traitor Williams, there is a wide-enough GOP Senate majority to overcome his treachery, so we should be able to install Republicans in those offices for the first time since President Ulysses Grant... but then again, after today, who knows what crap they’ll pull tomorrow.
We have GOT to get on top of this. Good grief this
is ridiculous! Pretty soon we are going to be nothing
better than Chicago. God help us.
The Wikipedia comment is in error. We never had the majority in the 1969-70 session. There were 49 Democrats, 49 Republicans and 1 Independent. The Indy refused to participate in the Speaker vote and the House deadlocked, since 50 votes is needed to elect a Speaker. Since Bill Jenkins was from East Tennessee, he talked to a Black Democrat in Knoxville, and he courageously agreed to provide the 50th vote. The difference between that and this is that we won the numerical majority this year for the first time since 1868, we had “50.” There was no majority in the ‘69 session, no side could claim majority status.
All we can do at this point is make Williams’s life a living hell. He shouldn’t be able to sleep at night for his treachery. As was pointed out what befell the two CA RINO traitors in 1995 propping up the minority Democrat power of Willie Brown, one died of a dreadful cancer shortly after and the other went to prison. C’est la vie for Judas traitors.
The West TN mafia is just like Chicago. I’ve been waiting most of my lifetime to see the overthrow of their corrupt minority regime, and thanks to one traitor, they’ve perpetuated it for another 2 years.
Not on the books, per se, but as I understand it, one could petition for a recall in his District.
I’ve never seen it happen. If it was tried, the rodent hack AG (whom is the one Constitutional officer we cannot vote on tomorrow since he is chosen by the trial-lawyer selected State Supreme Court) would nullify it. He’ll protect his own party’s power. The prior hack allowed Pharoah Phil to break campaign finance laws willfully to buy the Governorship in 2002.
That’s our government now. We better watch out or we will be stuck with Kay Baily Hutchenson.
Lord help our Texas friends.
That sounds like he’s gone past RINO and on to Democrat mole in the party.
>> Get ready, this is a microcosm of what is to come in the Dems 1 seat shy of a filibuster proof majority. The likeness is uncanny. <<
I'm convinced the RATs have "fail safe" measures in place in most parts of the country to find ways to cling to power when a scenario results in them being narrowly defeated by the voters. The theft of Minnesota's senate seat is another fine example. Even, the Canuk version of RATs tried to overturn the election results recently. As far as RATs are concerned, once a seat or office goes RAT, they "own" it forever. From their perspective, Norm Coleman is temporarily "occupying" Paul Wellstone's Democrat seat.
Even take my state for an example. We have a 59 member senate. Only 7 years ago, my state senate was Republican. Today, the Dems have a gerrymandered "safe" legislature and thanks to even more GOP screwups, have a filibuster proof 37D-22R majority. But let's go with a Dem "doomsday" scenario. Let's say there was a special election held in Illinois and voters were so FED UP with the RATs and GOP turnout is on par with 1994 levels. As a result, the GOP won ALL the contested seats in the suburbs and downstate -- including several majority Dem districts -- and the new makeup of the state senate was 30R-29D.
Republicans take control? Possibility. But under such a scenario, Kirk Dillard certainly got re-elected, since he is the dean of the DuPage delegation (home to our state's Republican machine) and in an ultra safe GOP district. However, Kirk Dillard is also part of the Illinois combine and takes money under the table from the RATs. He is the Illinois version of Jim Jeffords, and had a pathetic 40% conservative rating from the United Republican Fund last year, our state's equivalent of the ACU. Dillard agreed to appear in campaign ads for Obama last year, where he heaped praised on Obama's work in the Illinois General Assembly (Dillard claimed this wasn't actually an endorsement on his part. Sure.) Dillard doesn't switch parties or even become independent, but let's say he decides the Senate Republican leadership is just too mean-spirited and "divisive" to be in charge, so he votes with the 29 RATs to make John Cullerton (D-Chicago) Senate President. You'd get the same result that happened in California, Texas, and Tennessee.
Believe me, the RATs have planned this stuff out, and have sleeper cells in the GOP ready to be activated.
I think some freepers simply dislike the word "democracy" because it sounds like "Democrat". But believe me, the last thing the Democrat party believes in is its namesake. The only time the Dems accept election results as legit is when they win.
Reminds me of what happened in NC several years back as well. A RINO stooge, Michael Decker, was paid off to change parties when NC had a Republican edge in the House. That brought the House back to a tie and keep crooked Dem Jim Black as co-speaker.
About 3-4 years later Black resigned and is serving time in prison for bribery and obstruction.
The training ground for Gore, Senior. A Democrat will steal anything that is not nailed down...a lesson oft repeated and which we should never forget.
