The only ones who don't, are those Americans whose brains have been sucked out by the evil brain snatchers, and in its place is complete f**ktardedness. Hmmmm....actually, that might be a significant number of people.

Thanks for the new expression, if you don't mind I will steal this for future posts!

Oh, yeah, one other comment. GW should have his face slapped for going along with this BS. This is an outrage, pure and simple.

The stock market would instantly start plummeting.

Given the negative effect that Obama has had on financial markets, I predict that they would go up if he were assassinated.

If this corrupt government had one ounce of responsibility they'd cancel this public parade and inauguration for Obama, due to an economic emergency, and conduct it in a secured environment, indoors, while televising it to the country.

Yeah, great idea. Cancel the public inauguration ceremony for the first time in US history, when the inauguree just happens to be the first non-white President in US history, and millions of Americans are eager to watch the inauguration in person. The bill to deal with the ensuing riots and property damage would make the $160 million look like pocket change. And the long-term bill to deal with the political fallout would make the bill for the riots and property damage look like pocket change.

The reason that the bill is so high is that many more people are reasonably expected to attend than have ever attended any previous inauguration. The people are voting with their feet, and the government is responding accordingly. Have you taken a peek at the federal budget lately? This $160 million is not only just a drop from the obscenely humongous bucket, but is also a lot better spent than many of the much bigger-ticket items. It alarms me how easily so many conservatives allow themselves to be distracted by this sort of thing.

Nicholas II had his coronation marred by the trampling deaths of thousands. Was not a good way to start his reign.

By the light of a kerosene lamp, Coolidge took the oath from his father, Colonel John Calvin Coolidge, a farmer, notary public, and justice of the peace.

Wow, that's quite a shameless example of using an out-of-context info snippet to mislead. Let's look at the actual context of that swearing in, from the very same site from which you lifted the little out-of-context excerpt:

News of President Harding's death reached Vice President Calvin Coolidge at his family's homestead in Plymouth, Vermont in the small hours of the morning on August 3, 1923. By the light of a kerosene lamp, Coolidge took the oath from his father, Colonel John Calvin Coolidge, a farmer, notary public, and justice of the peace. On August 21, Coolidge repeated the ceremony in his suite at the Willard Hotel in Washington.

Unless Obama cancels the event, the Inauguration is going to happen, and it is going to attract a very large crowd.

Pres. Bush is doing the right thing to make sure that Federal and DC officials have the resources necessary for the logistics and security of a million+ people (twice the population of DC, BTW) coming to the event.

Yes, indeed. While I’m personally not a fan of huge crowd events, no matter what the occasion, most people feel differently and a million or more of them are determined to “be there” to see the first black President of the United States inaugurated. And honestly, even if Obama cancelled the event, I think most of them would show up anyway, to protest, saying he’d been pressured to do it, and that there’s no way a wildly popular white President-elect would have been pressured to cancel his public inauguration over security/expense concerns. Every once in a while, the federal government does something right, and this is one of those all too rare occasions.

Not at all. The circumstances behind the swearing in of Coolidge had little to do with my posting. It was simply an illustration that the act of accepting the office of President does not need to be accompanied by a brouhaha of monumental proportion. A contrast, as I stated. Four million onlookers at a media event replete with t-shirt hawkers and commemorative plates versus a man and his father conducting a simple legal act by the light of kerosene lantern.

Sorry you missed my intention.

interesting! so, the current white house decor is just not suitable for the likes of the obamas. it’s nice to know he’s putting his own frivolities on the top of the soon-to-be-presidential agenda

Bush declares a 'state of emergency' in Washington

Good ole Bush - screwing us right up to the last.

A president mostly uses the power to declare a state of emergency during a crisis, such as a hurricane or other natural disaster. In doing so he paved the way for unlimited funding to be released to those local authorities responsible for staging the event.
While we can all make jokes that Obama's imauguration is a natural disaster, Bush's action just debases the "emergency" aspect of this concept. From now on future presidents can declare anything an emergency and raid the Treasury to ane even greater extent.

For someone who came in on such high hopes, Bush sure turned out to be one steaming POS.

The big bill is for big security, and it’s needed.

Bullsh*t!

The economy is cartwheeling down range out of control, millions have lost their homes, investments, businesses, and jobs...And this monster government is going to spend hundreds of millions on a GD ceremony?

If this corrupt government had one ounce of responsibility they'd cancel this public parade and inauguration for Obama, due to an economic emergency, and conduct it in a secured environment, indoors, while televising it to the country. Period. No more wasting tax payer money that does not exist in the first place.

This is outrageous. Stop the excuses.

This is just another example of out of control, irresponsible, corrupt government driving this country to the brink.

Yeah, great idea. Cancel the public inauguration ceremony for the first time in US history, when the inauguree just happens to be the first non-white President in US history

You're making more excuses on the backs of the tax payers.

More people will view this through television than in public.

In addition, what comes first, the economic well being of our country, or a government ceremony that cost hundreds of millions that we don't have?

As I mentioned above, this government ceremony that will cost tax payers tens of millions could easily be held in a large, secured building, accommodating thousands, and be televised to the entire nation. This would save tens of millions in tax payer dollars.

You use the moniker, "GovernmentShrinker". I would suggest you change your screen name asap.

Now there is another snakeoil saleman beside al gore, it’s the “Chosen One” obamawama.

How long before people get tired of this self promotion?

Me thinks he better get over himself and start producing results to all the promises he’s made to people or he will be toast beside the butt of jokes througout the world.

That part has already started.

In addition, if the GD government is so extremely concerned with security, it would appear what was stated post # 77 would be even more appropriate.
