Rep. Al O'Brien, D-Mountlake Terrace, a retired Seattle police sergeant, has sponsored a bill to look into the possibility of surgically implanting tracking devices in sex offenders who have been released to the community.
His proposal, embodied in House Bill 1142, would hire the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs to see whether implanting "subcutaneous" radio frequency identification devices could be used economically to keep an eye on offenders.
The group would report back to the Legislature in December.
That RFID technology is what the state uses on the Narrows Bridge to electronically collect tolls from motorist. It's that little chip in the decal that we put on our windshields.
One thought that comes to mind is that scene from Total Recall, when Arnold Schwarzenegger's character realizes he is being tracked and pulls the huge bulbous device out of his nostril. I think of this only because, just as ex-cons sometimes disable their ankle bracelets, so too would some of them scratch the RFID tag out from under their skin.
The bill has been referred to te House Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee, but I don't think it's scheduled for a public hearing yet.
Wash (and big brother) ping
Just demonstrates why he’s a former sargent, rather than Chief....
so... then they could tell any time one of them crossed over the bridge. so what?
Either castrate them or place the implant in the same area....Simple.
Say WA? Evergreen State ping
FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this ping list.
Ping sionnsar if you see a Washington state related thread.
There is a very really effective tracking and deterrent tool for sex offenders - a broadaxe between the member and the rest of the body.....tracking you say? Why it’s the blood trail...
If kids are involved, execution.
I think males as a group ought to track down the bastard that not only ‘thunk it up’ but had the audacity to build one!
Agreed......but before that happens, they should be put in a locked room with the father or a person of his choice, and left in there for half an hour.
Why not tag gang bangers?
Or illegal immigrants?
Some people would qualify for 3 tracking devices under these rules.
It would be much more effective to fund the agencies that are charged with keeping tabs on sex offenders. In our part of Florida the average parole or probation officer has a case load of over 100 offenders. No way in hell they can keep up with that many.
Either keep them in prison, or fund the people who have to keep track of them.
Are there any subcutaneous tracking devices available for implanting in humans, any that work worth a darn? Many jurisdictions already use ankle devices to keep tabs on offenders. The ones I’m familiar with, our next door neighbor rented a cottage on his property to a guy was wearing one, work by being hooked up to a phone line. If the receiver loses the signal it dials a number and reports the loss of signal. I don’t think it works real well. Several months after this guy disappeared one day two US marshals knocked on my door and told me they were assigned to track down convicted sexual predators who had jumped supervision.
Why go through the costly implant process when a 3 cent bullet would do the trick? 3 little words = bullet to temple for pedofiles...
no kidding. man, when things happen, they happen fast, don't they? and yet... they can't happen fast enough.
Horrifying. If you support something like this, you deserve every bit of the 1942-esque, big-brother-is-watching, East-Germany STASI police-state that is sure to follow.
I think removal of certain body parts should be studied.
Some DUI have been guilty even for blowing the legal limit.
So do all or a select criteria get the chip.
And just how does location connect the chipee with what he is doing sexually.
What is to stop him from going to a place not known to have kids and it is really a basement full of human trafficked slaves under legal age?
I dont have the answer on what to do with convicted pedophiles but the whole chip thingy is like who did not see this coming to a human implementation.
I guess if I had a house full of kids my opine might be different.
We have public(govt)/private cams Everywhere now so add the chippee tracking system and it is total surveillance of all humans.
That even goes beyond the privacy of our own homes.
Person is home or not home.
Or perhaps down the road people who post on forums un PC stuff and dont physically put up a /sarc or /kidding tag.
The words are there so guilty.
When they started using the chips for doggies/cats and people were concerned it was like we have no intention of tracking humans. Hog wash ect ect...
Same with govt cams.
Be careful! If they can do this ex post facto to registered sex offenders, they’ll be able to do it to anyone. Get arrested for a DUI and you could end up with one of these implanted, for example.
***This sign-of-the-beast stuff will all sound great when they implement it. What’s the rub? First it will only be mandatory for sex offenders, drug dealers, mobsters. Then it will be convenient so you don’t have to carry around your credit card or ID, so it’ll be voluntary... until Revelation 13 rolls around and the only folks who will be against it will be sex offenders, drug dealers, mobsters, and those despised christians.
16He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
Washington State. There would be a couple of dozen people in Wenatchee walking around with these if this were in effect in the 90s.
Just wondering where they will implant the chip?
Sure. Of course they start with an extremely small and isolated segment of the population that everyone hates. Never mind that the government gets to define who exactly is in the category of “sex offender” and who isn’t. Also, if the people now forced to be “chipped” represent such a continued danger to society that they require this level of continued surveillance, why were they allowed out of prison in the first place? Either they’re not really a danger, or they shouldn’t have been let out. Either way, the government screwing something up (no surprise). Next step: the mentally disabled (can’t have them wandering about, after all; gotta “keep tabs” on ‘em).
Time to jump out of the pot, little frog.
