arack Obama: it is no longer essential to kill Osama bin Laden

Tom Baldwin in Washington

Barack Obama last night suggested that removing Osama bin Laden from the battlefield was no longer essential and that America's security goals could be achieved by merely keeping al-Qaeda "on the run".

"My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him," he said. "But if we have so tightened the noose that he's in a cave somewhere and can't even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America."

His comments, in a CBS interview last night, represent a significant watering down of the "dead or alive" policy pursued by President Bush since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. They also appear to contradict Mr Obama's own statements made in the election campaign.

As recently as October 7, in a presidential debate, Mr Obama said: "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority."

But yesterday, the President-elect adopted far less aggressive language, saying his "number one priority" was to protect America from further attack.

"I think that we have to so weaken [bin Laden's] infrastructure that, whether he is technically alive or not, he is so pinned down that he cannot function," he said. "And I'm confident that we can keep them on the run and ensure that they cannot train terrorists to attack our homeland."

since Rahmbo is in hiding away from the MSM
doesn’t it make you think he’s twice as guilty
in his participation of the Blago senate seat selling?

It’s too quiet for my comfort. My guess he’s hiding out
to keep his major involvement to a MSM minimum.

Hold on just a daggum minute there, hoss. protecting America is simply a 'goal'?

A GOAL?????

Man, that's your job, not just a goal. If you fail to protect the United States of America, then you have failed your job, not merely missed meeting a goal, you numskull.

NOW I'M ANGRY.

This idiot still isn't qualified, from a skills and experience POV, to be President. Forget the natural born citizen thing for a minute, Obama is a failure before he even takes the oath of office.

” This can’t be..

He is plagiarizing President Bush????

Looks like to me, unlike Kerry..who flipped around like a whirly bird during the election...Barry took notes and waited until he got the nomination to start flip-flopping.

(Although, if you listened to all the “Hope and Change” baloney from the beginning of his campaign, he flipped around several times.) “

And nary a word will be spoken by the MSM on this flip-flop until someone starts selling:

Obamas and Kerrys - a new line of footwear (flip flops)

Just like many other “ in the stands pseudo athletes” Obama is realizing that it’s very different when you are actually on the field and have to perform............

He’s taking the safe route, so his performance doesn’t look like another sub 50 bowling score............

As sad as all this is, we could generate some much needed fun by throwing all these broken promises into liberals faces and watch ‘em squirm. I am looking forward to seeing them be on the defense for the next four years.

As I mentioned when the words Al-Qaeda first spewed forth from ObamMessiah, that Al-Qaeda would be the one terrorist group NOT targeted by USA if Obama became President. This is a clear case of "taqiyya, the Muslin word for "Please don't throw me in that Brier Patch," or, if you prefer a very red herring.

that is not change.

Yes it is.

When Obama talks change, it means having the audacity to fluctuate your opinions as the need arises or as the political wind blows or as soon as he got elected.

As in how do we know if we have him confined to a cave somewhere if we do not know where he is? This guy is scary.

Knowing someone remains alive and knowing someones given location are two separate realities, both completely conceivably true.

There are numerous ways to conclude (even verify to a set date and hex-location) that someone is/was alive, without being able to pinpoint their location in any actionable sense.
