Police in Pennsylvania said six high school students are facing pornography charges after three girls sent photos of themselves via cell phones.
Greensburg police said the three female Greensburg-Salem High School students, ages 14 and 15, have been charged in Westmoreland County with manufacturing, disseminating or possessing child pornography after they allegedly took pictures of themselves -- two of the girls nude, the other semi-nude -- with their cell phones and sent them to other students, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Tuesday.

As heard on Chris Plante
i keep seeing these cases. altho i do not condone these teeny boppers taking nude pics of them selves, i don’t see why they’re charged with child porn for having pics of themselves.
And they'll be registered sex offenders and this will follow them for the rest of their lives.
But, hey, we'll teach 'em a lesson, right?
I agree. This is an issue for the parents, not the Govt.
I'm interested in getting a pornography plan for my phone, and I'd even concede to a youthful oriented one like described above, if that was all that was available.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm with AT&T and have a Samsung Blackjack if that matters, and I'd kind of not like to switch providers.
Thanks!
I agree. I think the laws need to be adjusted to reflect the fact that nude pictures are being taken and distributed by the underage subjects themselves.
its all in the name of criminalizing america....anything they can make up to charge you with and get you in the system.....
Exactly, this was not the intended targets of these laws when they were passed.
They’re going to need to hire more cops if they expect to keep up with today’s kids...
We are becoming Great Britain.
I can go to the mall in the summer time and get a “peep” show.
That's the plan.
It's easier to manage convicts than it is to manage citizens.
How we gonna keep them down on the farm after they get cell phones (and a new messiah)?
If the government were smart (huh?) , they would call a mandatory parent meeting and inform them of the situation complete with full sized (edited) photos that have been discovered. Send mailers home as well.
“These are your kids that are being photographed. These pictures make it to the web where pedophiles eagerly seek sick gratification at the expense of what your child thinks is harmless fun. Please go home and check your child's phone and computer. Please discuss the legal and social ramifications associated with this behavior. Please monitor and protect your children in the interest of their own safety, self respect and character.”
Let the parents deal with it and come down hard on repeat offenders with school discipline. If you have a chronic problem with a student, congrats, you may have just detected problem that will go into adulthood.
i also heard yesterday that the ones in receipt of the pics they girls sent out will also be charged with possession of child porn...........
It's entirely possible (I don't know anything about the laws in PA) that these boys could have sex with the girls and it wouldn't be statutory rape. If that's the case, then this goes beyond silly.
“i dont see why theyre charged with child porn for having pics of themselves.”
Look up the federal definition of child porn, it does not say anyone is exempt from “production of” the material.
You produce it, or posess it, it’s illegal.
The justice in this case will be in the sentencing, or even in what exact charges are brought up when the trial starts.
There have been cases of underage girls running porn pay sites, pay webcams in particular. With today’s technology it’s something a kid can do in her bedroom without parents knowing.
The problem is they’re distributing them. That they are exploiting themselves is irrelevent from a legal point of view. In any case, I’m sure the proud Murtha district democrats will attack the prosecuters for butting into family affairs.
I would imagine they'll have to prove the boy's asked the girls to send them the pix. Otherwise, the girls could send their pix to anybody and the recipient would be guilty of kiddie porn.
You're right, and parents can do more. Cell phone providers are in the business of keeping customers.
Option 1: My kids, when they're old enough to need a phone for my conveninece, get phones with no text and no picture service specifically to prevent the broad range of problems that includes this one. The main kids' application for text is to communicate with each other during class, which detracts from learning and is against school rules, and pictures are not a positive either. Anyone who doesn't want their kids doing this so easily can get those capabilities disabled. It's not perfect, kids can share phones, but it helps.
Option 2: Involved parenting - raise kids who wouldn't take inappropriate pictures of themselves or of others.
I chose to do both and succeeded at least on #1, I suspect on #2 also but I haven't yet had to find out.
Agreed but it's obvious the parents arent doing their job. These girls need to learn a lesson.
The logic follows that every teenaged boy in American should be charged with child molestation for, ummm, "molestimg" himself.
But your's and other's comments are right: They are just kids being kids. This shouldn't be considered a criminal problem. Especially not when it could mean they'd have to be registered sex offenders for the rest of their lives.
The problem is that most parents today have no clue about parental responsibility, morality, ethics or civil behavior. Explain to me how a responsible mother can take their child to a Monica Lewinsky book signing. Afterall, her only achievement was sucking off the President of the United States.
Parents should be monitoring their children’s behavior, but they’re too busy working or chlling out watching meaningless or worse “reality” programs. How else can one explain parents not knowing their child has assembled an arsenal of weopons in their bedroom or that the garage is being used to make bombs. Obviously parents are not monitoring what their kids are doing with cell phones and Blackberry’s or they would know what stuff their kids are getting into.
My oldest grandson, 13 years old, was given a cell phone by his parents to be used mainly in the event of an emergency. Personal calls are allowed but my son and his wife limit the number of these calls; and they can monitor who he is calling and who is calling him. Most parents can’t be bothered to do that.
Embarrassment will set in.
Ding ding ding.....winner!
The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.
Ayn Rand
They should be charged with gross stupidity.
These days, anything in digital form tends to get on the Net and stay there. If any of these girls grows up to be famous or a prominent professional (as unlikely as it currently seems), be assured the pictures will turn up to haunt them.
I see bad things in your fiture, dude....
I see bad things in your future, dude....
So, if they touch themselves, are they class 3 sex offenders for "fondling"?
absolutely and this should be their punishment.
Why do I have the image of the local police department and prosecutors pouring over the evidence?
Here is the stickler. If the girls had stripped naked in front of the boys for lets say $20,what law would have been broken if any?Why is taking a picture of yourself a crime? We must have laws restricting the use of cell phones to only those over the age of 18!
That is completely dumb. High school kids are now sex offenders for dirty photo messages.
Look up the federal definition of child porn, it does not say anyone is exempt from production of the material. You produce it, or posess it, its illegal.
THIS IS THE POLICE!
TAKE YOU HANDS OFF THE KEYBOARD AND PUT THEM BEHIND YOUR HEAD. EVERYBODY THAT HAS LOADED THIS POST TO THEIR COMPUTER IS HEREBY CHARGED WITH CHILD PORN!
bingo! but even if charges are dropped you are now in the system having been thru jail and court. they never take you out.
Then you'll be charged with possession of child porn, which is very illegal. Admitting that you want illegal 'youthful' pics of underage girls in a public forum- well that may bring a knock on your door by someone official looking.
wheres my prize...??....lol...
This actually is a neighboring school district...so I have been following it in our local media. According to the last report locally, PA law would regard the possession of the pix by the receiver as possession of kiddie porn; if they forwarded the pictures to anybody (any age) that would be distributing kiddie porn. The girls (in the photos) would also be guilty of possession and distribution. BUT...in PA the local District Attorney (for Westmoreland County) has some wiggle room...not a lot BUT this may not be life ruining (just financially ruining for the parents involved as they all lawyer up).
How do you text nude pictures?

Actually, this is the City of Greensburg and Salem Township in Westmoreland County. I live in this County, and it is pretty ‘red.’. Johnb Murtha is from the uber ‘blue’ Johnstown.
(Lol)...FReeping from work...I need to more carefully read my own posts :)
The parents should take away their computer and cell phones until they are able to pay for it themselves. That will get their attention. Embarrassment tends to wear off in due time.
