-43 Degree Temps Recorded In North Dakota
Much of the country is in winter's icy grip and forecasters said it won't be letting go anytime soon.
In Pollock, S.D., temperatures fell to a record-setting 47 below zero Thursday. Todd Moser works at a gas station where he said it took about 10 minutes to get the pumps working.
Record to near record lows were set all over the Midwest, including Aberdeen, S.D., at -42 degrees; Dubuque, Iowa, at -26 degrees; Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at -29 degrees. The -29 degrees at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was the coldest temperature ever recorded there breaking a record that had been held for 35 years, the city also reported a -67 degree wind chill. The coldest spot was Garrison, N.D., where air temperatures dipped to a bone-chilling -43 F degrees below zero.

Anybody up for a swim in Lake Superior ?
-26 right now in upstate NY
The government should do something...
It’s a balmy -5F in Springfield Mass this morning. Tropical weather compared to you. Oy vey!
I hate to throw water on the fire figuratively but earlier this week where I live it was the headlines, Alaska.
I had -37 temps for almost two weeks.
For the last three days its changed almost 80 degrees, at this very minute 3:23 AM its 48 above just north of Wasilla, Alaska.
I am laughing at Obama, Palins revenge!
Didn’t you hear...Mother Nature asked for a bailout.
In the case of the government, nothing is often better then something. They are about to pass Climate Change legislation that will attempt to prevent Global Warming. How do you prevent Global Warming ? By cooling the planet obviously.
They're working on massive geoengineering projects to cool the planet.
Somebody has to stop this nonsense. Seriously.
No where near record cold, but cold enough.
"Colder than a well digger's ass," as my grandmother used to say.
Al Gore must be giving a speech somewhere.
“That damn Global Warming strikes again. /sarc”
It’s Climate Change...you’re causing all kinds of weather abnormalities with your careless use of energy, etc.
Hope you’re proud of yourself.
/s off :)
If the earth is in a cooling phase (and I think it is)...nothing good can come of it. Shorter growing periods...higher heating costs...etc.
These records we are seeing now occur every year...but look for them to increase in frequency over the next few years. Can't wait to see the climo averages for January.

-8 here in Pittsburgh.
Can you play football in - 8 F weather ? At some point the football is gonna be harder then a brick. Wind chills also can cause nasty frostbite.
I’m waiting for TIME and NEWSWEEK to claim they predicted global cooling back in the 70’s.

I would most definitely agree, I had almost 3 feet of snow 48 hours ago, its all gone, school has been canceled because the roads are impassable, in the winter we create ice roads since a lot of areas here are rural and the gravel roads are periodically paved and left as ice roads which is far easier to drive on, of course we sand it a little not much.
Mostly Alaskans all use winter studded tires, these tires are probably banned in the lower 48, and yes they wear out our roads, often the roads when they are dry look like ruts and fill with water.
I’m about to leave my house to drive into Wasilla, I’m hoping I don’t get bogged down in the mush.
Excerpts - It was 48 below in Fargo, North Dakota, where unprotected fingers could suffer frostbite in 60 seconds, CNN meteorologist Rob Marciano said.
"If you live east of the Mississippi River, the temperature at mid-morning may be the best you'll get," Marciano added.
"When it gets this cold, your hands are just in pain when doing something as simple as carrying bags of groceries from the car to the apartment."
They were actually reporting a lot of car accidents in Alaska because the snow thawed then froze again. Watch out for Black Ice.

It's global WARMING you non believing heathens!
It's global WARMING!
It's global WARMING!
It's global WARMING!
AND RESPECT MUH AUTHORITAH!
I agree. Also, frostbite, frozen engine blocks, Diesel Gas problems will be occurring more frequently in the lower 48 states during winter. The next Arctic blast this winter may travel deeper south since this one seemed to be held up by the Great Lakes, which are no doubt cooling significantly as we type.
Woke up to -29 just south of the Twin Cities. We have been below zero for over 77 hours......
I guess I should stop complaining about my 30 degree weather, uh?
I have no less than 8 HID lamped lights I can turn on, all 4 headlights, 2 driving (amber) and 2 fog lights, they are the more powerful HID that I retrofitted.
Each lamp is the equivalent of a 120 watt halogen but has a better color output, I designed these specifically for Alaska winter driving, my most unique set of lamps are 64 extremely high power Ultraviolet LED emitters that I use in white-out driving conditions, the light though short range and not very bright will cut right through blowing snow, it does not reflect back, the truckers use blue covered spotlights as many as 20 on the big rigs that routinely drive to Prudhoe Bay, works for them!
Well, I could but I'm not sure about the Steelers & the Ravens.
Seriously though, I think it's supposed to warm up into the 20's by Sunday PM. In my living room it's going to be about 70.
Colder then a witchs tit here in Harrisburg, Pa .
9 degrees but the suns out it might climb into the teens!
Now that's funny. Last year I think Green Bay kicked off at -2 F. One of the sports casters set out a bottle of water, and 15 minutes later, by the time they were done talking, it was frozen solid.
it’s been in the 80’s here.
i went swimming.
did 160 staircases in my swim trunks.
si.
It’s -10 right now but we’re expecting a high of 10 above today here in southern Mi.
I know the feeling in So Cal. Just 3 weeks ago however we were literally freezing our buts off. Now we have High pressure generating offshores. I am not complaining. The Pacific however has developed another La Nina.
Breathing hard can be dangerous, too (frost damage to the lungs).
Surely you’re aware of the NFL championship game of 1967, I think. Dec 31, Green Bay, WI, temperature -16 degrees!!!!
It’s 36 here in downtown Austin with a forcasted high of 55-60 degrees......sorry ,my fellow Americans freezing up north....
12* here in Rock Hill SC, this morning..
It was so cold I saw a dog stuck to a telephone pole
Boom....tis
That was the Ice Bowl ? Back before some of these guys were making a million a year.
Bingo. Watch footage of that game if you can. Amazing. No cold weather gear — most everybody wearing SHORT SLEEVES!!!! Sixteen below!!!!
Excerpt - Waterloo set a daily record low for Jan. 16 of 34 degrees below zero early Friday. It also ties the all-time record low for winter set on March 1, 1962.
Thats an ALL TIME RECORD low tie for Waterloo Iowa.
At a reporting station at Coggon, north of Cedar Rapids, the mercury hit -40 degrees today.
