Obama Named Gun Salesman of the Year

Obama Named Gun Salesman of the Year

Barack Obama's election has definitely stimulated one segment of the economy:

Outdoor Wire Names Obama "Gun Salesman of the Year"

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — In recognition of the unprecedented demand for firearms by nervous consumers, The Outdoor Wire, the nation’s largest daily electronic news service for the outdoor industry, has named President-elect Barack Obama its “Gun Salesman of the Year”. With the selection, Outdoor Wire publisher Jim Shepherd says it is time the firearms industry recognizes the fact that without President-elect Obama’s frightening consumers into action, the firearms industry might be suffering the same sort of business slumps that have befallen the automotive and housing industries.

“It’s credit where credit is due,” says Shepherd, “Mr. Obama has consistently voted against individual rights to firearms, appointed a re-tread Clinton administration full of gun banners, and made it plain to anti-gun groups that despite what he might say to the contrary, he’s on their side.” That history, along with the unquestioned support of anti-gun organizations, Shepherd says, has spooked consumers into a buying frenzy for firearms that could be outlawed in another Assault Weapons Ban.

“Manufacturers are months behind on orders for semi-automatic pistols, AR-style rifles, and anything with so-called ‘high-capacity magazines’,” Shepherd says, “buyers we’ve surveyed across the country seem to have a single explanation for their rush to purchase firearms – Obama.”

“The buying panic is not limited to people you might be described as aficionados or even ‘gun nuts’. Recently, I was in a gun store when a gentleman came and said he’d never wanted to own a gun before, but wanted to get one while he still could.”

Since the November Presidential election, firearms sales have been at unprecedented levels. For December 2008 the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) recorded a twenty-four percent increase in background checks for 2008 (1,523,426) over December 2007 (1,230,525).

This follows a forty-two percent (42%) increase in November 2008, the highest number of NICS checks in the system’s history. Those FBI background checks are required under federal law for all individuals purchasing firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers. In other words, gun sales have never been better.

Sales are so good that on Tuesday, January 6, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) issued a notice to all federal firearms licensees that “an unprecedented increase in demand for ATF Form 4473” had run supplies low enough that dealers were temporarily given permission to photocopy the form until supplies caught up with demand. Completion of a form 4473 is required whenever a federal firearms licensee sells a firearm.

Does anyone have a source for raw numbers on the increase of gun sales through-out the USA? Percentage increases over previous periods (monthly, quarterly etc.) would be best. I would like to see how much of an affect the president-elect has had on weapon sales.

Ditto.

I'm looking too, can't find one online. The local shop has 1 marked-up way too much.

e-mail I got, FYI

“My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, one gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns.”

You can still find the high dollar versions... but get ready to pay $1200.00 to $1800.00. Barrett, Colt and DPMS still have some $$$$ models available. Ammo is going up $100.00 per thousand every 3 to 4 weeks.

Here ya go, JoMa. Bureau of Justice Statistics, they publish these annually. I didn't search deeply enough to see if 2008 has been published yet, but it may be given the numbers reported in the article. This report is for 2007.

Note table 9 - over 3 million denials of firearms sales because the person being checked is an illegal resident.

As of this morning, SGCUSA has (28) DPMS Panther AP4’s for $999.95. Although DPMS is a little on the entry level side, it's still a decent purchase considering the current buying climate.

I’m wondering how many of those are for future “cover”...

Having a copy of an ad that shows you selling your firearms would go a long way to “I sold ‘em all. Don’t have a one.”
when the thugs show up at your door.

I suppose anything is possible, but I think it is doubtful.

If you scan those auctions, you will find that the vast majority of sellers on GunBroker are licensed FFL’s who sell on Gunbroker regularly, and mostly established Gun Shops across the country at that. They just see it as another market in addition to their local market.

There is a plus. If you buy a gun on Gunbroker, yes you will pay some shipping, but if the seller is out-of-state, there is no sales tax on the transaction.

Look, first off, most of the American people put this Marxist in office. This means America is moving toward socialism. Look at the level of taxation and corruption they put up with now.

So, if Marxist Obama gives the order to strike the 2nd amendment the majority might agree with it. I'm sure the poor economy will give rise to violent crime and that may be used by Obama to make more gun bans.

However, there are still some boys left in the military that wouldn't take such an order and my faith is in them.

What do the following have in common?

Hitler , whom murdered millions of Jews and other ethnics I think for a grand total of over 12 million (battle deaths not included).

Stalin, whom murdered around 20 million of his countrymen.

Mao, the winner at 60 million murders is Mao.

Pol Pot, 3 million murdered is the winner on absolute percentages, about 33% of the population was eliminated.

They all took the firearms away from the public before they executed all that stood in the way of transforming their country into a SOCIALIST PARADISE.

Please note that Nazi was an acronym for the National Socialist Party. Yes, Hitler was a socialist but the media always claims he was a right winger.

Well, FFL holders are not able to work the “I sold them all” angle. All their sales are recorded.

The ‘rats want to have all private sales recorded for obvious reasons.

Methinkts the numbers of guns sold would be much higher if all people in all states were actually allowed to buy the guns they want.

Suppression of the 2A is absolutely disgusting.

All sales on Gunbroker are “recorded”, even private seller sales, because the only way one can legally ship firearms is to ship them to an FFL where the buyer lives, who then does the 4473 paperwork when the buyer picks up the gun.

The only exception would be if you bought from a private seller on Gunbroker, who lives in your area and you could pick up the gun in person.

Exactly.

Consider this from Atlas Shrugged:

"Then you will see the rise of the men of the double standard--the men who live by force, yet count on those who live by trade to create the value of their looted money--the men who are the hitchhikers of virtue. In a moral society, these are the criminals, and the statutes are written to protect you against them. But when a society establishes criminals-by-right and looters-by-law--men who use force to seize the wealth of disarmed victims--then money becomes its creators' avenger. Such looters believe it safe to rob defenseless men, once they've passed a law to disarm them.”

That book is scarly similar to what's happaning now.

“So if Marxist Obama gives the order to strike the 2nd amendment, the majority might agree with it.” Although the MSM will certainly portray the public “mood” as favoring this brand of “common sense gun control”—that is, doing away with our right to keep and bear arms—I don’t believe the American people will go for it. On the contrary, such a move on the part of the left will spark a revolution in the country. Fat, dumb, lazy, misguided, ignorant people will watch through deer-in-headlight eyes as their money is confiscated by Big Brother, but not their guns. At least we had better pray this will be the case.

All you need to buy is a lower receiver. That’s considered “the gun” as far as the ATF is concerned, since that’s where the issue serial # is.

You can hang all the other parts on it later.

Sorry, but your reasoning is wrong. The majority of Americans are not socialist and certainly not marxist. The reason Bozo was elected is because of an UNINFORMED public via the MSM who lied and cheated to make sure no one who didn't make an effort to find out on their own knew what kind of an a**hat Bozo really is.

The majority of voters also DO NOT want gun control, that has been proven over and over. The MSM carried his water for him and lied their tails off about his stance on guns, although his record is there for all to see, many don't make the effort and rely on the MSM to inform them. This is the vast danger of the media being communists, they control the information. That is also the beauty of the internet and why they want to squelch it.

If they already had the majority actually converted there would be no need to lie, no need to try and ban talk radio and no reason to try and censor the internet. No, we need to get the word out about the Bozo and what he really believes, after that he won't have a chance, the problem is actually getting the word out over the screeching of the MSM. Many have blinded themselves to what he really is choosing to believe he is the savior our country if not the world!

My dear freeper friend, we are indeed moving in a socialist direction. This is the age of disinformation and the re engineering of history, but people just don't care.

Your point, “although his record is there for all to see,” illustrate my point of how passive and careless American people have become. When people become this passive you can do whatever you want with them including taking their guns.

Here is how I see we are moving to the left.

From local to national politics party leaders are running Republican candidates that are more and more pro-choice, big spenders and basically off the mark on the party platform. Great example in the last Illinois Gov race.

By the way, the left is just getting further left. Look at JFK. He would be a Republican today. Today's Democrats would have been considered communists by yesterday's Democrats.

Did you listen to the hearings with big oil when Maxine Waters talked about nationalizing oil? Nobody blinked an eye. Why not? Why was she not called out on that?

Because the American people just don't care. The Obama smoke and mirrors was able to get a Marxist elected. If the media can get a Marxist in office what the heck makes anyone think the media is going to fight for the second amendment?

The media is a tool for perception control, it's not about truth. Far from it. This is why Israel, and rightfully so, banned all media in Gaza.
