Obama names Elena Kagan as Solicitor General
President-elect Obama has named Elena Kagan, Harvard Law School dean, as Solicitor General.
Kagan will be the first woman to serve permanently in this important post, which is tasked with conducting "all litigation on behalf of the United States in the Supreme Court, and to supervise the handling of litigation in the federal appellate courts. Kagan previously served in the White House during the Clinton administration, as Associate Counsel to the President, Deputy Assistant the the President for Domestic Policy, and Deputy Director of the Domestic Policy Council. (Emphasis mine) In an email to the law school community, Kagan wrote, "I have accepted this nomination because it offers me the opportunity, working under the leadership of the President-elect and his nominee for Attorney General, Eric Holder, to help advance this nation's commitment to the rule of law at what I think is a critical time in our history."
Related: Also note-worthy is that Dawn Johnsen, former legal director for NARAL, was named the new head of the Office of Legal Counsel. So we got another high-level female appointee - one with a strong reproductive rights background to boot! Sweet.
Dear God, this woman is to enforce WHAT laws?
Yep.....not at all “centrist” as the mushy media was predicting. It’s NO surprise to me. ;-/
Kagan brings new meaning to SG’s “mourning” coat.
I guess that Mike Nifong turned him down.
Nullifies all state and federal laws that interfere with access to abortion before viability as determined by the abortion provider. It would overturn partial birth abortion bans, eliminate parental notification, and force taxpayers to fund abortion.
FOCA will invalidate all pro-life laws that the Supreme Court has upheld since Roe.
FOCA creates a fundamental right to abortion.
FOCA would repeal the Hyde Amendment, allowing unlimited federal funding for abortion.
FOCA would overturn all the commonsense restrictions that Missouri has in place.
FOCA would invalidate state and federal laws protecting women and health care providers, including: Full disclosure to the patient (ultrasound of the baby, information about pain inflicted on the baby or possible complications to the mother).
Parental notification or consent for minors seeking abortion
Restrictions based on fetal viability allowing for abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy
Protections for doctors and nurses who decline to commit or assist in an abortion
Protections for religiously affiliated hospitals and public hospitals that do not perform abortions
Exclusions for abortion coverage from health care plans of federal employees
And as for the rights of the unborn? Zero, zilch, nada! But the Almighty knows the score down here.
I think someone needs to set 0 straight on what change actually means. It doesn’t mean history repeating itself. If America (well, the crazy half) wanted the Clinton administration part deux, they would have voted for Hilary.
the ACLU is smiling brightly.
“Kagan previously served in the White House during the Clinton administration, as Associate Counsel to the President, Deputy Assistant the the President for Domestic Policy, and Deputy Director of the Domestic Policy Council.”
In other words, she’s not a litigator. I wish her good luck.
Obama most immediate left wing politics will be in the arena of social issues first and foremost the abortion issue. There is no issue that can make the left wing lunatics happier than giving them more abortion on demand. Human nature at its worst.
By this appointment......is there any doubt what his Supreme Court picks will be?
This is pretty much what I expected. Obama’s first order of business is to pursue domestic policy—which means extremist abortion on demand with no limits. And destruction of the economy so it can be rebuilt on Communist lines. And no doubt extreme gay rights, etc.
Meantime, he has put a few reasonably competent people in charge of the military, in hopes that he won’t get involved in any foreign adventures until he has succeeded in wrecking the country internally and gotten his brown shirt organization up and running. Then he can get involved in his international projects.
But the first order of business is unlimited baby killing. So all his top lawyers are baby killers.
I am amazed that Obambi thinks this is progressive. It’s anything but. He is going to find himself going backwards pretty fast.
