TORONTO - Barack Obama appears to come by his nickname honestly.
Despite stepping into the U.S. presidency at perhaps the most difficult juncture in decades, No Drama Obama seems as unruffled - and as youthful - now as he did nearly two years ago when he announced he was seeking the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
Except, that is, for the small matter of his hair.
Since last summer, Obama's once jet-black hair has gone grey at a startling clip.

Is this a bit of lese-majeste , to intimate that That One might not be free from the stresses and strains of mortal men?
Yes, and Grecian formula, applied regularly on a campaign trail can also turn grey hair black.
maybe it was gray all along and he was [stopped] using grecian formula for men.
Yes, stress can turn hair grey. And Zinc supplements can reverse the grey. Dunno why that is, but it is.
I suppose the stress of deciding which puppy to purchase was too much for him. By the way...has he reached a decision yet?
This happens to every president-elect. Once they tell you the Big Secret, all that happy-clappy campaign bull goes out the window.
And it’s not just his hair. Notice how much more serious his demeanor has become since his first briefing. Whatever it is they tell you must be a real humdinger.
I am pretty sure he kept it black early on to look young and hip, and then abruptly let it go more gray in the general election when he wanted to appear experienced and wise to get the older voters.
I've always been amazed at the before and after pictures of the President.
THIS one is going to be very dramatic!
Compare pictures of Ronald Reagan to Clinton and 0bama and it is obvious that stress has less impact on greying hair than the slinging of BS does.
Precisely. No more coloring to look that much younger than McPain. Watch for the tics and wringles in six months.
does anyone have pictures of clinton’s widely fluctuation hair tones?
someone told me he was getting a “shitz-a-poo”... ;)
Remember the hair dye scene?
Wait till he actually has to make a - wait for it - decision.

He voted “present.”
Why do you think GWB abandoned free market and used government to take over the banks and insurance companies? The losses and potential losses from over leveraging by Wall Street threatens to destroy the social stability of the US. That info is withheld by the government, because if the people knew the real numbers, there would be a run on our banks. The bailout is a holding action until the markets improve or someone finds a financial solution. BHO just learned of the real numbers, plus other pressing issues such as terrorist threats and etc. I think he knows that he did not do himself a favor by winning the election in 2008.
You got that right. Once he started getting the sooper sekrit briefings right before the election, his demeanor totally changed. When he gave his victory speech on election night, he looked freaked out, not happy. That must be some serious crap that they unloaded on him.
I guess the stress of avoiding tough questions and being adored by massive, worshipful crowds can wear a man down. Poor guy /HEAVY sarc
Or perhaps this is merely more evidence of a style-over-substance administration: they’re purposely greying his hair to give the impression that he’s working hard.
Very Clintonesque. How long before he dons reading glasses, ala Slick Willy?
My wife had some gray but after chemo she now has all brown hair. Maybe they ought to find out what exactly caused that and market it.
Naw, it is Gillette’s new “dial some gravitas” hair color for men.
Hair dressers magic. He needed o look a little older to assume this lofty job.
“I suppose the stress of deciding which puppy to purchase was too much for him.”
Yeah his hair did go gray really fast. Kind of reminds me of the black chick in Omega Man. Near the end of the movie, she went shopping in the daylight, and by nighttime her hair went from black to white as the zombie virus overcame her immune system.
I think he has narrowed it down to a choice between a bluetick and a redbone.
If that clowns hair turns gray, it’s not from stress. He hates the US and couldn’t care less what happens to it or it’s people.
Dontyaknow that the risen Christ had His hair described as white and woolly? It’s just a natural progression toward messiah-hood. /sarc
Probably. But so can make-up, especially when an young actor is being made to look "mature."
Thanks for making sure we all noticed, Yahoo!
LOL...that has to be the toughest decision he's ever made.
Yeah, he was courting the MTV crowd, needed to be grey-free!
Zinc is extremely important - it plays a role in immune function, muscle gain and retention, male sexual health, clotting, healing functions, etc - it is a critical enzyme cofactor, and also plays a role in cell signaling. A deficiency can manifest itself in so many different ways that diagnosis is often not reached until a wide collection of symptoms develops. Premature graying is one such symptom (but obviously there are numerous other potential causes). Another is hair loss.
Zinc can be the limiting factor in the production of testosterone in your body (and the inhibition of aromatase from converting testosterone into estrogen) - it may be the case that problems associated with low serum testosterone levels can be solved with zinc supplementation. Directly related to testosterone production, zinc is used in the production of luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones as well.
I take 20 mg per day of zinc monomethionine (high bioavailability - when supplementing, you have to exceed the RDI for most trace minerals because the bioavailability of the naked compounds is much lower compared to the bioavailability of the compounds when contained in foods) PLUS 300 micrograms of copper (reason being that you need to maintain a proper ratio of zinc to copper, or risk developing or exacerbating a host of neurological problems, for starters). Stopped my hairloss in its tracks.
a friend was working at a restaurant that was held up by men with machine guns, the next day his hair had turned grey
Reminds me of the Dilbert cartoon when the boss explains why a person got promoted, “He has executive hair; we think it will turn silver.”
I think he was dying it, then let it go. To make a statement that, first, he was young and cool, and second, that he was mature enough to be elected.
Just a thot. Those east coast elites are big on the botox, facials and so forth.
I’d have to say yes.
It’s probably the truth about Roswell....
How would you feel if they told you they had dragged a ticking suitcase nuke out of Grand Central Station and defused it in a milk truck on 42nd street, on a Monday morning? You would be passing 2 by 4’s.
Now he realizes that he might want Dick Cheney on his speed dial.
It’s funny, even my liberal friends are now careful to mention to me that of course Obama can’t fix things quickly. Kind of a change of tune.
Aw dang, you went and answered it. I was going to write in to Mythbusters and see if they'd try this out. ;-)
Not sure how they'd test it, but most of their confirming or busting of myths and urban legends seems to involve shooting something; blowing something up; drinking; or (poorly) remote controlled full-sized cars. Maybe they just need to put their producers in front of the camera once, I'll bet they're gray already.
My Mom had the same thing happen. It was straight and gray before chemo, then when it came back in it was brown and curly. It went gray and straight again tho.
Mine's been going grey since I was 20. Only thing I've smoked is tires. Now approaching 40, the grey has a slight lead in land ownership, but the brown is not conceding defeat.
Anyone have that “Presidentin’ is HARD” graphic?
When my mom died very unexpectedly, my hair all fell out, then it grew back silvery-white. (I was then 32 years old.) That was the least of my worries at that time, though.
Is it possible to produce this particular type of graying by using hair coloring? If so, then my bet is that rather than his hair having started to gray, which he concealed by dyeing it black during the campaign, instead, he deliberately artificially grayed it in order to gain some gravitas.
Just a thought.
