Several Inaugural Balls Cancelled Due to Lack of Interest
Tuesday, January 20, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/20/2009 11:17:46 AM PST by kristinn

The euphoria over the inauguaration of Barack Hussein Obama appears to have its limits as several unofficial inaugural balls have been cancelled due to lack of ticket sales, while at least one ball has slashed ticket prices.

The Washington Times and The Washington Post reported on the troubles some of the inaugural festivities are having bringing in celebrants. High ticket prices in a tough economy are being blamed for the troubles, however the $10,000 per ticket Creative Coalition ball sold out weeks ago.

Among the inaugural events cancelled were the the D.C. Inaugural Ball at the Old Post Office Pavillion, a Georgetown party hosted by Luke Russert, the son of the late NBC News icon Tim Russert, The Veterans Ball at the St. Regis Hotel and the American Music Ball at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

The People's Ball at the Grand Hyatt cut its ticket prices by $100, from $350 to $250.

Other balls apparently had trouble footing the bill for their performers and have either cancelled acts or brought in substitutes from cancelled balls.

"Obama's barely in office and already folks are getting ripped off."

You can now own a piece of history, for just $49.95 you can buy this crappy worthless coin that isn't worth the cheap metal it's stamped out of.

Have you seen this stupid commercials??? Montel Williams is a snake oil salesman on one of them.

The cost of attending these balls is the problem.

Not that it's too much, just that they cost anything at all.

Things are supposed to be free in Obama's America.

If America is so hurting, why isnt this money going to feed the poor and give medical aide to the sick?

Instead of posting videos on YouTube pledging(lying) to plant trees and clean up cat boxes, maybe these Obi-pawns should actually be making a difference with the cash they are all to willing to blow on a party.

I didn’t really see the whole coronation, but I can’t stop wondering about what cost the reported $170 Million? The ceremony wasn’t that fancy, Aretha Franklin (whom I used to greatly respect) should not only NOT be paid, she should pay a fine for what she did to the song.

Where WAS the $170M spent?

Is anyone surprised?

First it was “4 million in DC”

than 3 million to visit for

then - Maybe 1.5 million... or less. Even the talking tubers are saying “an estimated” crowd of “over a million”.

These things tanked because of Million Man March Math...

Nobody came to the party.

I saw that commercial, and I started laughing because there really are people who are going to be stupid enough to shell out $50 for four coins who’s total face value is only worth $2.00 because the set has a silver dollar, a half dollar and two quarters IIRC.

If it comes with a certificate of authenticity, I bet it says “YOU’RE A SUCKER” in bold red letters.

The coins com with the same kind of Certificate of Authenticity as Barry's Birth Certificate.

Yep, we certify that these are "authentic" painted coins, that cost 80 times their face value. (But don't try putting them in a vending machine.)

Yes, Obama's birth certificate has been "authenticated." (We won't tell you what it says, though.)

Good grief! It was a joke, for crying out loud.

What is wrong with people today? It must be a dark pall over the US. For once, I'm damn glad not to be home. I've been getting a heavy dose of snippiness on FR today just for trying to be lighthearted.

Sheesh.

Well, y'all aren't going to stop me. I've even got a psycho co-worker who's been trying to drag me down into her weird mind games the past couple of weeks. If she can't succeed, neither can anyone on here.

My guess is the crowds were low

ALL 0bama's crowds have been vastly overstated by the media.

It is possible these days to do a quick sanity check of crowd size using Google Earth which has measurement tools that enable you to get an accurate square footage of the size of the crowd if you can get aerial shot to compare it with.

For instance, his estimated crowd of 65,000 - 70,000 in Portland Oregon didn't even fill the park that could only hold about 32,000 max. So you can immediately debunk their figures.

Same thing in Berlin, The crowd was actually between 35,000 and 45,000 - not the 200,000 that they claimed.
