AS PRESIDENT George W Bush prepares to step down after eight years in the White House, the writer and activist Naomi Wolf has hit out at the damage his administration has done to the American constitution. In a stunning indictment, she likened steps taken by Mr Bush to those employed by Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini and other dictators of the 20th century.
She said: “There are ten classic steps dictators or would-be dictators always take when they wish to close down an open society. And each of those ten steps is now underway in the United States today.”
Ms Wolf, political polemicist and best-selling author of The Beauty Myth, was in London last week to promote her new documentary, The End of America, to be released on DVD on January 19 on the eve of Barack Obama’s inauguration. In it she draws detailed parallels between the behaviour of the Bush administration and that of dictatorships in Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, fascist Italy, Communist China and Pinochet’s Chile.
“These 10 tactics – invoking an external and internal threat; establishing secret prisons; developing a paramilitary force like Blackwater; surveilling ordinary citizens; infiltrating citizens’ groups; arbitrarily detaining and releasing citizens; targeting key individuals; restricting the press; casting criticism as espionage and dissent as treason; and subverting the rule of law – enabled Hitler, Mussolini and Pinochet to turn once-democartic nations into totalitarian regimes ruled by fear.”

I guess what it comes down to is - some people believe that the militant Islamic force growing in the world has the power to destroy our way of life, and others believe that they are nothing more than a nuisance, or worse, see them as a myth cooked up by our own government, which is really tragic.
And yet - these same people - are going to be completely dumbfounded when the very ones they support - Obama and Hillary - unleash a REAL paramilitary police force after New York is hit a THIRD time in 2010. Most of those 10 steps are underway in every society on the face of the earth, and have been since there was government and a public that “needs” to be controlled , silenced, or investigated. And THESE ten steps were only
institutionalized to the degree they have been because of 9-11 and the presence still (and it will be growing) of Islamic Jihadists and their sympathizers in our midst.
Of course, those who downplay the threat try to make a case
that we wouldn’t have been attacked anyway. Ignoring the fact of the dozens of cells and their planners who have been thwarted and broken up. This is an unfortunate part of
the Bush Administration’s “just doin’ our jobs” ethos, which never saw the need to publicize any of their successes while they were occurring.
So who does Naomi think the Nicolai Carpathia-like Obama, bringing us fascism on while riding a dark horse, supported by the same groups that brought HITLER to power, like slobberingly adoring media elites, the nouveau rich, and Socialists?
