SAN FRANCISCO Steve, a health care worker in his 30s, had been told more than once that he had been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection. So when it happened again, he was not upset even though this time he learned about it through an anonymous online postcard, e-mailed by a man with whom he had had sex.
What was important was that I was being notified that there was a possibility that I may have been exposed to syphilis, said Steve, who asked that his last name be withheld to protect his privacy.
The Internet has made it much easier to connect for sexual hookups. In response, public health officials have been exploring ways to harness the online world for conducting safe-sex education and preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases by alerting people exposed to them.
The e-card, which allows the sender to select the disease involved and includes links to public health sites and services, is part of that strategy.
Notifying the person exposed to a sexually transmitted infection is the critical piece in preventing further spread, said Dr. Susan Blank, New York Citys assistant health commissioner for sexually transmitted disease. And as the reach of the Internet expands for use in finding instant sex partners, were using that technology as part of the solution.

I know I shouldn’t post but........... SICK......
A health care worker having promiscuous gay sex waits until he gets an anonymous postcard before assuming that he might have syphilis? Good Lord!
Isn't that just swell.
Steve was quoted as saying "Ah hell, I already have seven sexually transmitted diseases, so I don't get too worked up about getting a couple more"
... because you care enough to give the very best.
Sick AND freakin’ disgusting. Now Hussein wants to unlimit the homos from screwing up the “don’t tell” policy.
I saw the results of a study that concluded 70% of all gay men were born that way..the other 30% just got sucked into it.
First, the guy is totally unfazed at being exposed to syphilis. No big deal. I got an ecard about it. That is NOT the attitude most people would have.
Second, this disease ridden (having sex with filthy diseased folks) pervert is working in the healthcare industry. And exposing everyone he touches to the possibility of infection.
Third, for all of the above, gross.
There’s a “Hallmark moment” in here, somewhere.
So true...our bases and ships are about to become bath houses! UGH.
Your nurse friend is the real victim of this perversion. Don’t ever let them tell you their private behavior doesn’t hurt or affect anyone else.
Says a lot about their mental state, doesn’t it.
This guy is only a couple depressive moments away from bug chasing....
“Roses are red;
Violets are blue;
I put some bad stuff;
There where you poo!
At least they’re exchanging email addresses and maybe names, not just intimate bodily fluids.
Remember how Wal-Mart is now starting to offer medical clinic outpatient services? Well, how so ever it was done, and paid for, it would be a grand idea if they offered simple VD screening as well, thrown in at little cost. They might pay for it with follow up treatments.
The effect on the public health would be huge. One blood sample that looked for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, BV, chancroid, Donovanosis, LGV, NGU, staphylococcal infection, herpes, hepatitis, HTLV 1, 2, HPV, MCV, trichomoniasis and others.
With just a decade, many of these diseases could be close to being wiped out in the US, or at least severely diminished, as well as preventing secondary diseases and damage, and protecting infants from congenital transmission.
I think Moses is just about to throw down the Ten Commandments... AGAIN... some segments of society is/are going down the tubes.
Let’s see...he gets an ANONYMOUS e-card from somebody he’s ALREADY had sex with...but he’s concerned about his “privacy.”
Isn’t that like putting on the bullet-proof vest on after you’ve been shot...
