Boy Scouts in Dundee will be able to pledge allegiance to ‘Allah’ and drop the traditional oath to God and Queen, says the Scout Association in Scotland.
The Association has given its backing to starting Dundee’s 45th troop which will specifically target Muslim boys.
In the oath Muslim recruits will be able to replace the name ‘God’ with “Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful”, and pledge to honour “the country in which I am now living” instead of the Queen.
The Scout Association is already open to all faiths and Muslim boys are currently part of existing troops, but according to the Association they are aware of some who might be opposed to the traditional pledge.
A spokesman for the Scout Association Drummond Cox claims the change “represents a tweak rather than a major change”.
He said: “The Scouts may have been a Christian organisation originally but we have long been non-denominational and inclusive.

Baden-Powell would have approved of putting Allah in it, he was Ok with such cultural adaptations. Remember that in. his day Scouting became a huge international movement. Moslem boy scouts aren’t a new thing, neither are Buddhist or Hindu scouts. There are dozens of national variations I think.
He would certainly have made them keep the Queen in it though.
And I’m not sure that he would have approved of religiously segregated troops in Britain.
Scouts Honor means nothing now.

Really?? That is not how I remember it. When I was looking into going for my "God and Country" badge, there were different badges for different denominations and religions, including Islam.
The BSA did not care which God you worshiped, just that you worshiped one (or many for that matter) The only boys turned away were Atheists.
They ought to include references to five or six dozen virgins, and the blood of infidels, while they're at it...

Agreed, nor would he have approved of the many ethnically segregated Troops which are here in the U.S. either.
Scouting is an international movement.
