Demi And The Dimwits Take "The Pledge" (This Pledge A Bad Act)
Boston Herald ^ | January 22, 2009 | Michael Graham

Posted on 01/22/2009 4:19:00 AM PST by suspects

President Barack Obama has an unusual ability to bring out the best in his enemies and the worst in his friends.

Which is why former foe John McCain was leading the push for a Senate vote on Hillary Clinton as secretary of state; and why the most disturbing Obama video you’ll see this year was just posted by his biggest fans.

Demi Moore and her boy toy Ashton Kutcher have put together a YouTube video called “The Pledge,” in which a cast of celebrities and semi-celebs pledge their service to Obama.

Literally.

The video starts harmlessly enough, with Hollywoodies like Cameron Diaz, Laura Linney and the like making various innocuous pledges of good behavior. They range from the serious (“I pledge to promote mental health education”) to the silly (“I pledge to never give the finger while driving again”) to the slightly icky (Jason Bateman pledges to stop flushing the toilet after urinating. House guests, you’ve been warned).

So when rocker Anthony Kiedis says “I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama,” it seems humorously over the top.

But then Moore stares intently into the camera and announces “I pledge to be a servant to our president,” a pledge echoed by all the celebs who promise to become “the change that we seek.”

A pledge of allegiance to Obama? I don’t care if you’re a Republican, Democrat or a Vegan Evangelical Anarchist - that’s just plain creepy.

It’s also odd coming from a group of people who’ve previously shown little enthusiasm for pledging allegiance to our flag, much less a previous president.

Seriously - if a dozen college conservatives had lined up on TV to pledge their service to George W. Bush, wouldn’t there be an HBO documentary on “America’s BusHitler Youth” by the end of the week?

None...

I believe it was Ayn Rand that said, ...if there is anyone more despicable than a tyrant, it is a voluntary slave.

My favorite is the guy from “Without a trace” who pledges to “Be more aware.” He must have agonized for hours over that bold statement, then called his agent to ask him what he should pledge. What a pile of steaming dung!

I saw Eva Longoria Parker participated in the ad-I thought it was dumb because whe already has a charity, Eva’s Heroes, which funds after school programs for mentally disabled children.

She’s had it for years, so why take a pledge for something you do of your own volition?

I wonder if these Hollywood luminaries and intellectuals are aware of an historical precedent to their "pledge" to an individual? That individual was named Adolf Hitler.

And these idiots are volunteering a pledge to an individual they know little about except his "hope and change" message.

They aren't but I am:

Jungvolk Oath (taken by ten-year-old boys on first entering the Hitler Youth) "In the presence of this blood banner which represents our Führer, I swear to devote all my energies and my strength to the saviour of our country, Adolf Hitler. I am willing and ready to give up my life for him, so help me God."

Pledge of Allegiance "I promise to do my duty in love and loyalty to the Führer and our flag."

Hitler Youth 'Prayers' (modeled after the Lord's Prayer) "Adolf Hitler, you are our great Führer. Thy name makes the enemy tremble. Thy Third Reich comes, thy will alone is law upon the earth. Let us hear daily thy voice and order us by thy leadership, for we will obey to the end and even with our lives. We praise thee! Heil Hitler!" "Führer, my Führer, give me by God. Protect and preserve my life for long. You saved Germany in time of need. I thank you for my daily bread. Be with me for a long time, do not leave me, Führer, my Führer, my faith, my light, Hail to my Führer!"

Link to the above.

Good links, and I definitely remember, in one of those old black and white films about the Nazis, footage that showed members of the army taking an oath of loyalty to Hitler, and it was presented as one of the major steps that tied the fate of Germany irretrievably to Hitler.

Just like Hitler's SS, these traitors swore an oath to a man and not their country.

Brown shirts all around for my Hollywood "friends", I'm buying...

I just saw. "The Pledge," a few minutes ago upon signing in on the net.

Now that O is pres, everyone will become better people, don't ya know.

I don't need people in Hollywood lecturing to me, thank you very much. Furthermore, they could use some advice on how to be better people from the rest of us.

I wonder if President Bush's people removed the "O's" from whitehouse keyboards before they left?

I Pledge...

To buy a gas-guzzling old classic car with a V-8 engine and drive at high speeds, thumbing my nose at empty transit buses nobody wants to ride.

To ask for double-paper inside of plastic bags when I buy groceries.

To buy new toilets for my home from Canada, where you can still buy non “water-saving” toilets that you only have to flush once after taking a dump.

To eat lots of red meat.

Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Neither can I. It’s crossed the line now.

When they went on their ranting and raving in ‘04 I was upset, but chalked it up as a bunch of silly ditzes getting worked up. After this, no more. I have to build my bank account and bail and build a new life.

Hitler didn’t share power with celebrities.

These fools think Obama will share power with them.
