Funny how we’re supposed to take the word of one guy...and his imaginary Army officer friend.

and anytime you’d like to discuss Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld’s “reverence” for the military..such as their total lack of planning for Phase IV in the post Saddam environment...and guys rumaging thru junk piles in Iraq for steel plate to up - armor our HumVees...well...go right ahead. :-)

You have personal knowledge there was NO planning, or did you read this in a book?

See as I recall events, this was a two front war. Our liberals were doing everything they could to save old Saddam and that precious 'art' work as they attempted to reenact their victory of Vietnam. And we were literally attacked first. And the 'intel' presented came from the Clintons administration. And it was under Clintonism where the end of the COLD WAR a dividend celebration took place and our military was cut to the bone.

While the first pretenders covered themselves and voted to declare WAR, they were already in a non-partisan fight against Rummy doing a bottom-up review of the military. They did not want that review nor were they interested in anybody messing up their hometown cash cows via the earmarks they passed unto themselves under military spending.

Congress was quite united in their raving hate of Rummy coming to town and messing up their personal voting military blocs with the special 'earmarks' out to the military institutions.... I do not recall any of them in Congress or in military ranks, voicing one bit of concern regarding military preparedness when old Bill Clinton was flexing his 'I am going to get you Saddam' muscles.

But how convenient it is that anything and everything that could go wrong was and still is Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld' fault....

How well prepared were our military under FDR in that battle of the Bulge? HMMMMM????? I don't think they found warm blankets or old shoes to keep their bodies from freezing in that WAR.

Congress is the institution that appropriates the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, and if you have an itch about what our military had to go through and without, it is with them.

So you met a guy in a bar who said he was an Army officer? Any proof he was who he said he was? Maybe he was drunk, or maybe you were too....who knows....but it’s anecdotal at best so it’s good for nothing.

“Are speaking about the Nazi Commmander, Erwin Rommel?”

Rommel was a German general officer in WWII. He was not a Nazi. He was involved in the plot to assassinate Hitler.

Isn’t that the truth!

Instead of hitting the ‘private’ abuse button, I want to publicly ask the Admin Mod if this sort of baiting insult is what FR has now decided to allow? Inattention to this sort of democrap underground baiting and condescension is destroying FreeRepublic.com ... in my opinion, of course. Your ‘millage’ may vary

So you'd rather Saddam, Russia, Iran, Venezuela and Co. had been allowed to replace the petrodollar with the petroeuro and destroy the dollar by doing so?

You'd rather have the housing bubble be imploding on top of the externally directed hard landing of the dollar?

Bush did the right thing in Iraq. Maybe he could have done a better job articulating the economic motivations of the action - but nonetheless our national interest was, and IS, being served by our military presence there.

And so, it's not an option that I ever decided to pursue.”

It absolutely blows me away that ANYBODY actually listens to this Marxist Social Worker with a law degree that's been caught lying more than Bill Clinton, and Obama is just starting.

Obama is out to do one thing and that is to install his view of Marxist government AND to spread the wealth overseas. Democrats don't want to drill for oil? BS they want $$ flowing overseas because some of it winds back into their pockets.

I have no arguement against removing Saddam..I have a BIG arguement against how it was done.

Think back...the “Plan” in the post 9/11 world was to establish a “foothold of democracy in the Middle East” was it not?
And Iraq was the preferred starting point...rather than Afghanistan...due to the secular nature of their people and the perceived threat of WMD in the hands of that thuggish clique from Tikrit, right? ( The presence of all that oil didn’t hurt either ,right? Somewhere along the line I believe we were told this war would pay for itself ..if I’m not mistaken)

So how did we go about establishing this foothold of Democracy in the Islamic World? That’s where I have the problem...Rumsfeld kept wanting to vailidate his theories on lighter faster forces...and on the face of it ..it seemed to work..we got in there and toppled Saddam in what..about 4 or 5 weeks.....?

But what happened afterwards? ...think back....oh yeah..we decided to come up with THAT gameplan AFTERWARD...while the Mullahs in Tehran kept close on our heels w/ their operatives as we went in...and those ammo dumps got looted by the people who lost their jobs and honor and dignity
when Bremer put them all out in the street...

Some “Plan”.

“Monday Morning Quarterbacking” my ass.

> George Stephanopoulos asked the freshman senator in a taped interview if he’d ever thought about military service.
> “You know,” said Obama as if his reply might surprise people. “I actually did. I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school. And I was growing up in Hawaii. And I have friends whose parents were in the military. There are a lot of Army, military bases there.

That Obama did this is 100% BullSquat:
Obama’s Selective Service Registration Form is Apparently 1990 Form Altered to Appear Like 1980 Form

Oh, so if the war was still raging in Southeast Asia, Obama would have readily enlisted and served. I doubt it.

The media loves to cover up and obscure the fact that Obama was a red diaper baby.

When it comes to military planning ...it takes more than just “Courage”....

Like that line from “Bridge Over The River Kwai”....
“COURAGE..that and a swagger stick is what gets a lot of men killed ! “.

If it were WWII Obama wouldn’t serve anymore than Clinton. They both loath the military and consider themselves too good for that line of work.

I often wish our founding father’s had made military service a prerequisite for being POTUS.

It would be best for those who order troops into battle to have been there...
