It was like "The Canterbury Tales."
That's what it was like last Saturday, in LaGuardia Airport, on the shuttle to Washington packed full of people going to the inauguration of President Obama. A handsome, affluent black woman in first classfur hat, chic silver jewelrylaughed on a cell phone as a businessmantall, black, middle agedhurried down the aisle in black overcoat and Burberry scarf. A young man in slouchy jeans and dark watchman's cap, iPod buds in place, nodded, in coach, to the tune in his head. Two young white men in beige cowboy hats and grey fleece jackets came on board. Where you from? "Montana!" they said in unison. A boy, 10 or so, learning-impaired, sat with his grandmother. Where you from? I asked him. Shyly: "Detroit. Kentucky." Middle-aged and older black women in their proud, broad-brimmed hats sat primly, purses clutched on laps. A young black family all in jumpsuits posed for pictures. An air of great sweetness. The tender way people laugh too loud when they're a little nervous, and excited, and know they're part of something and it's big.
Everyone had a story. It was this young woman's first time on a plane. Two little girls, 8 and 11, with their mother, from West Palm Beach, Fla., had never been to Washington. "We're going to see Mr. Obama," the older girl said, noting the obvious to another dullard adult. I told her I'd met him and he's a very nice man, and her eyes went wide: You can meet him?

bump for later.
Piggy is a tool.
I am officially changing this womans name to Peggy Spoonin’.
I stopped listening, or reading, this frauds stuff after the ‘open mike’ incident last year.
I hope MSNBC is paying her well, I suspect her book sales will never be what they were prior to last years outting.
I refuse to read anything more from her.
open mic with Peggy!
Hey, arrogance and pretense are exemplary in thier adherence to equal-opportunity principles. And, what, this didn't exist BO?
OY, Peggy Noonan! I guess I'd better read this so I can fire back one slug instead of a bunch of buckshot.
Ok Peggy, we get it. Blacks are ecstatic that one of their own made it to the White House. Now get back to your day job.
I think someone has Jungle Fever...
It was like “The Canterbury Tales.”
More like woodstock meets the million man march.
I saw an affirmative action candidate with no accomplishments and reflexive Marxism waving the white flag to Islamonazis.
Yep! Those kind of people never existed under the Bush War Crime Regime! /sarc
She annoys me as much nowadays as Peggy from King of the Hill.
Why don’t you just curl up with a good book Peggy and spare us your giggly girl romantic bs? This man and the implications for our future resulting from his policy decisions are nothing romantic or rosy or anything good. She has checked her brains at the door. This is not a freaking fairy tell, dear God in heaven help us.
Peggy Swooning might work as well. I’m disgusted at myself for admiring her writing at one time. Blech.
Peggy Noonan has always been unreliable and made lots of left-leaning comments after she left the Reagan administration, too. That she was leaning right recently made many not familiar with her over the years think she’s a dedicated conservative but she’s not. This stuff is pretty true to form for her.
She should get an apartment with Maureen Dowd so they can share sweaters in August and take turns feeding their fifty cats.
