Limbaugh Responds to Obama
National Review ^ | 1/24/09 | Byron York

Posted on 01/24/2009 1:06:04 PM PST by JRochelle

According to an account in the New York Post, President Barack Obama yesterday told Republican leaders, "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." With George W. Bush now off the stage, it may be that Obama and some of his fellow Democrats view Limbaugh, and not John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, or any other elected official, as the true leader of the Republican opposition. This morning I asked Rush for his thoughts on all this, and here is his response:

There are two things going on here. One prong of the Great Unifier's plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan. He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me. And who knows? Are ideological and philosophical ties enough to keep the GOP loyal to their voters? Meanwhile, the effort to foist all blame for this mess on the private sector continues unabated when most of the blame for this current debacle can be laid at the feet of the Congress and a couple of former presidents. And there is a strategic reason for this.

Secondly, here is a combo quote from the meeting:

"If we don't get this done we (the Democrats) could lose seats and I could lose re-election. But we can't let people like Rush Limbaugh stall this. That's how things don't get done in this town."

To make the argument about me instead of his plan makes sense from his perspective. Obama's plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR's New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy. Put simply, I believe his stimulus is aimed at re-establishing "eternal" power for the Democrat Party rather than stimulating the economy because anyone with a brain knows this is NOT how you stimulate the economy. If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of this TRILLION dollar debacle.

Obama was angry that Merrill Lynch used $1.2 million of TARP money to remodel an executive suite. Excuse me, but didn't Merrill have to hire a decorator and contractor? Didn't they have to buy the new furnishings? What's the difference in that and Merrill loaning that money to a decorator, contractor and goods supplier to remodel Warren Buffet's office? Either way, stimulus in the private sector occurs. Are we really at the point where the bad PR of Merrill getting a redecorated office in the process is reason to smear them? How much money will the Obamas spend redecorating the White House residence? Whose money will be spent? I have no problem with the Obamas redoing the place. It is tradition. 600 private jets flown by rich Democrats flew into the Inauguration. That's fine but the auto execs using theirs is a crime? In both instances, the people on those jets arrived in Washington wanting something from Washington, not just good will.

If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of the trillion dollar debacle.

One more thing, Byron. Your publication and website have documented Obama's ties to the teachings of Saul Alinksy while he was community organizing in Chicago. Here is Rule 13 of Alinksy's Rules for Radicals:

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

BIPARTISANSHIP???????

The Obama Nazi said “I WON”.... and “I WILL TURMP YOU ON THAT” Thats some really positive bi-partisanship on his part when he responds to Republicans asking to curb the price tag on this massive social welfare package.

And .. if the GOP buys this load of C _ _ P - then the election in 2010 will be a blood bath.

That will give the dems 40-50 years of domination .. and America will be Russia redux by then.

Oh well .. I didn’t want to retire anyway.

I don’t think Obama actually said that. I believe that was Rush paraphrasing/summarizing Obama’s remarks.

According to reports given to Major Garrett, Obama Says His View on Taxes Prevailed Because 'I Won' , yes, he did. From his article:

............"Obama explained that lawmakers were closer together than the public realized on the stimulus package but warned of pitfalls if Congress and the White House don't work together. Again, according to participants in the meeting, Obama said this about rising above typical partisan differences: "We're all political animals, we've all got political bases," the president is reported to have said. "If we don't get this done we (the Democrats) could lose seats and I could lose re-election. But we can't let people like Rush Limbaugh stall this. That's how things don't get done in this town."".............

This flap is NOTHING like the drug fiasco. This can only help Rush. How on earth could Obama calling out Rush “damage” him? If anything, this elevates his stature and boosts his ratings big time.

You can't just watch Chris Matthews and get things done.

That's why I don't watch Kristy Matthews.

Yep, if these people have only heard one side for years since they were kept on the plantation by the dimwits; what do you think they would believe?

The disconnect between the Washington/Beltway elites and mainstreet has never been bigger.

“The fact that Zero even brought up Rush’s name shows how stupid he is.”

Yes, you have a good point, he’s equivalenced himself to Rush in the power struggle - bad idea. This is going to be more fun that expected.....

(tndarlin to oldbill)I understand your point, but I also understand Rush's. He is using the absurd to illustrate absurdity.

Exactly. Plus there IS no difference whether Merrill Lynch uses the money or loans it out for others to use the money (like as Rush said, redecorating Warren Buffet's office). In fact, banks/holding companies are holding on to the bailout money and it's not 'stimulating' anything. So Merrill's renovations actually _did_ get money to the 'little people' who did the work.

And yes, it's the wrong way to do it, but there's nothing wrong with Rush's 'logic' there.

They may try to harass Rush in other ways, but I doubt they’d physically harm him. 40 million of us would go off like spider monkeys jacked up on a gallon of pi$$ed-off and Mt. Dew.

I think when a President of the U.S. starts telling people not to listen to his critics it is a huge jump toward totalitarianism.

So our latest POTUS with the highest IQ ever takes on Rush Limbaugh and the Catholic Church within 4 days of his swearing-in?

He has Hussein pegged so well, it is scary.

And that's why Obama feels he has to go after him. Rush is one of the few people on the Right who actually understands what Obama is all about, unlike "Maverick" McCain.

Rush is great, but how do we get middle America to listen to him? How do we get the college kids and those from 25 to 35 to listen to him? How do we get kids who are no longer taught how to think for themselves to question everything they hear and to search for the truth?

There is probably action already afoot; however, we need to each start in our own towns and get started now on grass roots levels to elect conservative Congress critters/senators and get the RINOs out. I joined a local group, but it seems there are so many little splinter groups and we need a massive link-up.

If anyone has insight and information, please freep mail me and/or put me on any lists you think may help? Thanks!

"Yes, Rush knows because he is much smarter than Obama. BUT, does Rush know how to negate the ‘freezing’ and polarizing happening to readers at FR as we write these posts? I don’t thnk so, but we shall see in the coming weeks."

So, should we criticize Rush for not being able to accomplish that alone, or should we join Rush in pointing out what Obama is attempting, and how he is attempting to do it?
