Pelosi Defends Stimulus as Bipartisan (Pelosi wants bipartisan blame)
abc ^ | 1/25/2009 | MARY BRUCE

In an exclusive "This Week" interview, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., defended the $825 billion economic stimulus package against Republicans' accusations that Democrats are ignoring their proposals.

The recovery package cleared the House Appropriations, Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees this week, but the voting has been along party lines.

"Because the Republicans don't vote for it doesn't mean they didn't have an opportunity to," Pelosi told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. "The Republicans asked for a couple things. ... They didn't vote for the final bill but we voted for some of their amendments.

Funny. I thought HRH Pelosi decreed that the minority party doesn't matter anymore. I'd like to see the GOP grow some balls and vote “no” as a party against everything, no matter what. Then we can see how effective HRH Pelosi is at keeping her own caucus together.

We need a second one.

We need a new party.

Exactly! It's going to pass anyway but at least the GOP won't have to take a blame when it fails to stimulate. It worked so good for the Libs as the “Party Of No” maybe the GOP should give it a try.

I wish the R's would do something radical to get the nation's attention. Sigh....I know that's too much to ask for though.

For just 10 days, could they not speak to a single media outlet....just cast votes? When they come out of one of these "bipartisan" meetings with the prez, they could boycott the mics. Preface the boycott with a statement from the leadership that they there are no checks and balances and they are effectively shut out by the Dems and a president who says "nanny, nanny, boo, boo - I won, so you can take your marbles and go home." When the press wants them on the talk shows to "get their message out/hear the other side" - the R's should ask - "since when?"

Great catch!

The rats man a slowly sinking ship and they desperately want to take us down with them as it slowly sinks into the abyss of more socialism and massive federal debt.

If you will notice they trapped GW into massive spending just before he left. He fell into the trap just enough for the rats to blame us for some time to come for the demise of the nation.

Trick is to actually become a conservative party, vote that way, and actually mean it!! A big order for the rino infested party we have become.

In the end, if the GOP votes for this bill, the democrats will pin the tail on the elephant.

The MSM will make sure it is seen this way.

What is left of the GOP in Congress isn’t smart enough to resist.

“Because the Republicans don’t vote for it doesn’t mean they didn’t have an opportunity to,”

So this makes it a bipartisan bill? They voted against it, but had an opportunity to vote for it, so that makes it bipartisan.

This is right up there with Bush’s “I abandoned free market principles to save the free market” when it comes to convoluted logic.

What next, we destroyed the constitution to save it?

If the Republicans thought this through at all, they would realize that the only way they can get publicity is to oppose this crap. Maybe the msm will try to paint them bad but it would give them a chance to get the news to the people, how much pork, what jobs will this piece really create, how much will your children pay, etc.

If they go along to get along, they will blend with the Democrats and do nothing to help their own party. They will look like the spineless, stand-for-nothing, losers that they are acting like.

Exactly. Rush was talking a little about this on Friday. What we need is a grass-roots revival. We don’t need a new party, we need conservatives to infest the Republican Party. This is essentially what Reagan, et. al. did in 1976.

It’s time for a Reagan revival. It’s time for people like freepers and full-triad Conservatives to run for office. Shoot, I’m even thinking about running for Congress.

The point is this: YOUR message above can and will sell. The level of discontent, by real conservatives and even less-than-conservative Republicans, will rise to epic proportions by 2010.

This is the time to take back this Party. If you agree with me on this, then answer this question: what are you doing, or what will you do to run for office or support true triad Conservatives as THEY run for office?

Pelosi and her ilk can be beat, not just because conservative ideas are better, but because, they can indeed be sold to the American people. Americans aren’t idiots, they just need a bolder choice than democrat vs. democrat-lite.

Obama’s most strident message at the end - and the one that won the middle ground - was on the issue of tax cuts. Even his “share the wealth” idiocy was argued in the form of a conservative idea: tax cuts for all! You can’t out-democrat a democrat (as we have seen), but the converse is also true: the democrats cannot out-conservative a true conservative.

The bottom line is this. I would love to proudly be able to call myself a Republican again. Wouldn’t you? If so, it’s gonna take some serious work.

Every Republican ought to oppose this turkey.

Not to “make a statement”.

But because it will be an epic fail in its intended purpose, which is to stimulate the economy.

It isn’t stimulus — it’s welfare. It won’t work.

Let the Democrats take the responsibility for THEIR failure.

Now... if they want to pass an 850 billion stimulus bill that is 100% defense spending and real infrastructure improvements... that would be worth debate and maybe even support.

If this bill was the wonderful cure-all that Obama and the Democrats are claiming it is, why would they want ANY Republicans on board, taking credit for its passage.

When the bill is as successful as Dems claim it will be, they can blow their own horns as saviors of the nation and claim full credit for it.

The fact that they’re begging for GOP complicity tells me they know the bill stinks and they want to make sure the stink is on both parties.

The Republicans went along with the initial bailout because they didn’t want the blame for the crisis reaching “Main Street”. Well, here we are on Main Street any way. They are stupid if they go along on the stimulus. They just need to look back at history to know this will fail.

The majority of Americans watch MSM. They will never know the truth... So as usual the republicans will be to blame. Obama,Barney and Pelosi will get away with it again. Democrats and liberals will get away with it again. We should boycott MSM...not that it would help because most of the people I know who did on-line searches during the election voted for McCain.
We should start putting pressure on the media. But how? Alot of the blame should fall on them. I think the only way that people will truly open their eyes is if Obama does something so drastic such as pull all guns from the hands of the American people will they realize they have been hoodwinked. Maybe that should be our prayer that the spirit of hoodwink, deception be lifted from the White House. That what is hidden in the dark be brought into the light so that the American people can see it.

She really means it :

Excerpts from Nancy Pelosi's House Floor Speech :"The election last year is historic. The middle class has finally stood up for their interests on election day. Polls overwhelmingly call for congress to pass the economic stimulus plan proposed by President Barack Obama. ""I promised the voters that if they increased the democrat majority that the congress would work together in a bi-partisan fashion. In the spirit of bi-bipartisanship democrats are willing to call the tax rebate welfare checks "tax cuts". And we will remove more of the lower income voters from the income tax rolls to free them from worrying about the consequences of massive government spending. That alone should get republicans votes. We also are willing to call our massive pork barrel public employee unions payoffs "investments" and claim that they really be "private sector jobs". These massive projects will truly be "investments", because later we will be able to raise your taxes under the principle of fiscal responsibility. With less money in your pocket you are more likely to change your behaviour to get more of our tax credits. None of this will be easy without republican support."

Exactly. ("You can't place all the blame on us demonrats. It's not like we have a majority....Wait a minute...ummm...Nevermind.")

The DBM had enough voters believing that the GOP was still in control of congress this past election, that a number of voters took out their anger at them, instead of the dims that caused the current financial crisis.

That way when liberal Republicans butt-kiss the Dems the Sphincter of the House cannot claim “bipartisanship” as the sides will be divided by principle and not parties.
