DALLAS (CBS) ―

The coach of a Texas high school basketball team that beat another team 100-0 reportedly was fired Sunday, the same day he sent an e-mail to a newspaper stating he will not apologize "for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity" and posted a detailed explanation on a hoops Web site.

The Covenant School girls basketball coach Coach Micah Grimes, along with girls from his team, released a statement on the website of the Flight Basketball Academy.

Kyle Queal, the headmaster for Covenant School, said in The Dallas Morning News online edition that he could not answer if the firing was a direct result of Grimes' e-mail disagreeing with administrators who called the blowout "shameful."

I have read that they full court pressed until they it 100. If that is true he should have been fired.

Full court press, taking 3-point shots, and the coach yelling and screaming from the bench to go for 100 points.

The guy's an a$$hole. He doesn't belong on a HS bench.

“Perhaps the school with the losing team should hire him?”

Or the Pentagon.

He wanted that 100. Funny how they scored EXACTLY 100. He got what he wanted. And something he didn’t want.

He should teach them NOT to work hard and not to strive to be the best. He should just send them to public school I guess and tell them they need to get on welfare too.

I guess then he would be teacher of the year.

What is a coach to do when he puts in the scrubs of the scrubs and they keep on scoring? I’ve always wondered about that.

That reminds me of a game around 15 years ago in the Eastern part of Georgia. An all black girls team was undefeated. They played a private school which had five little blondes starting.

The amazing thing was the little blondes just beat the tar out of the other team. Actually it wasn’t as surprising as I originally thought. The private school had only lost a couple of games all year. Those little girls were aggressive as all get out.

I applaud the girls of the Dallas Academy for not giving up. It’s a very small school that takes on girls with learning disabilities. I saw some of them interviewed on the local Dallas News and it would appear to be mild disabilities in most cases. They may not have a lot of talent but they’ve got a lot of heart.

Getting excited about scoring 100 on a team that hasn’t won a game in 4 years and includes handicapped kids is pretty pathetic.

If anyone did anything wrong here, it would be the person responsible for scheduling the game between two schools so dramatically mismatched in skill level.

The league didn’t have a mercy rule,

but wouldn’t the PEOPLE involved have a sense of that virtue?

I’m not agreeing with his firing, but geewhiz... the coach should have let his backbenchers play after it was obvious the other team wasn’t a threat.

The winning school wants to declare it a forfeit and let the losing team take a win.

Lets all play pretend they won. I am sure they will feel good about that win! You go girls, you won that game after all.

Geesh.

THAT is the opposite of reality

“Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. The team remains winless during the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with “learning differences,” such as short attention spans or dyslexia. “

They seem to be in the wrong league for more than one reason. Not exactly a confidence builder.

Maybe they should be like the Dallas Cowboys and quit after the 3rd quarter?

Its too damn bad so many think winning and class/good sportsmanship are mutually exclusive.
