A mother has given birth to eight babies in a hospital south of Los Angeles, the world's second live-born set of octuplets.

Dr. Karen Maples told KCAL-TV that the babies were born Monday at Kaiser Permanante and were "doing quite well."

The hospital says the mother, who asked not to be identified, gave birth to six girls and two boys weighing between 1.8 pounds and 3.4 pounds.

Dr. Harold Henry told KCAL that "they were all screaming and kicking around very vigorously."

I doubt it. This is usually from ovary stimulation which I doubt is cheap.

Wow. What a blessing.

I believe our President would view these babies as a punishment.

My son was 2 1/2 when my identical twin daughters were born.

I cried when I found out I was carrying twins. I knew how much work 1 baby was, and I didn’t know how I’d manage with 3.

It also did not go well. My twins got sick when they were 6 weeks old. One of them has a brain injury, and at 12 years old we are still dealing with issues from that.

I love my twins, but I would never have fertility drugs that increased my chances of having multiples. I’d adopt instead.

I doubt it. Nobody can produce that many naturally. It requires fertility drugs, and a LOT of prenatal care for all eight to survive. So, somebody has really good insurance.

Try not being able to have any. Eight is a blessing, none is a curse.
PS Brucey was my dog.

"It's a risky decision to try to have all eight babies," said Paulson, who had no role in the delivery. "I would not recommend it under any circumstances, but I respect a parent's decision."

I had twins after already having one and said I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

How I wish I could be your worst enemy!

{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}

I hear you. :*(
I dealt with infertility for many years myself (married in ‘94, 6 years before my first daughter was born, another 7 before my twins arrived this past summer on our last try, several lost babies in between). No way
these were a natural pregnancy, not that that makes any difference in the existence of those precious little lives!

Prayers going up for all of them, and for you, too, BruceysMom.

This is from the cheapest kind of ovary stimulation, which probably cost them $50 at the most. When you pay the big bucks you are carefully monitored so that you do not ever ovulate/fertilize more than the number of eggs you want to actually try to implant.

Could she be a lab rat or a rabbit?
