Posted on 01/27/2009 11:31:46 AM PST by ezfindit
Two men released from the US war on terror prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba have appeared in a video posted on a jihadist website, the SITE monitoring service reported.
One of the two former inmates, a Saudi man identified as Abu Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri, or prisoner number 372, has been elevated to the senior ranks of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, a US counter-terrorism official told AFP. [...]
The Defense Department has said as many as 61 former Guantanamo detainees about 11 percent of 520 detainees transferred from the detention center and released are believed to have returned to the fight.

If they do that, they’re going to get put on trial by our own chain of command, which has already happened several times in the Bush administration.

If the scum are using deadly force there no reason why the ammo clips should not be emptied. Set to full auto!

Works for me. These people wish for nothing more than to die for the cause of jihad, so our soldiers should do everything they can to help them achieve this goal.
No, then they would be following international law. Killers wearing no uniforms are considered spies or mercenaries.
There is no protection given to those. It was stupid of the Gov’t arrest these clowns and treat them as enemy combatants to be begin with.

I remember talking to a crusty ole Guadalcanal Marine, He said that the Japanese army wanted to die for their Emperor..
He also said the the US Marines expedited their request by the thousands

For better or for worse, your message to the Allied Forces will be ignored because militaries worldwide only take orders from their superior officers.
In the case of the US Military, that would ultimately be your new Commander-in-Chief Barack Hussein Obama Dada thru General Petraeus.
If he wanted to issue a “No Prisoners” order he probably would. My guess is that he won’t, for any number of reasons.

Price of a bullet or 2 is far less than even one meal we give them.
Granted, one cannot legally give the order to take no prisoners. One can lay out the facts, and allow the troops to act on their own best judgement...

Better yet, take as many prisoners as possible, then tell them all that the person who gives the most valuable intelligence will be allowed to live while all the others die. Then you will see who wants to die for Allah and who doesn’t buy the 72 virgins crap.

The logical conclusion, and it's not too far away, is that these scum will be tried in courts of law. Thus our troops will have to retrieve evidence from the battlefield, give depositions, set up a 12,000-mile long evidence chain of custody and fly halfway around the world to trials so the defendant can face his accuser.
That means taking a prisoner will result members pulled off the line to give depositions and attend trials. It also means troops will have to risk their lives to gather "evidence" beyond what's needed militarily. Any commander worth his salt will determine that the added risks and serious depletion of a unit's firepower makes taking prisoners untenable. We will lose valuable intel that captives can provide as they will now be killed instead.
The President and all his lawyer friends can gloat about how we've "rejoined the world" while the people whose rights they're championing are being killed instead of imprisoned. American soldiers will also die from the reduced intel flow. Nice job - dickheads.
Does anyone else see a contradiction in how this Administration is fine with killing a suspected terrorist from a drone but refuses to interrogate prisoners? It's OK to turn them into grease spots, just don't make them uncomfortable. Guess we shouldn't point that out or the Zero will cancel the Predator strikes too.

an 11% recidivism rate is outstanding, i think our prisons are in the 80-90% range.
my question is, why are these...people...released back into the wild without being radio-tagged and monitored?

There is a very good reason why civil law, criminal law and the laws of war are separate.
War is not crime. Treating it like crime is a guaranteed one-way street to crushing defeat.
If you want the perfect way to lose a war, just put lawyers in charge of it.
