Nancy Pelosi's Modest Proposal
The American Spectator ^ | 1/27/2009 | George Neumayr

Posted on 01/27/2009 1:59:53 PM PST by markomalley

"It will reduces costs," Nancy Pelosi said on This Week, in reference to the "stimulus" rationale for sending millions of dollars to the states for "family planning."

What would once have been considered an astonishingly chilly and incomprehensible stretch is now blandly stated liberal policy.

The full title of Jonathan Swift's work, A Modest Proposal, was, For Preventing the Children of Poor People in Ireland From Being a Burden to their Parents or Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Public.

Change a few of the words and it could be a Democratic Party policy paper. Swift suggested that 18th-century Ireland stimulate its economy by turning children into food for the wealthy. Pelosi proposes stimulating the U.S. economy by eliminating them.

Other slumping countries, such as Russia and France, pay parents to have children; it looks like Obama's America will pay parents to contracept or kill them. Perhaps the Freedom of Choice Act can also fall under the Pelosi "stimulus" rationale. Why not? An America of shovels and scalpels will barrel into the future.

Euthanasia is another shovel-ready job for Pelosi to assign to the states. Reducing health care costs under Obama's plan, after all, counts as economic stimulus too. Controlling life, controlling death, controlling costs. It's all stimulus in the Brave New World utopia to come.

Let's not punish the economy with future workers. Maybe Social Security can be pushed back a couple of decades and the elderly can just work twice as hard.

She beat around the bush so much it was hard to figure out exactly what she was talking about. It’s like she has to speak in code so that those who agree with her know what she’s talking about and those that don’t can’t get mad at her because they don’t know what the hell she’s talking about.

Ross Perot had a similar sentiment when he said we spend too much money educating the so-called “mentally challenged” and not enough on the gifted, when from a pragmatic point of view it’s the gifted who will produce and give back to society. At least he spelled it out in easy to understand language and you didn’t have to guess what he meant.

“What would once have been considered an astonishingly chilly and incomprehensible stretch “

Describes her perfectly!

If they get the socialism they’re aiming for, abortion will be considered ‘destruction of government property’.

Ain’t it funny how liberals always look at this as ‘one more mouth to feed’ rather than ‘two more hands to work’.

I also don't understand why the whole Left implies we're in the kind of crisis that needs to be addressed by increasing the "availablility" of contraceptives.

Condoms? You can get 'em at Wal-Mart, Target, in the bathroom at the truck stop along with some very fine perfume [ahem] or at Bubba's Beer, Bait and Lotto Emporium. You can get em from 99.9% of the pharmacies, County Health Departments, groceries, and almost all the convenience stores in America---- plus mail-order --- and for less than the cost of a King-Size Hershey Bar with ALmonds.

And for free at Student Healh Services.

We're inundated in contraceptives. Yeesh.

And Pelosi-mother-of-5 thinks that if we can just get MORE taxpayer-funded contraceptives out there, this'll help solve the collapse of the banking and credit industries, and restore the U.S. and world economies?

She wants to keep running the damn social-spending-ponzi schemes, while resolutely reducing the number of people who (they hope) could eventually fund it all?

(Sighing. Rolling eyes. Thumping head. Crossing myself devoutly. Wishing for a good stiff drink...)

A lot of you are missing one of the major aspects of the abortion issue and its parallel to Swift’s “Proposal”:

These babies ARE being harvested for their organs and for research material for the benefit of the “wealthy”.

It has been said that leftists love to use and hear “big words” in order to hide the truth of what they’re talking about.

In the abortion issue, this is very much the case.

“For too long, America’s children have come in last in the competition for government investments. For too long, we have allowed outdated ways of thinking to determine our policies regarding our children. And for too long, there has been not enough political will to make children our number one priority in our work here in Congress.

I pledge to you today that those days are over. We take seriously our responsibility to America’s future – our children. As the brilliant author and activist Pearl S. Buck said: ‘If our American way of life fails the child, it fails us all.’ Today, we commit to ensuring our children are given the tools they need to succeed.” - Speaker Pelosi, 5/22/07

“At least he spelled it out in easy to understand language and you didn’t have to guess what he meant.”

Which might explain why Ross Perot’s political career was so short.

Forcing a conscience objector to pay for abortions is like forcing a doctor to preform abortions.
This govt. should be overthrown and obscene pieces of excrement like pelosi should be stoned.

“Euthanasia is another shovel-ready job for Pelosi to assign to the states”

Great line.

I love it when the liberal mask falls. Nancy slipped. Must be low on botox.

Somebody should ask Pelosi if seniors over 70 should be terminated to save the states money.
