Twentieth Century Fox has agreed to co-finance the third movie in the “Chronicles of Narnia” series, pending approval of the final script and shooting budget. If all goes as planned, Fox and Walden Media, which controls the movie rights to C.S. Thank you 20th Century Fox. You are standing up to the liberals and that’s a good thing.

Great, a movie to look forward to instead of most of the garbage Hollyweird puts out.

From the photo it looks like Lucy grew a beard.

Awesome! I was hoping they wouldn’t call it quits before the Dawn Treader — one of my favorites.

Awesome! Voyage of the Dawn Treader is one of my all time favorite books. Just hope they do it right. Prince Caspian was just a bit...off.

Both of my daughters will be relieved! They were totally bummed when I told them Disney had backed out.

I’m a big J.R.T. fan and C.S. Lewis, but Prince Caspian bored me to tears.

I just saw the movie on DVD today. Never read the book. The movie, it was fine, nothing groundbreaking.

On the one hand, it seemed a simple tell of a dispute over kingship, on the other, the danger of hubris on the part of these kids making rash war decisions. The Christian morality seemed fairly light in the movie.

I’d have liked the monarchy disposed of completely, but oh well.

I never felt any of the lead characters were in danger, which is a minus.

The 2nd one failed because they removed any Christian symbolism from the story. In the 1st version it was very evident. I’m willing to bet the 3rd one will be the weakest of all in that regard.

Hollywood is spiritually blind.

Buck up; Michael Apted will be in charge of the third one. We’ll have a change in command, and if what I’m hearing is true, a good one.

My favorite in the series is The horse and his boy but The voyage of the Dawn Treader is a close second.

I finally bought the books as a single edition. I wanted a boxed set, but, sorry, I didn’t think it was worth spending 7-8 bucks per book. I just have to make sure that I read them in the correct order, not the order that they’re in in the book.

It's very important to read the Narnia books in the as-published order, not in the order that the publisher puts them in the box (chronological within Narnian time).

Otherwise there are too many references and hints that you simply won't understand. For example, The Magician's Nephew is the earliest book in Narnian chronology, but it was written late in the series. You won't understand half of what's going on in the book if you read it first. The same is true of The Horse and His Boy.

I am looking forward to this picture - but I sure wish they were not waiting so long in between productions...

I haven’t figured out why the order of books has been changed up. While I understand they were written out of chronological order (Narnia time), The original publication order makes the most sense. Even Lewis was unclear about the order intended. There is a reference to a letter from an American child/fan where he says the order read isn’t particularly important.

As you said - some of the references don’t make sense if read in chronological order.

Hey FOX, Lewis wrote some excellent sci-fi for a movie!

Low special effects costs! Spend almost an hour on Out of The Silent Planet and Perelandra and 90 minutes on That Hideous Strength... You’ll be rolling in dough!

The order was changed because the publishers hadn't read the books!

Far be it from me to criticize Pauline Baynes, who is a very fine illustrator, but she didn't read the books with close attention either, because she portrayed Lucy as a brunette.

The problem is that no publisher or illustrator will EVER read the books with the close attention of die-hard fans. I read them first as a child of six, and still re-read them periodically. I can quote whole passages from memory.

(MacMillan originally published them in the U.S., my set (purchased around 1960) has the books in the original order. I have no idea who is publishing them now.)

Dang, I wish somebody WOULD do That Hideous Strength, but nobody in Hollywood would touch it because it's so obviously a criticism of secular humanism/liberal politics.

(I found out by accident, reading Lewis's volume of the Oxford History of English Lit, where that title came from. Obscure 16th c. Scottish poet.)

I agree. When reading it for the first time in the order CSL made them, my favorite parts were the ones that made me go “Oh thats why this happened.. etc...”
