Eastman Kodak will cut as many as 4,500 jobs this year in the latest round of restructuring at the famous American photography group.
The company made a preliminary fourth-quarter loss of $137 million (£95 million) from its continuing operations, compared with a profit of $215 million in the same three months of 2007.

Maybe if The Dear Leader (
Das Lieber Fuhrer) shovels an extra couple billion in Porkulus Grift to his vote-thieving buddies at ACORN, it'll help the laid-off workers at Kodak...
Or not.

Due to bad economy or death of traditional film cameras?

Kodak has been shrinking since the 1970s, first due to competition from Fuji and Ilford and later because they were behind the curve in digital. I’ve dealt with management there and walked away thinking their logo should be in the dictionary as the definition of “inertia”.

I propose that all at FR never say or write
“obama” without also writing
“hussein.” Therefor, it would be "Hussein's fault."
Or, "Hussein Obama’s" fault.
I'm serious. - Make it catch on - words have the power to shape perception - and this perception is real.

used a sheet film back on the Mamiya. You could push or pull FP4 and it was all good.....
Sigh.....I miss playing around in the chemicals.

Due to Kodak’s focus on diversity, tolerance and global warming rather than the competition.

Good idea, but I've already invested in the keyword "obamasfault".
I'll include it in the first posting comment, along with Dear Leader.

These are fourth-quarter losses. Didn’t Obama take over during the 1st quarter of 2009?

The truth be told, a part of the problem with Kodak is their desire to continue to support film technology. They simply can’t bail out on all of the customers who have film cameras and continue to use them. But, unforunately the number of those folks who do so is dwindling and Kodak’s support for that technology must also dwindle. This means that Kodak will continue to bleed jobs until the growth from digital technology is so large that it can pick up the excess employees who are released from the film business.

The market knew that The Dear Leader was The Man by late October, so he owns the fourth quarter of 2008.
Just as Bush got of office with no further terrorist attacks, even though a February/March/April attack would be MOSTLY Bush's, it's ALL on Cuddly Barry's hook now.

Due to bad economy or death of traditional film cameras? Kodak, has been bleeding red ink for more than a couple of years now. And yes it is the film, they were late to go digital!

I used to love PanatomicX 32asa in 120/220 with my Mamiya C330 ... you could enlarge to Billboard size if you wanted to... (or shoot wide and pick and choose 2 or 3 good pics out of one negative... )

I live in Rochester, home of Kodak, and during a local TV interview, one of the employees actually said something to that effect - "0bama and his new administration will help us."

Film is still a cash cow for Kodak. In fact, if they had to rely soley on digital product sales, they'd probably be gone.

They still sell film, but they sell tanker loads of chemicals, and they produce cigarette filters for china.
