“He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”
Thus did a rule of the George W. Bush administration — coat and tie in the Oval Office at all times — fall by the wayside, only the first of many signs that a more informal culture is growing up in the White House under new management. Mr. Obama promised to bring change to Washington and he has — not just in substance, but in presidential style.

What idiot wrote that headline?
Natch’. He’s got to be comfy when he gets his drink on and his snack on. Chill baby.
That hack politician could never hope to match any of his predecessor's standards.
“Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.”
Not very “green” of him, is it.
Hope he don’t burn it down with a kerosene heater.
If he’s COLD...he could put on his JACKET.....just a thought.
wanna bet the msm will be next? watch for sloppy starbucks dress coming to a news broadcast near you
Important members of the ruling elite are exempt.
That's because unlike you and me he doesn't have to pay the power bill. Meanwhile WWII vets are freezing to death in Detroit.
Well boys... get ready for the chittlin’ cookings on the front lawns... COOL Dude.
God... Please help America... it seems we can’t or won’t help ourselves.
My exact thoughts: Requiring a coat and tie in the Oval Office was Draconian? Good grief.
The Undocumented Exhibitionist is looking for an excuse to bare his “chiseled pecs” again.
Exactly the thought I was having.
Words do have meaning. This is childish use of this one.
His suit continues to be empty.
Believe me, if this is all they could find to write about Bush, the headline would be BUSH UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO PUT ON SUIT COAT.
This Kenyan-born guy is a big snore-bore. 4 years of this, huh?
She looked like she had come directly from a lesbian biker bar.
Familiar. Whats next - presidential oversight of the white house tennis court schedule?
“He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”
Where are the client police when you need them? Didn’t Obama state in the campaign that people don’t have to keep their thermostats at 72 all the time??
Given his Indonesian background, I'd say they were Soetorial standards...
If one doesn’t have respect for the Office, the Constitution, our Military, or our Country, there’s no point in looking professional.
Besides, after he’s been evicted from The Peoples House, he’s going to write another book, “Dress for Failure”.
...”with a top-secret intelligence briefing on security threats against the United States. Mr. Obama gets the presidents daily brief on Sundays as well, though unlike his predecessor, he does not necessarily put it first on his agenda.”
Not unexpected from a disrespectful slob.
Just another way for the muslim mole to thumb his nose at America.
“Under Mr. Bush, punctuality was a virtue. Meetings started early the former president once locked Secretary of State Colin L. Powell out of the Cabinet Room when Mr. Powell showed up a few minutes late”
Hahhaha, that RULES!
To some “journalists” it’s draconian to respect the office.
But, but, but...I thought we weren’t going to be able to have our thermostats set at 72, eat as much as we want and drive our SUVs everywhere. Oh that’s right, we’re the peons. Only we have to follow the rules set by the one.
When Mr. Bush moved in, he exercised his presidential decorating prerogatives and asked his wife, Laura, to supervise the design of a new rug.
The former resident having left some nasty stains on the old rug.
President Ulysses Grant was a clothes horse compared to this naif.
There ya go, Mr. President! Get that important stuff done!
In the Obama White House, meetings start on time and often finish late.
A sure sign of managerial sloppiness.
a kind of comfortable calm that, Mr. Gergen said, reflects a man who seems easygoing, not so full of himself.
President Bush felt it important to treat the White House and the Oval Office with respect and dignity due rather than treating it like the branch office of Initech.
When Mr. Bush wanted to see a member of his staff, the aide was summoned to the Oval Office. But Mr. Obama tends to roam the halls
I would do that when I had nothing better to do at the moment. I would think that would not be possible for the President of the United States. Does he actually do anything?
Careful, Chrissy Matthews may get all tingly again.
He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.
Indeed. Yet we are told to turn our heat down, while at least 22 US citizens died this week in a cold storm, in our country. We are also told that we can’t drill for oil in our own country, instead, just check the air in your tires.
Obama-the-Failure is failing on all counts, more and more each day.
From class to trash.
Chill out moron. They had to let people take their jacket off so they wouldn’t die of heat stroke. It’s just the rest of us that can’t keep our thermostat on 72 degrees. His apparently is nearer to 82.
I wonder when he'll start showing up in slippers, a stained Tshirt, and ripped sweats.
Didn’t the Klinton gang wear jeans in the WH too work?
he’s lived in Chicago for decades! He was “from” Hawaii one time, but Chicago is MUCH more recent.
The Children are back — Red Diaper Doper Babies, that is!
Oh boy, lots to comment on:
“He shows up at the Oval Office shortly before 9 in the morning, roughly two hours later than his early-to-bed, early-to-rise predecessor.” 9 AM? Bush was usually in by 630.
“He reads several papers, eats breakfast with his family and helps pack his daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, off to school” That part is cool. He seems to be a good dad.
The chance to be under the same roof with his kids, essentially to live over the store, to be able to see them whenever he wants, to wake up with them, have breakfast and dinner with them that has made him a very happy man. Must be nice.
“Under Mr. Bush, punctuality was a virtue. Meetings started early the former president once locked Secretary of State Colin L. Powell out of the Cabinet Room when Mr. Powell showed up a few minutes late and ended on time. In the Obama White House, meetings start on time and often finish late.” That’s hilarious.
If Mr. Obamas clock is looser than Mr. Bushs, so too are his sartorial standards. Over the weekend, Mr. Obamas first in office, his aides did not quite know how to dress. Some showed up in jeans (another no-no under Mr. Bush), some in coats and ties.
“Mr. Obama gets the presidents daily brief on Sundays as well, though unlike his predecessor, he does not necessarily put it first on his agenda. “ That is BS. Not only is he in almost three hours later than GWB, but he pushes the PDB back to, oh-whenever-o’clock.
Shows how seriously he takes national security.
GWB wearing a coat and tie was a show of respect for the office he held.
The magic marxist doesn’t respect(or love for that matter) the country so he certainly isn’t going to show respect for the office he’s occupying.
That’s what I was thinking. What a bunch of hypocrits!
What idiot wrote that headline?
Some idiot whose editor believes in casual Fridays 7 days a week?
He didn't really attend school in Chicago, did he?
One more reason his position on this is ridiculous. We go to the Island for 2 weeks every two years. Once home in Washington state, we freeze for a couple of weeks and the body adjusts.
Obama is even a failure on this explanation.
Oh, perhaps when he said his administration was going to be more transparent, he just meant they were going to dress down for work.
TUVOK, is that you???? We know you kept your Quarters hotter.
Or has Beyonce got ur pom phar in overdrive???
I am filling charges and you’re going to jail for that assault to my eyes.
