Listening to his acceptance speech now, it’s TERRIFIC!
Great news, I’ll help him here in PA.
It’s about time the GOP got a little Steele!
I know that many listening here do not agree. I am a big supporter of Michael and I am mostly hard right wing. Let’s help our new chairman work in that direction!
As in Steelers!!
He’d better step up to the plate and not pull his punches. I want both barrels blazing at the socialist-rat party.
Now that was funny!
Great news. Steele is the right person for the job at this time in history.
First African American chairman? The MSM should go nuts, right? Nah.....
“First African American chairman? The MSM should go nuts, right? Nah.....”
Wasn’t Michael Steele referred to as an “Oreo”?
Very pleased here.
Steel is a solid conservative. You will always find people who bitch about anyone who does not agree 100% with them.
Now let's Steele the House and Senate.
Yes!!! He’s a good man and a strong voice. I believe he will do much better than Duncan.
THANK YOU, GOD!!!!!! I have been calling EVERYONE I know at the RNC begging them to not vote for the other guy who just recently left his whites-only country club in So Car. Yee Gad! Can you IMAGINE what crap we would eat if the MSM could use this! Cripes... so even though Steele’s not perfect, a big PHEW being sighed here.
I’m sorry that it wasn’t Blackwell, but relieved that it isn’t Duncan. I won’t stand with Steele’s position on affirmative action, and regret that he feels compelled to bend over backwards to demonstrate his African American bona fides—plentiful slang and basketball and jazz analogies, etc.—to the point of apparent parody.
But if he can break through with communicating the values of small-government freedom and realization of individual potential, he will have delivered the golden leg of the Reagan coalition stool. That, I believe, is what we should keep him focused on 214/7. (While others within the organization also rebuild at the grassroots and new technology levels.)
With thanks to the Almighty!
We’re a renewed party. And the grassroots did it.
He was my preference.
Not my first pick, but it could have been worse. Congratulations to him.
Wonder if Schmucky Schumer still has his credit report?
Exactly. Please, let’s not attack this man if you do not agree with him 100%. Now is not the time.
Blackwell was my choice, but I can get behind Steele.
Now its time for him to pull no punches!!!!!
As a Reagan - Palin Republican, glad to see Michael Steele
as leader of RNC
He is a Catholic, he gets it, from a border type state.
He doesn’t turn off the south or the north.
He is a true African American who has a history in the U.S.
Election, not appointment. But congratulations are still in order.
I couldn’t be me thrilled about this.
I see hope in this party now.
Since he’s conservative, he doesn’t count as a minority to the liberals and the media.
Exactly. We need to keep pointing that out every step of the way.
The ‘he isn’t in line with me 110%!’ crap is how we ended up with John McLame.
Hope so, but considering the behavior of the GOP over the last 20 years, I'll wait and see. There's a lot of clean up work that needs to be done.
And most of them are here on FR and call those disagreers "RINOs", even though that tired label may be patently false.
Absolutism is the sure way to destruction.
I wasn’t aware that Michael Steele is a Catholic. That’s great! A fellow ‘Papist’ running the RNC!
Is Steele the new RNC Chairman? I can’t find anything on it.
He’s more black than Obammy.
Nice short acceptance speech by Steele. He will not cede any area of our country and will work to rebuild the Republican party.
As we just witnessed.
I’ve supported Steele for this position from the beginning. I couldn’t be happier!
Your #24—I agree—I am cautiously optimistic. Don’t know how he will be treated by the MSM. We learned from Clarence Thomas that ideology trumps race with them. For now, he has my full support.
Michael Steele is IFFY on 2nd amendment/GUN rights...
Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons or any gun that they want?
Michael Steele: Well, I mean you draw the line. I mean, what do you need an assault weapon for? I mean, if going hunting, I think that’s a little overkill or whatever, but the reality of it is, I think it’s important for a society, a community to draw the lines as we’ve drawn in a number of other constitutional areas, but I don’t think that that means that you go to a total ban for those who want to use guns for skeet shooting and hobbying and hunting and things like that.
Steele is better than Duncan, but still bears watching.
Q: Your views on gun control?
A: My views are pretty much in line with the governor's. I grew up under some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. You can have all the gun control laws in the country, but if you don't enforce them, people are going to find a way to protect themselves. We need to recognize that bad people are doing bad things with these weapons. It's not the law-abiding citizens, it's not the person who uses it as a hobby.

A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what's the point of passing gun laws if we're not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that's where you need to start. We've got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it's about how we enforce the law.

Yes, he is now.
