NEW YORK -- Most Republican governors have broken with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for passage of President Barack Obama's economic aid plan that would send billions to states for education, public works and health care.
Their state treasuries drained by the financial crisis, governors would welcome the money from Capitol Hill, where GOP lawmakers are more skeptical of Obama's spending priorities.

There are huge deficits and they cannot run the states. Regardless this is nothing more than a pork fest. The governors are not voting. And their constituents are not in favor of it. It needs to be challenged and everything deemed “unstimulating” removed.
States receive federal money every year so I guess you could say every governor has had his/her hand out every year. I guess there is no one to vote for.
The best we can do is pound the GOP Senators with emails, faxes and phone calls. This has to be STOPPED!!
They don’t need a “stimulus.” They need to stop “spreading the wealth” to illegal aliens. So it costs them a few votes, IT’S RIGHT FOR AMERICA!
One important thing to do...
If you live in a state with a Democrat governor, make sure you contact them too. One thing that will turn the tide our way is to achieve bipartisinism among the states governors. We’ve robbed 0bama of an early success...one he wanted badly. If we can achieve it this early, we will be getting closer to the catbird seat.
What the GOP should do is tell Obama they will support it IF Obama changes the plan to make all of the spending contained in the bill into a grant to the states. Then the states can do what they want with it, and every state will get its share. They might even decide to use it to give a tax cut. And the GOP governors would be on board.
Not only that, but if the Dems said NO, then they would be the bad guys. How do you defend the pork laden bill they wrote? Impossible. But turn it into a grant to the states and you don’t need to defend it. Only the state governments would need to defend it.
A complete and utter collapse of the American government.
If any of you Neo-Confederates were looking for the right time to bail, I doubt these clowns could do much to stop you now.

Alaska’s Sarah Palin supports the transportation component of the package. I can find no recorded position for Arizona’s new Republican Governor Jan Brewer, but the state assumes enactment of the stimulus package to help close a budget shortfall. Hawaii’s Linda Lingle is anticipating passage as well. Jim Gibbons is characterized in several places as a supporter, though I don’t see a formal statement. Rhode Island’s Don Carcieri ‘has great ways to spend it.’ Mike Rounds (SD) and Jon Huntsman (UT) sound like backers. Tim Pawlenty (MN) says he wouldn’t refuse the money, and John Hoeven (SD) sounds like has plans for the cash, too.
She supports the Infrastructure part of the stimulus package, already on record last week saying that. She wants no part of the rest of it
I’m gonna play doors music non stop until a real conservative is in the whitehouse.
That sounds reasonable, but highly unlikely. It’s worth a try.

There is NO REASON for Republican Governors to lobby the House Republicans...it was going to pass, so why care who votes for it. That’s also virtually the case in the Senate (although a theoretical fillibuster could stop it, but good luck).
So what’s the point...and DO THEY HAVE ANY CLUE as to how much damage they cause the Republican Party by helping the Democrats separate the Republican politicians from their base.
Perhaps the Dems are right when they say that the Republican Party is out of touch...since they obviously are with these governors.

Bear in mind that the RATs have taken many, many projects that would otherwise receive funding under traditional budget processes and wrapped them into this monstrosity (or so I've heard). After all, part of the scheme to get the 40 years of liberal goodies is to put in essentials, making a no vote a bad risk.
Under those circumstances, it makes sense for ANY governor to seek some clarity for the important stuff. Judge not on the dialog but on what is actually being sought. Trying to protect a pipeline project that is vital not only to Alaska's economy but also the nation is a far cry from Ahnold looking for money to prop up Kalifornia's drunken-sailor spending binge.
Now, if Sarah uses language like Alaska's "fair share", shame on her. But I don't expect that to be the case.
We can’t. The so-called “two parties” (two sides of the same coin) have so maneuvered things that government is no more “of the people”. They can do what they want, whatever benefits them financially, and we can’t do a thing about it. Because too many people in America (I can’t call them Americans, some of them literally aren’t) want just this, hand-outs and bailouts and benefits and entitlements from here to eternity. What I’m wondering is just when the tipping point will be that there aren’t enough producers to tote this load (if it hasn’t already tipped).

What I don't understand is that the concept of cash flow is simple. Either you have it or you don't. If you don't have $1,000 to go on vacation, you don't go on vacation. Not so with an endless tax-based system. If the government doesn't have it, they pick pocket people who are already hurting, raise another tax somewhere, find something new to tax. Create another fine.

Check your local newspapers...I live in a small town of about 24,000 and they printed the whole list of pork projects the other day.
The scarey thing is that It had Priorty 1 through Priority 4...they are planning for even more levels of pork.
Governors? They were once the pride of the GOP with innovative and effective policies, incubators of democracy. Now they are beggars at the trough because they REFUSE to make tough decisions of spending cuts.
The leaders of the Party now will be Congressman...things don’t always stay the same, things change. Governors are more like local managers of the all you can eat slough and trough at the mall now.
If there is just one that will lead, that is a person who can rise to great things....alas your beggars instead.
So she is in favor of 4% of the bill and is willing to support the other 96% monstrosity?

Vote them out. They should be cutting their budgets and workforce. They need to cancel unfilled positions many state and local governments purposely overstate the number of positions just to make budget requests bigger. We have to live within our means what don’t these bureaucrats not understand? We need to take Uncle Sam’s credit card away from them and throw it into a furnace and burn it. If we have any luck many of them will dive in after it and save us the unsavory business of dealing with them again.
They need to stop spending and growing government period. Government needs to be trimmed down to a core that can be sustained with little growth. It is time for them to learn where the line is.
