NEW ORLEANS -- Former Klansman David Duke, who ran for governor of Louisiana, is blasting the newly appointed chairman of the Republican Party as a "black racist."
In a lengthy process on Friday, GOP leaders voted former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele into the party's leadership post.
Steele is the first African-American to hold that position.
Duke described those who supported the move as "traitorous," and cited Steele's positions on gun control, affirmative action and the death penalty in a sometimes rambling condemnation posted on his personal Web site.
"I think the insanity of nominating 'Mr. Amnesty' John McCain and now this black racist will lead to insurgency in the Republican ranks," Duke said.
He further referred to Steele as "Obama Jr." and a "servile dog of Israel."
While he has been largely off the mainstream political radar for years and no longer lives in Louisiana, Duke is still politically active, speaking largely to a fractional segment of the spectrum.
He said he was interviewed this weekend by the Washington Post, though he was not mentioned in any published items through the weekend.
Well if David Duke hates him, then he is good..
HAAAA....they are REALLY scared.....
Wouldn’t it be nice if the world had fewer David Dukes?
If this “white racist” opposes him, that’s all the more reason to support him.
oh, thought they were talking about Byrd
WaPo interviewed him??? If they did, there is no way they will print what he said. Duke does not approve of the new RNC Chair...what a give to the GOP.
Leftists do that - a lot.
All the right people dislike him. I’d say thats a vote in his favor.
Duke hates Steele... I just became a bigger Steele fan.. of course, who cares what David Duke thinks.. I think a line cook at McDonald’s is more relevant in the real world..
Say good night, David.
**I think the insanity of nominating ‘Mr. Amnesty’ John McCain **
UNfortunately, mr. duke was correct on this one point...
“Even a Blind Squirrel can find a nut, Once in a while”
So what was the point of the person writing the story and of the agency publishing the story ...
Does Duke even call himself a Republican? I thought he ran under some off-beat third party banner these days.
Dear David Duke,
STFU!
Sincerely,
Gigster
Does anybody care?
Duke sure knows how to soil a number of subjects with one statement.
Why even give this nut any more publicity than he deserves by posting this?
David Duke was a Democrat, just like the Rev. Phelps.
David Duke doesn’t sound that much different from the ACORN/MoveOn/Code Pink crowd at times.
When I read gun control my 2nd Amendment alarm went off. Does anyone know Steele’s position?
This sure means we have the right guy!
David Duke, the nose job Nazi, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Arab League. Duke should hang out with Chomsky and Soros. They all have a lot in common.
“new rnc chairman is black racist”
all republicans, no matter what race, are racists. all democrats, no matter what race (almost all white) are pure, clean, saintly, without sin.
repeat: all democrats are pure, saintly and sinless, all republicans are racists.
repeat: all democrats are pure, saintly and sinless, all republicans are racists.
repeat: all democrats are pure, saintly and sinless, all republicans are racists.
repeat: all democrats.....(ad nauseum)
IMHO
Some one like Tom DeLay would be.
This almost comes off as satire it is so stupid sounding.
Right! David Dukes is someone who has the ear of America. In his dreams.
Exactly! The problem is, he actually advances the premise that anyone who stands up against the illegal alien invasion of our nation, is a racist. He is therefore hurting his cause and the cause of non-racist citizens without knowing it. Dumb s—t!
I have heard Steele interviewed several times, and I think that he is unusually intelligent and admirable. We should be proud to have him affiliated with the Republican Party, and we should be overjoyed to have him as chairman.
Shouldn’t David Duke be sucking up to Cindy Sheehan or something?
“David Duke, the nose job Nazi, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Arab League. Duke should hang out with Chomsky and Soros. They all have a lot in common.”
True, a helluva lot more in common with far leftists than mainstream conservatives.
I believe he has been sympathetic to ‘reasoned’ assault weapon legislation. As if...
Pandora’s box creaks...
Not good. Could have been a lot worse.
My opinion of the RNC chair, is that he either supports Conservative candidates or he doesn’t. And if he supports them, good Conservatives will invariably be ushered in with his efforts.
While I want folks that get Conservatism across the board in elected offices, I’m not convinced that Steele will be anything but a great asset as the RNC head.
We shall see.
I’ve always assumed that mr duke was a plant to make racists look stupider. I mean he does a great job
Should people have access to buy assault weapons?
A: "Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill."
And I would have thought that he would have complained more about Steele being a Catholic.
amen to that
Wouldn't be much of a Democrat party left...
Steele thinks the 2nd Amendment is about hunting.
I could care less about David Duke, but I do care about the new chairman’s positions regarding gun control, affirmative action, and the death penalty. Can anyone elaborate on Steele’ positions on these issues?
Evidently he was interviewed, and they tried to corner him on Limbaugh. Steele incorporated the First Amendment into his reply, deflecting the attempt to pigeon hole him. He thinks well on his feet, and he will do right by us in this position. That’s my take on it.
He calls himself what ever is expedient. He has run as a Democrat; as a Republican, and as a populist.
AFAIK, everytime he has run as a Republican, the party has supported and endorsed the other Republican(s) in the race against him.
He can register and call himself what ever he wants, but that doesn’t mean he is claimed by the various parties.
Not really. Davy and Cynthia McKinney should hook-up, they can make some really hot anti-Semite love together.
I totally agree!
The RATs also seem to miss the point that no Republican will be caught dead endorsing former KKK leader Duke, whereas RATs have no problem endorsing former KKK Klegal Byrd every time he runs for office.
Seems "Republican" David Duke is none too fond of the GOP these days. Someone needs to forward this to the RATs who constantly hit us over the with Duke. They must be all warm and fuzzy inside knowing they share the same feelings about the chairman of the RNC that Duke does.
I agree that Steele was not my first choice or even my second, but his election IS a positive change for the GOP. Any outcome that did not result in Mike Duncan being reelected or Saul Anuzis (who has been an utter failure as Michigan GOP Chairman given the fact the RATs have run the state in the ground and he can't get any mileage out of that) is good for the party. I feel more optimistic going into 2010 and 2014 with Steele at the helm. His initial comments saying "bipartisanship is overrated" and hailing every Republican voting down Obama's stimulus are welcome, as are his plans to go toe-to-toe with Obama and work to repeal McCain-Feingold and that his biggest priority right now is to take back NY's 20th District.
Yes Steele is too cozy with the status quo and has unfortunately backed RINOs in the past, but the freepers claiming that Steele was the most liberal person the GOP could have chosen or that Steele is a "moderate" who is pro-abortion and anti-gun are nuts. Steele was a bit nuanced on these issues when ran for the U.S. Senate in ultra-RAT Maryland, but he is a solid conservative.
And no, Steele is not an "affirmative action" pick because Steele is well qualified for the job and has a record of leadership. Affirmation Action means someone gets the job over more qualified applicants because of their skin color, and while this was certainly true of the last RNC Chariman (Mel Martinez, who is a mediocre Bush-butt kisser who was in over his head as both Senator and RNC Chairman), is it not true of Steele -- who worked his way up through the party and has a great record. I'm sure the Dems will spin this as Steel being chosen so the GOP could have a black guy go up against another black guy. It's unfortunate it took this long for the GOP to name a black chairman (the GOP should have made history as the first party with a black chairman as they have made history in most other appointed posts), and yes the bad timing makes it look like desperation on the GOP's part -- but it's overdue and Steele was a top choice for the job long before Obama even announced for President.
Don’t loose sight of Steele’s job here. He won’t be voting on one piece of legislation. What folks are trying to infer is that Steele will put a litmus test on Conservative candidates and not support them if they are for gun rights, the death penalty, and oppose affirmative action. He isn’t going to do that.
He will be supporting Conservative candidates across this nation, and many of them will be more solid than he on those issues. He is going to be and administrator, not a gatekeeper.
The funny thing is, a Democrat wouldn’t have the slightest idea what you were talking about, if they read your comment. And yet, they voted for Obama for no other reason that he was black, and not a White Republican.
I am not sold on him although I do not dislike Mr. Steele. I cannot recall the exact interview he gave but IMHO he came off somewhere in the squishy middle. Let’s hope he is more conservative than that impression but I will wait to see what he does.
Well, where does Steele stand on GUN CONTROL?
Where does Steele stand on AFFIRMATIVE ACTION?
Where does Steele stand on the DEATH PENALTY?
I think you will find that he is
FOR more GUN CONTROL
FOR AFFIRMATIVE ACTION
AGAINST the DEATH PENALTY.
It is unfortunate that the GOP is choosing SKIN COLOR
OVER conservative ideology.
It's too bad this Duke guy is not expressing himself well. In other words Steele is another RHINO. He's like Powell. Steele is like J.C. Watts. The GOP has earned the label of being the “STUPID PARTY”.
McPain was another RHINO and so is Steele.
He is right about both but how he expresses himself undoes the truth he is saying. The GOP is using RACE to further RHINO ideology. It’s insanity.
