Many Of Nation's Green Leaders From Bay Area [Socialist Elites At Work]

Many of nation's green leaders from Bay Area

Sunday, February 1, 2009

A Bay Area jeansmaker clothed miners in the dusty Sierra Nevada gold fields, creating what would become a fashion staple around the globe.

Nearly a century later, two Stanford graduates birthed the high-tech age in a Palo Alto garage.

Today, Bay Area entrepreneurs, scientists and policymakers hope to join the vanguard of another revolution - one that aims to reinvent the way people use water, power their cars, build their houses and live their lives.

President Obama has promised sweeping changes to the nation's energy grid, auto emission standards and oil import policies in an effort to reverse the damage of climate change, retool the U.S. economy and wean the nation from foreign fossil fuels.

These problems are inherently global and will require the assistance of governments and experts around the planet. Even then, they might not be solved for decades - if ever.

But the Bay Area and California likely will figure prominently in the president's move to harness wind power, cap carbon dioxide emissions and understand the economic and ecological impacts of climate change on our society.

These 10 people are among the brightest lights in their respective fields - from solar energy to venture capital to water policy to "smart" growth.

They might not become household names, but their research, policy papers and startups could shape the way many households run in the years to come.

Being recognized by your peers as a “green leader” is much like being recognized for an Oscar, Emmy, etc.

Nobdy really cares other than the like-minded people giving you the award.

Ya sure, policy papers have always improved our standard of living and choices in the marketplace... /s

RE: The examples the article gave of Levi's jeans, HP, and Apple -- Those are products I can CHOOSE to include in my life. "Policy papers" add nothing but mandatory rules and regulations that diminish and constrict my life.

And the Bay Area was ground zero for the Berkeley so-called free speech movement. It was ground zero for the hippies of the ‘60s.

In recent years, Frisco has been ground zero for a host of liberal causes. They are ground zero for the homosexual rights movement, and same-sex marriage. They have an elected county supervisor who loathes the military. He thinks that we don’t need a military; that local police will defend us if America is ever attacked again. They have pursued very liberal policies to be “compassionate” towards the homeless, and have found that they are not solving their homeless problem with their liberal ideology.

And they even adopted a form of universal health care within San Francisco, with very mixed results. Liberal ideology collides with the real world sometimes, providing the liberals with unexpected results.

Well they can’t blame the man in the White House for their problems anymore.

San Francisco writer Sherry Boschert is an evangelist for the electric car and its cousin, the plug-in hybrid. Boschert started driving the first wave of electric cars in 2002, only to see automakers recall and destroy most of the vehicles. Then came the plug-in hybrid, which by some estimates gets more than 100 miles per gallon.

A HUNDRED mpg...good weed.

They must be smoking weed, they should compute the car's energy performance by BTU or KW/mile, taking into account BOTH the gasoline AND electricity used.

I bet the performance isn't that great then.

Going green is a great idea if you don't need to worry about the cost. Has anyone checked out the cost of a simple solar water heating system? For those who get plenty of sunlight, here the KSDB-120-ST Drainback Solar Water Heating System system, not counting installation, for $5,356.77 :

Does it pay back it’s purchase price before falling apart?

Good question. I had a water heater that had a dip tube made from pvc. The pvc broke apart in five years. It cost $800 to have a new natural gas water heater installed. I wonder what part on this system will malfunction and cause a call to King Solar?

Look at the diagram and part number 13. It is a Taco 009-BF5 pump. To replace that pump today will cost $232.50. Five years from now, you may not be able to find that pump at $232.50. And, the technician that tells you that the pump (that leaked hot water all over your utlility room) needs replacement may charge you plenty for the diagnosis and the pump installation. And, there is also the cost for the new utility room floor from the water damage.

I hope all these green weenies get stuck with huge maintenance bills for their pie in the sky solar systems. As for me, those $800 bills for a water heater are enough to bend me over the economic barrel.
