GOP senator says stimulus should focus on tax cuts [DeMint vs. Bawney Fwank]
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2009-02-01 | Jared Allen

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) on Sunday said lawmakers should pass a package of tax cuts to stimulate the economy, objecting to Democratic spending proposals and repeating a position of House Republicans.

The conservative senator stated his position on ABC News’ This Week while seated across from House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (Mass.), who strongly backed the $819 billion package that passed this week without a single GOP vote.

Many of DeMint’s Senate Republican colleagues are emphasizing the need to come up with a more effective combination of tax cuts and spending, and not cut all spending proposal.

“I think all of us support the fact that we need to do something,” DeMint said. “And all of us believe that the way to move our economy forward and protect jobs is to infuse more money so that consumers have more to spend, businesses have more to invest, buy capital equipment.”

“But there are two ways to do that,” DeMint continued. “One is for the government to take it out of the private sector through taxes and then decide where it's going to go through political manipulation, as they've done in the House. The other is just to leave more money in the private sector for consumers to spend and businesses to invest.”

“I never saw a tax cut fix a bridge. I never saw a tax cut give us more public transportation. The fact is, we need a mix,” Frank said.

I never saw a tax cut give us a community organizer. Wait...that might be a good thing! LOL.

And a purely rhetorical question....what the h3ll do bridges and public transportation have to do with stimulating the economy and putting people to work?

Or for that matter, giving checks to illegal aliens with "proper" ID cards?

Sounds like something a troll would do.

Mr. Frank seems to be the great philospher of the stimulus bill, when in fact, his policies kicked off the subprime mess that got us here.

If you are implying I’m a troll, I’m not, but I think the owner of Frank’s gay brothel could be.

Nah. I was referring to the "random, wanton, anonymous sex under bridges by consenting males" part, but I apologize for the confusion.

Plus, the questions need to be asked of the Google CEO, are you increasing your spending to stimulate your own economy, are you hiring more ppl, OR youre cuting and firing?

You think government should be increasing its spending, so why dont google?

I'm with DeMint! I say let's cut $819 billion is useless fed programs and then add $819 billion in permanent personal, small biz, and corporate tax cuts.

Solution are so simple but the whore on The Hill want control of all the corners and demand their johns (us) to hand out big tips.

There! I just did a $1.5 trillion on the books real stimulus package!

You want to focus on tax cuts? Then go all the way and implement the Gohmert Plan for a two month holiday on all federal income and payroll taxes: Gohmert Plan
