[Vermont] GOP Governor Bucks Party to Back Obama's Stimulus
ABC ^ | 2/2/09 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 02/02/2009 10:06:16 AM PST by freespirited

President Obama welcomed the rare Republican supporter of his economic stimulus bill today when Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas arrived in the capital to lobby GOP senators to vote for it.

The Senate Republicans are prepared to fight the current package.Douglas, who is vice chairman of the National Governors Association, is bucking his party over Obama's massive economic bailout plan.

In a brief photo op with Douglas, Obama said, "What we can't do is let very modest differences get in the way of the overall package moving forward quickly."

Douglas sat next to Obama in the Oval Office and said, "If I were writing it, it might look at little different. But the essence of a recovery package is essential to get the nation's economy moving."

Debate on the Senate version of the bill, which could total $900 billion, is scheduled to begin this evening, and Obama said he believes that with changes, the bill will receive significant Republican support.

To sweeten the deal, Obama said that he would set up a board to keep track of how the stimulus money is spent.

"One of the things we're going to do is put together an independent board on the recovery package that actually looks at these programs and the money before it goes out the door," the president told NBC News Sunday during a sitdown before the Super Bowl. His remarks were released today.

Obama wouldn't comment on reports that his administration is considering creating a bank to buy up the toxic debts that are weighing down banks' balance sheets.

Citizen’s grand juries

We need volunteers to coordinate and form citizen’s grand juries all over the country. Evidence of Barry Soetoro-Barack Obama’s ineligibility/illegitimacy for presidency will be presented to those Citizen’s Grand Juries for their decision on indictment or presentment. If you want to coordinate National or state or local effort in this matter, please e-mail me at dr_taitz@yahoo.com

Knock off the personal attacks. You can debate the issue but don’t make it personal. We expect some sort of civility here.

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/02/sen-mcconnell-proposes-more-big-government-to-fix-big-government-debacle/
Over the weekend, you see, Sen. McConnell gave the GOP radio address. The subject was the “stimulus.” Generational Theft Act, Crap Sandwich Supreme, Porkulus, Spendulus, Debt Stimulus Plan. Pick your name. It’s all B.S. And Americans know it. Senate debate begins today at 2pm Eastern. On the heels of the House Republicans’ unanimous rejection of the Obama/Democrats’ Big Government package and shifting public opinion against the plan, you might think the Senate GOP minority leader would get a clue: Big Government = Bad Idea. But nooooo. Sen. McConnell knows how to extinguish any fledgling flame of enthusiasm among grass-roots activists who were starting to think the Republican Party was returning to its fiscal conservative principles. Fuhgeddaboudit, people. Sen. McConnell’s grand idea to “fix” the stimulus is to create new, government-backed mortgages.
I did not lie about you, WOSG, and MCConnell hasn't learned anything: http://michellemalkin.com/2009/01/08/flashback-ucla-study-on-fdrs-growth-stifling-policies/
Roosevelt’s role in lifting the nation out of the Great Depression has been so revered that Time magazine readers cited it in 1999 when naming him the 20th century’s second-most influential figure. “This is exciting and valuable research,” said Robert E. Lucas Jr., the 1995 Nobel Laureate in economics, and the John Dewey Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. “The prevention and cure of depressions is a central mission of macroeconomics, and if we can’t understand what happened in the 1930s, how can we be sure it won’t happen again?” …”The fact that the Depression dragged on for years convinced generations of economists and policy-makers that capitalism could not be trusted to recover from depressions and that significant government intervention was required to achieve good outcomes,” Cole said. “Ironically, our work shows that the recovery would have been very rapid had the government not intervened.”

I had posted a comment of support-in-theory, (see the comment this is linked to...) But it was scrubbed. I guess supportive comments are attacks too. Unfortunately, it had all of the URLs I know of for places that are of like mind (approx. 8 places). Since I was using my phone at the time, I don't have that list... If you're interested or it would help, FreeManN, I'll try to rebuild the list...

Neither ones I pulled, 25 or 26 where to FreemanN. They where both personal attacks on another member. Knock it off.

Vermonts budget consists of 70% federal funds. WIthout them all the social programs in Vermont would go BUST.

GOOD.

Jim, you are wrong on this one, even though your 2009 re-election may depend on the passage of this bogus pork barrel stimulus bill.

Doesn't work, phone's browser locks when I try to use it.
The browser doesn't recognize the spell check button next to the review or post.oddly enough, the only one it does recognize is the post button.
On other brand of blog, its different. On typepad nothing works, so I guess I should be happy...
